Jean family

Linda  (View posts) Posted: 21 Mar 2000 6:19PM GMT
Hi,
I am trying to get started on tracing my family. I have very little information. My grandfather was Sylvester Jean born in Yell County Arkansas. His father was Simeon Alexander Jean born April 7, 1865 in Yell County Arkansas. Died Jan 15, 1925 in Yell County Arkansas. His father was Albritton H. Jean. He was born in Georgia, I think. Can anyone out there help me.
Thanks.

Albritton H. Jean

This is in reply to Linda's message dated 3/21/00 - Message # 25
My name is Linda Jean, and I think we may be related. I received some info on my family from a lady I met by accident. John and Alcy Jean lived in Heard Co., GA. They had 16 children. They migrated to TX, LA, and AR. It seems from her info your Albritton H. Jean was one of the sons of John and Alcy Jean, and a brother to my great great grandfather, William Lumpkin Jean. The lady that sent me the info's husband's great grandfather was also a brother, James Monroe Jean. There were 16 siblings in all. Their parents were John(b. 1784 in N.C. d. 1860-1870 in Heard Co., GA) and Alcy Littleton Jean (b.1790 d. Jan.7,1854 in Heard County,GA). Both John and Alcy are buried in Franklin Cemetery, Franklin, Heard Co., GA in an unmarked grave.
I am pretty sure this is the same family because I have Albritton H. Jean (b. 1816 in GA, d. Aug. 3, 1887 in Danvile, Yell Co., AR) He was married to Charity (last name unknown) Albritton had 5 sons (one named Simeon Alexander Jean) and 2 daughters. I have a different date of birth for Simeon Alexander Jean (b.1860. My info says that Albritton and his family moved from GA to Coahoma Co., MS in 1849. Then moved to AR sometime between 1850-1860. Simeon Alexander was born after his family moved to AR. Albritton had a second wife, Elizabeth Lewis. They were married in AR after 1870. This info came from the lady I mentioned mostly from censuses. If you would like the name and e-mail of the lady I received the info from, let me know.

Hi Linda,
I would love any information that you could give me. My grandfather Sylvester Jean told me that his grandmother's name was Elizabeth Walkup and his second wife was Elizabeth Derrick.(That was her first husband's surname) But I have no records to prove first wife's name. I did see where a Robert Walkup was looking for anyone with information about a Elizabeth Walkup married to Albritton H. Jean. I will try and contact him to see if he has anymore info.
Thanks for all your help.

The info I got from another contact is as follows:
Philip Jean (1710- ) was married to Elizabeth (--?--)
Son - William Jean, Sr.(b.1735 in Brunswick Co., VA - d.1803in Stokes Co, NC) married Hulda Edmonds(b.1739 in Bruswick Co, VA - d.? ) (I noticed this name on the message board was also listed as Hildah Brown. Don't know which is correct)
They had 10 known children: Beckey Jean Morris, Edmund Jean, Sr, Elizabeth Jean Babbitt, William Jean Jr.(our ancestor), Phillip Jean, John Jean, Patty Jean Pegram, Silva Jean Cummins, Nancy Jean Williamson, Joseph Jean.
William Jean, Jr. (b.3/11/1759 in Brunswick County, VA - d.1844-1845 in Layfaette Co., MO) married Elizabeth Goode (b.1770 in Surry Co., NC - d.?)
They had 2 known children: John Jean (b.1784 or 1788 (conflict in two different census) in NC - d. 1860-1870 probably in Heard Co., GA) (our ancestor) and Narcissa Jean (b.1/3/1800 in Forsyth Co, NC - d.?)
John Jean married Alcy Littleton (b.1790 in GA - d.?) Married in 1805.
They had 16 known children: Daniel B. Jean, Mary Daniel Jean Bledsoe, James Monroe Jean, Nancy Ann Jean Perry, Hardy H. Jean, ALBRITTON H. JEAN (your ancestor), Sarah Jean Knight, John Hopson Jean, Polly Ann Jean, Bartlett Barker Jean, (Adeline ?) Jean, Robert Mathis Jean, Darius Thomas Jean, Littleton R. Jean (This one is not for sure), Martha Jean, William Lumpkin Jean (my ancestor)
Albritton Jean (b.1816 - d. ? Will dated 3/9/1887) married Charity ? (b.1815 in GA - d.?)
They had 7 children: John Jean, William Jean, Robert Marion Jean, Britton Jean, Susan Jean, SIMEON ALEXANDER JEAN, Martha Jane Jean
He had a second wife Elizabeth Lewis after 1870.
According to June 1, 1840 census ALBRITTON and family lived in Heard Co, GA. Then in 1850 census they lived in Coahoma Co., MS. Sometime between 1850-1860 they moved to AR. July 21, l870 census shows they lived in Riley Twnship, Danville, Yell County, AR.

This is where my line of ancestors splits, so I do not have any other information on next generations.
I just gave you the highlights. If you would like to get the e-mail address of the lady that gave this info to me, e-mail me at ldjean@yahoo.com. I am new to this too, so I only have what someone else gave me and word of mouth from relatives. It is interesting. I have found a few differences in my info and that of others though. But it is a start.

So you don't agree with message #31 stating William Jean, Jr & Elizabeth Goode as his parents? Do you think William was his brother. Thanks

John Jean
