The Lundberg's, Johnson's, Johanson's, Engstrom's and Abergs who came to the US between the last years of the 1800's up to the 1930's settled in the Sacramento Valley, did come down through Canada, OR.

I believe Karl Oscar was my father's uncle.

They did, for the most part, come from a village, that is now Nordmaling, a place that has gone through some changes.

They were in lumber, fishing, engineering.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordmaling_Municipality

Cousin Folke Engstrom received some high award from Norway for picking off Nazi's with the Norwegian ski patrol in WWII. He worked for Volvo for some time. I believe and was an engineer.

I will see if I can lay my hands on more information.

Ida Lundberg

Looking for an Ida Lundberg living in Omaha, Nebraska around 1937 (listed in my gg.grandmother's obit). She would have been quite old by that time. She is my gg. grandmother's sister. She was married to a Lundberg, maiden name Olson or Olofsdotter. They had frequent Olson/Ellickson reunions in Iowa and Illinois. Her sister was Kristina (Olson) Ellickson, brother John Olson. Ida would have been born around the year 1850 or 1860 in Sweden. Some of the names she would have possibly corresponded with are Edna Smith in Illinois, Segred Johnson in Minnesota, Nellie Cass in Illinois, Goldie Ellickson in Illinois.

Terrance: I am in process of researching burials in the Steelesville Cemetery, rural Dassel, Meeker County, MN. The cemetery records indicates that there is a Johan (John) August Lundberg buried in the cemetery and buried due to some very unusual circumstances. The records indicate that this individual was born in 1877, but the cemetery records have been known to be inaccurate. The date of death is missing. There are more details that are known that I would like to share. Is it possible that this individual is one in same as the individual in your inquiry? If possible, please forward your email address. Thanks, Les

POW/MIA Korean War LUNDBERG

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Oneida County, Wisconsin as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. THe Casualty Office has no family contact.

Soldier: KENNETH LUNDBERG
Born: 1930
Date of loss: July 31, 1950

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. The LUNDBERG family is one of those missing.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I am looking for information on why two children in a family added the Lundberg name. Johan Andersson Lundberg (b. 27 Sep 1844 in Stako, Vastra, Skedvi, Vstmnl, Sweden) and Anders Andersson Lundberg (b. 4 Oct 1833 in Stakbo, Vastra, Skedvi, Vstmnl, Sweden) have two other siblings - Eric Andersson (b. 24 Sep 1835) and Anna Stinna Andersdotter (b. 13 Jul 1843). The parents are Anders Andersson (b. 23 Jan 1810) and Brita Stina Hedstrom (b. 11 Feb 1808).

I've heard two different stories: 1) the Lundberg surname was added upon immigation to the US because Anderson was so common; and 2) There were two men with the same name and the Lundberg was added as a way to differentiate between the two. If the 2nd was the case, why would two brothers add the name?

What Langsea names are you looking for? I have extensive info on the Långsjö/Langsea family in the US and Finland.
Langsea is an Americanization of the Finnish. Most of the family with that spelling lived in Washington.

This Erik Lundberg refered to in this message reply is my great grandfather. His daughter Mabel was my Grandmother. I would be very intrested in any information anyone could share with me on Erik and his life in Bright Sands Saskatchewan Canada and also in Sweden before he came. It appears that the author of this reply is Butch? How would I get in touch with him.
thanks, John Rydeen

Re: Berat Raben (Lundberg) born 1856 in Norway; 1940 in Minnesota

1920 US census she appears to list year of immigration as 1881. (Adult children in the household show birthplace of North Dakota).

1910 US census Torger Raben and wife 'Bergen' both list years of immigration as 1881 and both in marriage of 28 years. They probably married AFTER immigration (more info needed to be sure).

1900 US census 'Toyers' Raben lists birth as Nov 1855 in Norway, immigration year as 1882 and married for 16 yrs. Wife 'Berrit' lists birth as Dec 1856 in Norway and immigration year as 1882. All childrn listed as born 'Dakota'. Sons named Christian and Lewis. FATHER Andrew Olson (b. Oct 1834 Norway, immigrated 1884) lives in household, father of which family member is not clear.

Would expect her given name to be spelled as either Beret or Berit in Norwegian records.

Berat Raben (Lundberg) born 1856 in Norway; 1940 in Minnesota

Hello,

I'm searching for any information on either the siblings or parents of Berat Lundberg herself. She was born 1856 in Norway, married to Targer Raben and mother of 6 children: Julia, Christian, Elisa, Anna (my great grandmother), Betsia and Lewis.

I do not know when Berat emmigrated to the United States.

I have seen Berat spelled as Beret or even as Bergen within the US Census. (Minnesota, Polk County, King Township, McIntosh Village) She became a widow in 1913 and lived with her two sons until about 1929 when the oldest son married.
Census then shows Beret living with her Daughter and daughter's family in 1930 census.
