Hi, I noticed that you posted a reply to my genealogy post about Jean
Baptiste Landry (b) 7/4/1874 St James
Parish.
Do you know anything about your Jean Baptiste's brothers or parents or if they was ever any stories about him owning property that was forfeited to the government to become what is now yellowstone park?
My Jean
Baptiste Landry was my grandfather's uncle. The following is what I know about my Jean
Baptiste.
Does any of this match your grandfather?
a) Jean
Baptiste Landry's parents were Philip Joseph
Landry (b 1835, d 1895) and Marie Olide (olida)
Poche (b 1842 - d 1884) (both from
Louisiana in the Convent, Paulina, and
Luther communities)
b) Jean
Baptiste Landry brothers and sisters were all born in St. Michael's church in Convent,
Louisiana. His brothers and sisters were as follows:
Ferdnand
Emmanuel Landry 1868 - 1893
Marie Amanda
Landry 1870-died young
Marie Ida
Landry 1872-died young
Pierre
Clement Landry 1875 - ?
Jean
Eloi Landry 1878 - ?
Ulysse Martin
Landry 1881 - 1926
c) There is an old story in my family that someone who was a wanderer (left louisiana) owned property in what would be confiscated to become yellowstone park. (there was the creation of yellowstone and then two subsequent annexations to enlarge yellowstone) My grandmother told the story of how my grandfather saw the story in the newspaper that a
Landry had died and that the relatives were to claim the property within a certain time frame. My grandfather took the train from Louisina to somewhere in Yellowstone to claim the property, but the deadline had passed so the land was forfeited to the government and became part of Yellowstone. We don't know exactly which
Landry it was, but we think that it was either Jean
Baptiste Landry or Pierre
Clement Landry.
Please let me know if you think that we might have the same Jean
Baptiste Landry
