Debbie,
I have Joseph May and Mary (Polly) Farley
married in Pike Co., Ky. 3-13-1851, File #
1176. The 1860 Pike County census shows them
with 4 children, Sarah E. 8, Amy 6, L.T. 5,
and Henry 2 years old. I can not find them in
Pike County after 1860, also cannot find marriage
for Sarah E. Most of this clan of May's lived
in the Pond Creek area of the county, which is
across the river from Mingo County, Wv., they could
have married there and I do not have records
for Wv.
Joseph May, according to my data, was the son of
William (Billy) May and Susannah (?). Never
been able to find last name for Susannah. William
(Billy) May was the son of James May, the immigrant ancestor,
and Elizabeth King May.

Dear Debbie , I just found out MAY is the maiden name of my greatgrand mother , Sarah E. Martin . She married E.R.Martin in Macon Co, Alabama , on April 29, 1860..... We thought she was a Miller , and have looked for Millers ,,,, ooOOOOPPPPPSSSS , looking down the wrong road !!! Ok , now we have the Marriage lic, and we know she was a MAY . Her father was S.B May . We also know she got married in David S. Martins house . We know that David S. And Nancy Martin , moved to Barbour County , Al, and E.R> and Sarah E. moved with them . They lived together in 1870 census , and by 1880 David Martin was dead and E.R. and Sarah had bought a farm in Mt Andrew , in Barbour Co. They had their only child in 1881 , named him after his father Edward Rufus, E.R. killed his neighbor P.B. Patterson in 1883 and in 1884 was sentanced to 20 yrs in prison . He filed an appeal with the Alabama Supreme Court , in 1884 and the conviction stood . He was pardoned about 10 yrs later and I found records where he was back in Barbour Co , in 1895 , he sold land to Kate Britt . In the meantime , his wife Sarah E. had taken his son and gone to Louisiana . That son was my grandfather . We never knew any of this , untill we started searching , to find what happened to him . We still don't know where he is buried , and hope by the help of good people like you , we will finally find him . Every link , gets us closer . Help me if you can . Now that I know Sarah was a May , I can look for her family . Thank you for listening to my ramblin story . Leta Martin Terrell

hello Debbie, I am doing research for a friend and, therefore, not related but do have info on your May family.
Joseph May, b. abt, 1835 Va. Mary Farley is still a mystery.
they one son named Lawyer T. May, b, 23 feb 1856, Pike Co.
Lawyer married Lexettie Spears, 17 June 1876 in Lawrence County, Ohio. I have four children listed for them: Sarah Belle May, b. June 1877 Ky. Wm H.May, b. 20 May in Wayne Co. W. Va. Kate May, no dates. Mary C. May, b 1880. Lexettie married Wm. Hensley after the death of Lawyer. That is all the current info I have found to date. Good luck.
