Olivia Delpha Frances
Van Meter was born May 15, 1910 at Smolan, the daughter of
Grant and Amanda Brooks Lundberg. She departed this life May 3, 2000 at the Harlan County Hospital in Alma, Nebraska. She was 89 years, 11 months and 18 days of age.
Olivia was baptized as an infant at Immanual Lutheran Church,
Salina and confirmed at the Methodist Church in
Salina. She attended schools at
Salina, graduating from high school in 1927. She earned a teaching certificate from the Teachers
College at Emporia and taught in the rural schools at
Ada and
Salina. She was also a telephone operator for Bell Telephone Company. In 1932 she was united in marriage to Llyod Ernest Schiever, Sr. at
Salina. They lived north of
Salina until moving to
Salina in 1940. Lloyd died May 19, 1940. On December 28, 1952,
Olivia was united in marriage to Francis Abraham
Van Meter and moved to
Ada. He preceded her in death May 21, 1982. In 1984 she moved to Alma. She was a member of
Peach Lutheran Church, Alma, and formerly Antioch
Baptist Church,
Ada, St. John's Lutheran Church,
Salina, county extension clubs, Bell Telephone Company Employee's Union and was a Girl Scout leader.
Survivors include a daughter, Shirley
Daire and husband Del of Alma; a son Lloyd Schiever, Jr. and wife Elizabeth of Evergreen, Colorado; three step-daughters, Nancy
Lott and husband Tom and Francine
Frain and husband Dick, all of Minneapolis and Norlene
Parrish and husband Jack of
Sterling, Colorado; two sisters, Beryle
Johnson, Spokane,
Washington, and Dorothea Labbs, Spring Hill, Florida; 13 grandchildren and many great grandchildren.
A funeral service was held the morning of May 6 in Alma at the Peace Lutheran Church. Pastor William Runaas officiated. Organist was Jane Runaas. Vocalists were the Bach family. Another service was held that afternoon at Antioch
Baptist Church in
Ada. Pastor Ron Walker officiated. Organist was Melba Bruce. Pallbearers were grandchildren Jeff
Lott, David Schiever, Jennifer
Peters, Janet
Parrish,
Sheldon Frain and David
Daire. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery,
Ada.
