Looking for decendants and relatives of Sharlotte and or Charlotte Elizabeth Marter, Mader, Mawder, Martin born 1832 Bayern Bavaria, immigrated with her family to America in 1836, father Micheal and mother Margretha (Margaret), and brother Valentine.

The family would be noted as living in townships of Cherry and Forks, in Sullivan County, PA, and would move to Mitchell County, KS by 1870.


Glen Elder, KS 1902

"Mrs Scharlottie Wentz: Died, at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Wm Little in Glen Elder, on Saturday June 28, Mrs Scharlottie Wentz, aged 69 years, 9 months, and 20 days. Mrs. Wentz was born in Germany, Sept. 8, 1832 and came to the United States in 1836 locating in Pennsylvania. In 1870 she moved to Kansas and afterward to Oklahoma and Wisconsin, coming back to Mitchell County Kansas in 1898. The funeral services were conducted at the house by Rev. Helmick, of the M. E. church and the remains laid to rest in the Granite Creek cemetery. She leaves nine children to mourn her departure, 4 of whom live in Kansas, three in Nebraska and two in Wisconsin. The bereaved family have the sympathy of this community in the loss of their aged mother." Scharlottie Wentz was affectionately called "Grandma Betty" by John Conrad Wentz family.

Cawker City Journal December 7, 1882

"Conrad Wentz, died at his residence on Granite Creek, three miles east of Cawker City, Nov. 28, 1882, aged 63 years, five months and 24 days. He leaves a wife and eleven children, five of the children are at home with the mother in needy circumstances. He came from Reinpfalz, Bayern, Germany to Pennsylvania in 1848 where he was married to Charlotte Mader, Jan 1, 1850. He located at this place with the rest of the Pennsylvania colony Oct. 15, 1870. He was greatly afflicted for many years with gravel, and was once operated upon by Dr. D. C. Everson and two other physicians. He was a Presbyterian. This last sickness, with a complication of diseases creating intense suffering, he bore with christian fortitude and submission. One of simple, earnest faith has gone to rest. May the blessing of God rest upon the bereaved family."

The Wentz family of Bayern, Bavaria, Germany, migrated across Europe, first to Holland and then to England, coming to America in 1848, settling in Pennsylvania.

The transcription of Register of the German Lutheran and Reformed Congregation at Cherry Township, Lycoming Co., PA, Old Lutheran Church Records translated from German to English, Peace Church and Old Zion Church, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania, 1838 - 1878, records the marriage of Conrath (Conrad) Wentz with Scharlotte Mader on January 1, 1850. Further baptismal records indicates Charlotte Mader, was the daughter of Margretha (Margaret) Mader, wife of Michael Mader. A baptismal record of a son of Conrath (Conrad) (Wens)Wentz and his wife Scharlotte, received the name of Adam Heinrich Wentz, born Sept 22, 1852, baptised Oct 23, 1852. The baptismal sponsors were Michael Mader and his wife Margretha (Margaret) Mader, the grandparents of the child Adam Heinrich (Henry) Wentz.

Scharlotte Mader Wentz' mother, Margretha (Margaret) Mader, appears to be buried in the Peace Cemetery, Cherry Township, PA , noted by the last name of Mawder, described as, Row, Stone, Surname, First Name, Born, Died, Also on the Stone, R4, S4, Mawder, Margaret, born unknown, died May 9, 1867, Wife of Michael Mawder. The 1860 Federal Census, the (Wems)Wentz family, Conrad, age 41, and Charlotte, age 31, has moved seven miles down the road to the township of Forks, Sullivan Co., PA, further denoted as the postal town of Eldredsville. Conrad (Wems)Wentz, occupation farmer, noted his real estate value at $400 and personal estate value at $170. During the ten year period 1850 to 1860, three Wentz children would be born, Adam Henry(Heinrich) Wentz, age 7, born Sept 22, 1852, baptised October 23, 1852, Sullivan Co., PA, Mary Wentz, age 4, born December 15, 1856, Schuylkill Co., PA,, and Caroline Wentz, age 1, born January 1859. Mary Wentz Anderson, noted in her 1951 death certificate, as being born in Schuylkill County, PA, not Sullivan County, PA, which is some 93 miles south of Forks, Sullivan County, PA. The Wentz family surname has also been noted in the Palatine migration across Europe. Conrad Wentz died in 1882 as a Presbyterian and his wife Charlotte died in 1902 as a Methodist.

In the June 1870 Federal Census, the (Wince)Wentz family is still residing in the township of Forks, Sullivan Co., PA, however, their postal town of Eldredsville in 1860, has now been moved five miles to the south in Millview. Conrad (Wince)Wentz, occupation farmer, noted his real estate value had increased $600 in ten years to $1000 and his personal estate, was now valued at $300. During the ten year period 1860 to 1870, five more Wentz children would be born. The 1870 Wentz household was noted as Conrad (Wince)Wentz, age 51, Charlotte Wentz, age 38, Adam H. (Henry or Heinrich) Wentz, age 17, Caroline, age 13, Hannah E. Wentz, age 11, Catherine Wentz, age 8, Jacob A. Wentz, age 5, Charlotte L. Wentz, age 3, and Charles D.(David) Wentz, age 1.

Conrad Wentz, age 44, occupation farmer, from Germany, was listed in the July 1863, Consolidated Draft Registry, Forks, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania. The family moved from the census township of Forks, Sullivan County, Pennsylvania to Kansas in October 1870, homesteading in Mitchell County. 1920 Federal Census, daughter Mary Repke(Rupeka,Rupke) Bauer Thurs Anderson and brother Jacob Wentz, would indicate their father's birthplace was Friesland and mother's birthplace was Bavaria.

Adam Henry or Heinrich Wentz, born Sept 22, 1852,(Lycoming County)Sulllivan County, PA, is lost to time after the 1870 Federal Census, Forks, Sullivan County, PA. His name has never appeared in any Kansas census or death records and it is unclear if he made the move with the Wentz family to Kansas.

Conrad Wentz died intestate November 28, 1882, leaving a widow, and eleven children.

Charlotte Wentz has also been noted as Charlotte Walter, mother of the bride, at the marriage of her daughter Caroline "Carrie" Wentz Hohner to August Frederick Stumme in KS about 1882. Charlotte Wentz remarried, age 52, to Gustav Ernst Kraemer, age 29, Feb 13, 1885, at the Presbyterian Parsonage in Beloit, KS.

The probate of the estate of Conrad Wentz dated March 1885 petitioned the court for allotment of the estate of Conrad Wentz, deceased, to his widow
