Re: Omega Issacks

Here is the little information that I have on Omega Isaacks and his/her family:

The mysterious Isaacks/Isaacs family of Chariton and Linn Counties, Missouri was headed by the equally mysterious Omega Isaacks/Isaacs. This person was born c. 1795 in North Carolina, but appears as a male on the 1850 U.S. Federal Census of Chariton County, Missouri and then as a female on the 1860 U.S. Federal Census of Linn County, Missouri.

In 1850, Omega Isaacks was age 55 and the head of the household. Other family members included John Wood (age 21), Martha Wood (age 17) and Charles Wood (age 17). The census taker did not make note of the relationships of any of these people to Omega Isaacks. Living next door to Omega was the family of George F. Wise and his wife, Lovey (spelled Love on the census).

In 1860, Omega Isaacks was listed as 70 years of age and living in the household of Thomas J. Curtis (age 26) of St. Catherine, Linn County, Missouri. Other household members were Nancy Curtis (age 27), George T. Curtis (age 7) and Mary E. Curtis (age 4). Again, the census taker did not comment on the relationship of Omega Isaacks to the Curtis household.

After a search of the Missouri marriage records, I found that the maiden name of Martha Wood (one of the family members in Omega Isaacks’ 1850 household) was Isaacks. Also, I found that Nancy Curtis (a member of Omega Isaacks’ 1860 household), had been married twice, but that her maiden name was also Isaacks.

My conjecture is that Omega Isaacks was a woman and that she had at least four daughters:

Lovey Isaacks, born 17 April 1824 in Indiana. She married George F. Wise in 1845 (but where? I could not find their marriage record in Missouri). Lovey Isaacks Wise was Omega Isaacks' next door neighbor in 1850 Chariton, Missouri.

Sarah Isaacks, born c. 1828 in Indiana. She married David Irwin Curtis on 22 February 1848 in Chariton County, Missouri.

Nancy Ann Isaacks, born c. 1830 in Indiana. She married Thomas Wood (could he be a brother of Martha Isaack’s husband, John Wood?) on 24 November 1847 in Howard County, Missouri. On 12 October 1851, she married Thomas Jefferson Curtis (brother of Sarah Isaacks’ husband, David Irwin Curtis) in Chariton County, Missouri.

Martha Isaacks, born c. 1833 in Iowa. She married John H. Wood on 23 November 1849 in Chariton County, Missouri.

I am thinking that Omega must have been the widowed mother of these girls. When she lived in Chariton County, Missouri, in 1850, her youngest daughter, Martha Isaacks Wood, her son-in-law (John H. Wood), and his younger brother, Charles Wood, were living with her. Next door was her oldest daughter, Lovey Isaacks Wise and her family.

In 1860, the aged Omega Isaacks lived in the household of another son-in-law, Thomas Jefferson Curtis, the husband of her daughter, Nancy Ann Isaacks.

If Omega Isaacks had been the father of these girls, I would think that his name would have appeared in a census somewhere before 1850 -- either in North Carolina, Indiana or Iowa. It seems that Omega Isaacks appeared out of thin air in Chariton County, Missouri in 1850.

In subsequent generations, the name Omega was used as a female name. I believe that Lovey Isaacks Wise had a daughter named Omega Mary Wise, leading me to believe that Omega was a woman’s name.

There are a lot of unanswered questions. Who was Omega Isaack’s husband? Was Omega her given name her middle name or a nickname? If Omega was a middle or nickname, that may explain why she does not appear anywhere before 1850 in Chariton County, Missouri.

Of course, my conjectures could be all wrong. Omega Isaacks may have been a man and the father of the Isaacks girls. Or, if a woman, she may not be their mother at all but a maiden aunt, stepmother, or some other female relative of their father’s. Who knows?

If anyone has any information about this family, please let me know.

Your info is more detail than I ever knew. :o) I can tell you somethings about Lovie, who was my Mom's Grandmothers, Grandmother, but nothing other than that.

There are two Chariton Co Census's that mention Omega, but one says Male and the other Female. I'm confused, but would love to have what you know and give you what I have! Maybe together, we can find some one else.

Bud
you can contact me at bud at rymrytr dot com.
:o)

This is an older post, but I was wondering if you have ever found any information on Omega Isaacks? He or she had at least four daughters that I know of: Lovie Isaacks Wise, Nancy Isaacks Wood Curtis, Sarah Isaacks Curtis, and Martha Isaacks Wood. They all lived in Chariton and/or Linn County, Missouri.

Sarah Isaacks Curtis was my husband's great-great-great grandmother and I would love to find out more about her family.

Isaacks b North Carolina

In the 1850 Census for Chariton Township, Chariton County MO, there is an Omega Isaacks 55 yrs Male b NC (in 1790), living with John Moore and family. The Moore's, I can't identify. However, living next door is George and Love (Lovy) (Lovie) Wise with children William and Nancy which are family. In other places, Love is shown as having maiden name of Lovy Isaacks; a grandchild Mary Omega Wise.

There is nothing on Omega Isaacks before or after that one census.

Strange things come up. In the 1860 Census Township 58 Range 19 of for Linn Co MO, which is next door to Chariton Co, is an Omega Isaac(s) 70 yrs old and a Female, also born in NC. She lives with Thos J. Curtis, wife Nancy and children George T; Nancy E. I haven't solid evidence for the Curtis family and wonder if the two Omega's are related. Apparently born 15 years apart and both from NC.

Would you NC folks keep the Omega's in mind and post me if you find anything. :o) Thanks much.
Bud aka Rym Rytr

Military Service of Capt. Godfrey Isaacks in American Revolution

It is clear from my reading that Samuel Isaacks,Jr.'s sons Elijah and Elisha Isaacks had stellar careers in the American Revolutionary war. One source said that Elijah was a Brigidare General and Elisha was a Colonel. I know that Godfrey Jr. was a Captain. Has anyone come across any information about Godrey Isaacks, Jr.'s military career in the American Revolution?
Godfrey was born in 1738 Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia and he died in 1787 Wilkes Co, NC

Thanks.

I am Tommie Jean Hunt, daughter of Willie Mae Vinson Newman. She was the daughter of Ora Janette Isaacks Vinson. Her father was Alfred Elijah Isaacks, his father John Tyler Isaacks, then Alfred, then Elijah, then Samuel, then Elijah again, then Samuel Isaacks. They sure used the same names a lot. Mother was born in Tarkington Prairie. I live in Liberty, Texas. I was born here.

Hi ED,
I am one of ELISHA'S 5th generation grand children.
I think we have talked before.
My mother Mary Ellen Isaacks Her father John S. Isaacks (1875) his Father Andrew Jackson Isaacks his father Samuel Isaacks son of Elisha. The lines of your wife.
Elisha and Elijah were brothers My mother born 1n 1901. Knew Andrew. My grand father knew Andrew and Samuel. (These are Not the Andrew and Samuel from Ohio that were in TX.) Now the plot thickens! The Isaacs/Isaack/ Isac/Isaacks and on were so interest in naming their children for their ancestors there in is the trouble.
There were plenty of cousins with the same name. People pick a name and run with it.

We know Elisha was in and out of TX. from Land grants and court papers. We know he died at his Daughters home in TX.
We know our Samuel was here with his wife.
Elisha's birth date is listed as 3 yrs from Elijah. supposedly twins. Rumor or truth I don't know! I haven't seen proof!
I find no trouble with this as I have a Grand father on the other side with the birth on 1850 and 1860 showing at least 4 yrs difference in his on age sane person in Union County GA. (Alfred Nicholson) "No Isaack kin", just an example to fact that people did make mistakes. especially when a neighbor giving info for them. This line is long lived for the most part. and My grand father was sharp minded. as most were.
I hope you are both well!

You also interpret that the Isaacks born in "Ohio" as something else as some of us call them cousins.
we do know That an Elijah was in AL. and married Millie and skipped out. seems also Mississippi. into LA. then TX.
If Our Elisha was not his brother then a cousin and we know that he also was in TX. 1850 and finally moved from with his daughter and died in TX.
The "Isacs" in the counties along the Red River between TX. and Oklahoma are telling some interesting stories and have a book written. that I have been promised to receive this fall. There Is a General Isacs. Not rank but "Name" that was here in TX. {I have never found him anywhere.} Have You?? I am so hoping to get this info and supposedly they are ours also. Hum!
Everyone has their own story seems.
Checking the ships coming into ports there were Isaacks of all spellings.
I know I told you before My own Mothers name on My birth certificate was spelled ISAC. This makes a tangled web so impassable
I noticed that "Sister" and all the variations of spelling were from 1825 till 1940's with name spellings {one was black} I find that very interesting.
Every year we get older and the truth is harder to find and burried in things people write and accepted by some then passed on. The truth never found. DNA is the only answer at this time. Mine only shows my mother, Grand Mother , Great grand mother 5 generations.
Yours is Moodys. Sons follow father, daughters mothers. Have you done DNA on your Moody side yet?
Happy Mothers Day to your wife. my best to you.
We need Isaacks to do the simple swab test.

Oneta
Hi Oneta. The problem is that there are 2 Elishas. Both born around the same time. Both their descendants claim they are Samuel's son. Both had son's named Samuel. Each of the Samuels (sons) married different women. So which is which? Show me some real evidence for either case....there is none. I interpret what little clues there are one way, others interpret them another way.

I think anyone should know that there were mix-ups on dates in those Days.
My own father born 1888 (census stated) thought himself born 1890. 2 years younger. Hum some must not understand the importance of birthdays . NOT! in those days.
A great Grand father born Hall Co Ga of mine is listed on census as 1818 and with same name and family listed as born 1828 10 years later...
Now If we are to assume that the Isaacs/Isac/Isaacks were all perfect on their dates and census takers were perfect.
They are so much smarter than others. Then We are certainly misguided. The DAR accepts those little mistakes as does other bases. If people would look up total amount of people in states at that time they would see there were not as many people there as we fantom. If the family matched it fit.

Well you have a cousin up here in Brady, Texas. He is my husband, Leonard L. Oliver. He is descended from Matilda Isaacks daughter of Elijah and Hester Donoho Isaacks. Who do you descend from? Mary Ann Oliver Have you seen the pictures on line of all the Isaacks?

Thanks for replying I wrote someone a long e-mail that I thought had this website. I have Matilda researched down to my husband, but I need some records. Do you know if they are buried in an Isaacks burial ground. Also Elijah and Hester--Do you know where they are buried? Does anyone have pictures of their tombstones. Thank you for your site. I cannot explain how much it has meant to me. Mary Ann Oliver

I am writing 5 years later, but only recently found the Isaacks connection. Could I get copies of the Spanish Land Grants. You know this bunch was in and near Stephen F. Autin's Colony in Texas. I find Elijah one of the twins and our Ancestor on an 1834 Mexcio Census. Let's excahnge info. I am trying to prove up lineage for the Sons of the Republic of Texas on Elijah.
Mary Ann Oliver

If it's the same Matilda...she was the daughter of Elijah Isaacks and Esther Donaho. Elijah was born in SC. Elijah was the son of Samuel Isaacks and Mary Morgan. Samuel was born in Frederick County, VA and died in Lincoln County TN. He was the son of Colonel Elijah Isaacks and Sarah unknown last name. Elijah was the son of Samuel Isaacks Jr. who was the son of Samuel Isaacks Sr., the emigrant, who probably emigrated from Scotland by way of Wales. My website has all this and more on the Isaacks family.

There's no proof that Samuel was Jewish. It's all speculation because of the spelling of the name using the "k". He probably was not Jewish. Not that it really matters to me but there is no historical records at all giving any proof. There was a book that was written about the history of Jewish people in America and Samuel was listed, mostly I believe because a kinship was assumed with Abraham Isaacks who emigrated to New York. Abraham was in fact Jewish. No kinship has ever been established with Samuel though, who's ancestor Samuel emigrated to Virginia. That Samuel, the emigrant, is thought to have come from Scotland originally, by way of Wales to America.

See my website http://www.ancestralvoyages.com
