Hello All

If any one out there is descended from a Katz ancestor who originated in Mogilev-Belarus, Russia then I would love to get in touch with you. My great-great-Grandmother was Beila-Riva/Ryvka Katz and I am looking for any connections. Here is the only information I know. Her father was named Yankel. Beila would have been born about 1858-1860 and she married Morduhk/Mordechai Mendelson and they had about 13 kids of which I have names of 11. I would love to find out more on the Katz family and find out what happened to her parents or siblings.

s/o THOMAS KATZ s/o JOSEPH KATZ - know nothing of Thomas & Joseph , little of Herb, other than he was smart & fascinating! His family is said to have come from Russia - this is all new info to me so I am not at all familiar with KATZ from Russia history -
Am hoping for some enlightenment - just posted more on this family on forums.

I am related to Katzman's from Mogilev - and some of them shortened their name to Katz. None of the names I have that used Katz match yours but I don't know very much about these relatives. You might want to check with other Katzmans or similiar names.

I have done extensive research into my Mendelson ancestral line. My great-great grandparents, which the wife's maiden name was Katz. Supposedly her father's name was Yankel or Iankel Katz. I know that my Mendelson's came from Shklov and later Mogilev, so the Katz would have been from that area as well otherwise my great-great-grandparents would not have been married to one another. I have lots of info on the Mendelson's but Zilch on the Katz's other then the name of my great-great-grandmother Beila-Ryvka Katz and her father Yankel. Beila-Ryvka was born about 1855-1858 and her husband a few years earlier. I had a research group comb through the archives in Minsk, Russia for my Mendelson line. Out of all the research they never turned up any mention of a marriage date.

My father's family arrived through New Orleans, Louisiana, and my grandfather left Ohio and eventually settled in Richmond Virginia.
At the beginning of the twentieth century they were employed by The Texas Oil Company and were oil traders.
At the end of the nineteenth century, they traveled by steamship to and from New Orleans.

They are buried in Richmond, Virginia.
Eventually, they invested in real estate.

Actually my Grandfather Hyman Katzman his wife Zebee aka Cecelia and 4 of their children were from that area ( I have his naturalization papers.

I see that you posted a tree here on Ancestry with the Sanders family. My great grandmother Ella Sanders is related to Thomas A. Sanders Jr., who married Harriet Baxley and was the son of Thomas A. and Adelaide E. Sanders.
