Dear Debbie , I just found out MAY is the maiden name of my greatgrand mother , Sarah E. Martin . She married E.R.Martin in
Macon Co,
Alabama , on April 29, 1860..... We thought she was a
Miller , and have looked for
Millers ,,,, ooOOOOPPPPPSSSS , looking down the wrong road !!! Ok , now we have the Marriage lic, and we know she was a MAY . Her father was S.B May . We also know she got married in David S. Martins house . We know that David S. And Nancy Martin , moved to
Barbour County ,
Al, and E.R> and Sarah E. moved with them . They lived together in 1870 census , and by 1880 David Martin was dead and E.R. and Sarah had bought a farm in Mt Andrew , in
Barbour Co. They had their only child in 1881 , named him after his father Edward Rufus, E.R. killed his neighbor P.B. Patterson in 1883 and in 1884 was sentanced to 20 yrs in prison . He filed an appeal with the
Alabama Supreme
Court , in 1884 and the conviction stood . He was pardoned about 10 yrs later and I found records where he was back in
Barbour Co , in 1895 , he sold land to Kate
Britt . In the meantime , his wife Sarah E. had taken his son and gone to
Louisiana . That son was my grandfather . We never knew any of this , untill we started searching , to find what happened to him . We still don't know where he is buried , and hope by the help of good people like you , we will finally find him . Every link , gets us closer . Help me if you can . Now that I know Sarah was a May , I can look for her family . Thank you for listening to my ramblin story . Leta Martin
