I would be interested to hear from anyone who has information on this family. They were living in Devon, England in 1887. The husband Albert Edward May was married to ? Gundry. He was a medical doctor.

His wife was Mary Augustus Gundry, only dau of Dr John Seagar Gundry. I have considerable material on his ancestry and would like to know about her descendants. He kept a diary on the voyage of the STEADFAST to N.Z. in 1851 which was published privately by the family.

I am a descendant of Samuel Gundry who came to New Zealand 1851 with his brother Dr.John Seager Gundry. John and his wife returned to England on learning of her pregency. He rented out a cottage in Lyttelton until 1870 so he always thought maybe they would return. this cottage came on the market 3years ago so we ahve purchased it and rent it out as holiday accommodation. You can view it on holidayhomes.co.nz put in Lyttelton and it is called Isaly cottage. One of the Day girls gave to the Christchurch library Dr Gundry's diary which have since been printed. I have been searching for ages for the
Day family. Would love to hear from you: jobrengood2001@yahoo.co.nz

Hi. I am a direct descendent of John and Samuel's brother, George. He's my great-great-grandfather. I now live near Devizes, where they were all born. I have met up with Ross Hannah, from NZ but now living over here, who is descended from either Samuel or another brother, William - can't recall which. If you're still out there, love to hear from you! Catherine

Hi Christine. I don't know, but here's what little I have. Albert Edward May was a doctor who married Mary Augusta (born after 1859), the only child of Dr John Seager Gundry. I'm told they had 4 children, one being Daisy, but I'm afraid I haven't delved any further. Maybe, just maybe, Albert and George William were brothers?? If you find any more, let me know, and I'll do likewise. All best. Catherine

Hello

Nice to get replies to message boards even a couple of years later!!
I may not be much help as my search for teh May family involves the daughter of my 4x Great Uncle, Dr.John Seager Gundry whose daughter, Mary Augusta born 1859 in Wells, Somerset, married Albert Edward May in Honiton, Devon in 1879. Albert was a doctor as well. They had four children: Daisy May, Ethel,Albert John, Rose.
Dr.John Gundry came to N.Z with his wife Isabella in 1851 along with my 3x Great Grandfather, Sam Gundry and his family. John and Isabella returned to England to have their daughter - they were both getting on by then as shr was born 1824 and he 1816. Quite old for the times. We ahve purchased a house that belonged to Dr. john here in N.Z which we rent out as holiday accommodation. It is called Islay cottage and you can view it on www.holidayhomes.co.nz. It is situated in Lyttelton, Christchurch.
Other than this I have been unable to trace any of the May family. Daisy May never married and lived in Kent. She sent over to the Christchurch museum Dr.John Gundry's diaries which ahve been put into print.
Sorry I am of no further help.
Brenda
