I am looking for information on my family - Coury/Khoury/Khouri.

My family originates from Lebanon/Syria. My Gr.Gr. Grandfather, Who's first name is unknown, had 3 known sons. He had one by his first marriage, and two by his second.

The first son, by the first marriage, was my great grandfather Abraham. He married Margaret Barkey and had 5 Children - William Paul, Adele, Genevieve, and Fred. This is where the my named changed from Khouy to Coury. There was also talk that Abraham went also by the last name "Khouri."

The second son, from the second marriage is John Khoury. John was married twice also, and had two sons - Eddie, by the first marriage and John Jr. by the second marriage.. John Sr. second wife was named Carrie.

The third son was George. He was also born of the second marriage and had "many children" as the family tale goes.

If anyone sees a possible match. Please contact me. My email is wcoury3@mediaone.net.

There is talk in my family that the Khoury's originated from a town pronounced "Kaf-fa-WHO-na, which I have been unable to locate as of yet from maps of Syria or Lebanon.

Thanks.

Khoury - Syria vs. Lebanon

Bruce,

Thanks for the reply and the insight. What you say makes a lot of sense.

My family, as my grandfather states, is Lebanese. However, I mention Lebanon/Syria both because I understand that Syria was split and Lebanon formed just after WWI, so who knows where exactly they lived?

Anyways, still hunting and trying to put pieces of the puzzle together, for all I know I'll end up being from Mars when I'm done with it. HA! (Not that I have anything against Martians, HEE HEE).

Good Luck,

Bill

Surnames: Khoury, Corra, Kury
My mother was a Corra. Her mother was Fahada Farris Corra. Her husband was Abraham Corra. They were from Maudra Sednoiya Syria. Their name is spelled so many ways because of the way things were recorded when they came through Ellis Island. Also this family is also very well rooted in MA. It can be spelled Corra, Khoury, Kury, Koury, and many others. They also mean "priest".

If you go to Zgharta.com there are maps you can print out.
There is a name of a town called Kfarhawa. My grandmother's name was Frangeih Akouri. From Zgharta, I guess. My grandfather was from Ehden. This name was Sarkis Tetoun (Teton) (Teton)

Good luck
