Hi Evelyn, I believe we both go back to Patrick kinmont from Scotland in 1690. One of my great GM's was Margaret Smith, dtr. of Henry Smith and Janet Kinmont. She married John Heggie, their dtr. Jessie married James Simpson. I went on the Scotlandspeople site and i may have found the wife of Patrick Kinmont. Do you have any info on who he was married to? Do you have any info on Elisabeth Reid or Janet Cameron who married Kinmonts. I sent away for marriage certificates but they didn't have much info. My email is dmalone6312@bellsouth.net if you want to email me directly. Thanks!!! Donna

Re: Rosanna Kinman b. 1829 GA - Samuel & Carey Kinman Daughter in Law?

Hi Rachelle: Thanks for your research. I believe that you are right on the same path that I have been following. I am about half way thru the 1850 Census of Cass Georgia. I have found some Kinman's but I don't believe the one I am searching for.
I am now looking for a possible Frank Kinman as husband of Rosanna Wallace Kinman. His parents were in the area and I do show a Frank Kinman as one of their son with no other information except but b. abt 1826 in Georgia. This would be a son of Clairborne Kinman and Nancy Elizabeth (Betsey) Bowers. I was thinking maybe Samuel and Carey Kinman as I think I said they lived in the area and also three sons.
Rosanna and family is listed in the 1860 Hunt Co TX Census and in 1870 Bell Co Texas. Another reason I was maybe thinking that the VIctor Kinman in Tom Green Co was the Victoria Kinman was of course with Eleanor, but with the mother maiden name being Wallace it seem to maybe be a clue and Tom Green Co is also in the area that the other Kinman from Hunt Co have lived. (Note: Tom Green Co is also the next county over from Concho Co which Paint Rock is county seat. I have live in this area after retiring from Houston TExas area. As I said I have completed about half of the Cass Co Georgia 1850 census. I hope to find a Frank Kinman. As for the age of Rosetta, I noticed the marriage age and I could not find any reason for this early, early age.
I have had several eye surgeries, the lastest being a reattaching a detach retina and searching the Census is not one thing I look forward too, but I try and do several pages each time I log on. I am using the Heritage Quest that the Texas Library System has. 1850 in NOT indexed on the system that I use. Thanks again for your help. It is my goal to finish out this family by 2008. Will be 75 that year. Of course I do get distracted sometimes...........Hope to hear from you. Leroy

I saw your posting and would like to help. Do you know why Rosanna would have been married at such a young age? She was only 11 in 1840 and 13 or so when Victorine was born, which seems young even in those days. Do you know anything about this family in later years? I've looked and looked for them on the 1850 and 1880 censuses and came up short. I did find a couple of intriguing things, but I'm not sure if they are the right children or not.

In 1880 I found Victor Kinman, a female fortune teller, living with her sister Eleanor, married to Willard Wallace, in Tom Green County, Texas. Could Leona be short for Eleanor? Eleanor and Willard have a daughter named Rosy, possibly named for Rosanna?

In 1880 I also found a Cora and William Ceborin with a daughter Rosanna in San Antonio, Bexar, TX. Suggestive, but certainly not conclusive.

Finally, in 1910 I found Victorine Kinman living with Lula and William and Lula Stahley. Victorine is listed as an aunt. Since there was a baby Lula with Rosanna Kinman in 1870, this could be right?!?

I don't know if this gives you anything new or not. I live in the Salt Lake City area and would be happy to visit the library and look through their microfilm if you find any leads. Best wishes, R.

Hello, Leroy, and thanks very much for responding!
Your information on the Kinman family is more than I have gotten from any other source. Even though I knew Marguerite and her husband, Ed, for all my life, I never talked with her about her family. I am really interested in the additional Kinman and allied family information you have and look forward to hearing from you again.
I did receive your direct e-mail to me, but I, too, had some problems with my e-mail and was not able to respond until now. Please excuse the delay.
Thanks, again. Tom.

Alva and Willie owned a huge home/farm on the very NE corner of town near the blue watertower. I have dozens of photos of their home, farm, orchards etc. I have also located Alva and Willies graves in the old Cheney Cemetery. My father who is nearly 83 has many memories of Willie. Homer and his wife (my grandparents) past away in the early 80s.

Seth Kinman's British ancestry

Our Kinmans (in Pennsylvania) probably came from England or Scotland. They were probably Presbyterian, since the first record is apparently the marriage of William Kinman (in 1725) in a Presbyterian Church in Philadelphia. How long before 1725 the Kinmans were in Philadelphia is unknown. Perhaps William was born back in Britain around 1700-1705.
I suspect that William Kinman was father or uncle of John Kinman (the Quaker married in 1761). I've never been able to find evidence to support this suspicion however.
--- Cheers,
Ken Kinman

Dear All,
Nathan Kinman was born in 1763, Bucks County, Pennsylvania, eldest child of John Kinman and Margaret Smith. Unfortunately, at least one website claims that Nathan had a twin sister named Katharine. There is no evidence that I know of that this is true, and I suspect someone read the name Nathan wrong. An "N" can look like a "K", and both names then have the letters "atha". Unless someone can offer evidence to the contrary, I am assuming that Nathan was not a twin, and that Katharine never existed. I certainly didn't see her listed in the Quaker records of this family.
--- Cheers,
Ken Kinman

Hi Jeff,
I think you are referring to the chair that Seth Kinman gave to Hayes. He gave similar elkhorn chairs to both Lincoln and Hayes. Johnson, who was President after Lincoln, got a bear chair from Seth, and I don't think its location is known either (or was it Buchanan that got the bear chair?---will have to check on that to make sure). Anyway, the Hayes chair is the only one whose present location is known (as far as I know anyway).
-- Cheers,
Ken Kinman
kinman@hotmail.com

Thanks you for your info on Kinmans. I wish I could say I was descendant, but I do not know. I have my gggrandfather in Indiana in 1834 when he married Judatha Dodson. His name was John S. KINMAN. I think his father was Samuel KINMAN but still trying to get proof.
Elaine

          Kinman, Kynman, Kinment, Kinmond, Kinmont
My family eventually chose Kinmont as their family spelling, but records have had them as any one of the above spellings.
Our tree goes back to one Patrick Kinmont who may well have been Patrick Kynman or Kinman. Patrick was a crofter and shoemaker in Balbeggie, Perthshire, and died in 1740. My line comes from Errol, in Perthshire Scotland. Anyone else descend from Kinmans from Errol? I'd love to hear from you. (Please reply to the board, as I don't look at my hotmail account too often!.)
