My family tree takes us back to Syria and the family of Saab. There are many branches of the tree that migrated to America and changed their name. Some kept Khoury, some dropped the H and used Koury. Others went with the name Cury. So, if you are any relation, please e-mail. I have a family tree and would like to find more information on the people. I have the names of over 400 family members, I just now need birth dates, death dates, cities, education, military service, occupation, etc.

My Great Grandfather was Abraham (Ibrahim)Corra (I believe the spelling was originally Khoury, but changed when he came through Ellis Island.) He married Fahada Farris (Ferris). They were from Maudra Sednoiya Syria. He had a brother named Elias.

Any information would be appreciated.

According to what I understand, my great-grandfather's mother was Khoury. He and his 2 brother migrated to the Americas, him going to Dominican Republic (many Khoury family members there) and one brother going to Jalitpan, Vera Cruz, Mexico and the other going to South America (Columbia; I think). I say I think to Columbia because my family lost contact with that brother and my grandfather wasn't raised at home but with Khoury cousins. When I saw the name Saab, it reminded me that the possible relative in Columbia married a woman named Maria Saab and his son Nazim married her sister Marta Saab. They were all married in Columbia. I came across the website in my search, all in spanish but it speaks to the persecution of Maronites and how they migrated to the Americas. I haven't been able to locate the connect to Khoury yet but thought that might help. Marta & Maria's parents names were Jose Jorge Saab and Yamie Jose Uaygen. The were all lebanese or how we say..Libano...Maronite decendants. Oh and my family name is Marun. The possible Columbian relative has the same story I told and many of his family members look like mine and we share these distictive eyes.

Sorry, your Khourys are not my Khourys!

The original ancestor was Saab and we are not sure if that is a first or last name. It could have originally been the first name and then converted to last name.

My Saab had 4 sons. I can only vouch for the one son who was a priest (means khoury) and hence the entire family name switched to Khoury.

There was another son Elias Saab who had a son Hanna Saab. However I do not know any more from that branch.

A third son was Bishop Makarios who served in Akar, Lebanon. Again, I do not know if Makarios was a first name or last.

The 4th son I do not have a name.

So, you do not fall under my Khoury Tree, however if you can get more research on the Saab family we could piece together our family through the Saab branches.

Those are the only Saab family members I know of right now. I do know that a vast number of people migrated to Mexico, many south American countries like Argentina, Brazil, Venezuela and Columbia. In addition Dominican culture had a lot of Syrian migrants to a point that Kippe and Tepili are both very popular. We even had a Syrian(Lebano) become President there (don't recall his name). You may want to start looking at those regions to see if anyone migrated to those regions. Many countries like Mexico required that you changed your name so Michael will be Miguel, Emil will Emilio, Anton will be Antonio, George will be Jorge, etc, etc.
