Elisha P. Lore

paulsweet72  (View posts) Posted: 5 Jun 2001 2:46PM GMT
Greetings! I am also researching an Elisha P. Lore, b. Newaygo, MI in 1873. He married Blanche Balcom in 1899. In 1902 Elisha P. Lore was listed in his father's obituary as living in Iron River, MI. Could any of this match the information you have?

Hello Gary,
I believe I am a second cousin of your wife Joanne. Her grandfather, Elisha Peter Lore (father of Maurice) was a brother of my grandmother Margaret Betsy (Maggie) Lore. I have a lot of family information, including photographs, which I would be very pleased to share.

Hello Sabrina, My great grandfather was Edwin Lore, born in Oldtown Maine in 1838. His family was French-Canadian, and he may have anglicized his name when he left Maine and went to Michigan. If you have any info of interest to me, pls. reply.

Do you have anything on a Moses Lore, born in 1804 in Montreal, Canada? He later came to the states, and settled in Oregon. Thank you.

Hi,

I'm new here (to this forum, and others), so I didn't see this when it was posted last year... BUT...

Lore, Laure, Lord, L'Or is all one family, descendants of Julien Laure dit Lamontagne, they all lived in Acadia, all Angliscised their name because of British influence, if he moved to Maine while they were "Lore" it must have stuck, there seemed to be a progression and variations on spellings depending on sources, I suspect this is because they could not read.

In the late 1800's, most of them in Quebec are named Lord. Some even have English names.

Write to me if you want to know more, there are TONS on your family from Acadia, however I can only barely scratch the surface. There's a genealogist who I have not been able to contact yet who wrote 500 pages of Lords.

Cheers,
Colleen
