Williamson is the gggrandfather of a close friend of mine in Maryland, USA and I can give you his complete line

I just got a copy of Williamson's birth record, hence I found Mary Midgley was his mother

I've found something that you may be interested in. Harold Johnson and his wife, Beatrice had a daughter in 1924, Frances E. As I said a while back, there is no record of Frances Eleanor Hird being born, either in the GRO index or the parish registers, maybe my nan wasn't a Hird, but was brought up by them as I've also found a death of Harold Johnson in Dewsbury in 1934 and Beatrice in 1929. But as he was still with his wife a year after your dad was born, your grandad has to be James Albert Baxby Hird. All 3 children(Harold, Thomas & Mary) were born in Hudderfield to James and Eleanor, Frances was born to Harold and Beatrice, and it wasn't until 1926 that the went to Manchester where a 5th daughter, Veronica died less than a year old.

Nice to hear from you. I have been in touch wih Richard Hird who I believe you know. Your Charles is different to mine. Mine is Charles Harrison Hird born Bingley, reg district Keighley 1877. It's funny how yours and mine are so close together.

My Charles H married Esther Jane Hall in 1899. I couldn't find them in the 1901 Census, then found shipping info for Esther and daughter Eleanor Annie going out to Concord N.Carolina to join her husband. They had a son named Jack approx 1904. I then found Esther on the 1911 Census a Widow in Edmonton N.London with her two children and parents. Somewhere between 1903/4 - 1911 Charles H died..if not, they were separated and Esther just saying she is a Widow, but I think Charles died. Whether in N.Carolina or England I don't know as yet. Very difficult; N.Carolina death records didn't start until 1913. Births from 1904, so haven't found Jacks birth yet.

I have not been able to find shipping info for Esther's return to England. Whether she came back with just the children or as a family I don't know. Charles could have died in N.C or England. I would like to find out.

As far as your Charles is concerned, I found him in Newington London in the 1901 Census. If you don't have this info let me know and I will send it to you.

My Charles parents were Samuel Hird and Mary Harrison.

I have just found Esther's death in the records and have sent for a Certificate, I hope it helps me in some way. I have found a few possible Jack Hird deaths, but still looking.

I do have a Charles Hird b. 1877. Dont have a middle name listed for him but that doesnt mean he didnt have one.

Were his Wife Annie and children (that I know of) Florence b. 1899 and Dora b. 1901? If so then this is the same Charles and I would love to follow it up with you.

My mother Margery was the youngest of Christophers children,
she died in January 2001.

I have the following children of Benjamin Hird and Ann Hey, which I got from a fellow Hird researcher (a descendant of Dinah Hird, m. Joseph Midgley 1794):

John, 1766
Ellen, 1768
Sibyl, 1770
Mary, 1772
Dinah, 1774
Benjamin, 1779 (my ancestor)
Robert, 1787

I'm sure this is not an exhaustive list of the children, so Ellis may be part of this lot. One of these days I must look at the PRs for Haworth!

I am tracing my sister-in-law's family, and she descends from Ellis and Isabella Hird of Haworth. Ellis was born in Haworth in about 1781. Their children were:
Joseph, b. abt. 1816;
Squire (my sister-in-law's ancestor), b. abt. 1819 (Married Mary Wadsworth, b. abt. 1823, Haworth, dau of Jonas Wadsworth, b. 1796/1801, Haworth.);
James, b. abt. 1822;
Dinah, b. abt. 1826;
Samuel, b. abt. 1826;
Grace, b. abt. 1828;
John, b. abt. 1829;
Isabella, b. abt. 1832;
Zillah, b. abt. 1839 (She had a son, Ellis, b. 1859 and was the aunt of Julien Hird, b. abt. 1852).

Squire Hird and Mary Wadsworth had Matilda Hird, b. 1847, Haworth, who married William Spencer Gill, b. 1846, Idle/Windhill, Yorks.

Do you know of this branch of the family. It seems likely that Ellis is a brother of Benjamin, Robert and Dinah. Can you give me any more information?

My family tree is linked ot Henry Hird's wife Elizabeth. Her brother William is my great, great grandad. His daughter was also called Martha. Their parents were Henry Coulson and Martha Sheppherd (or Shepherd - depends who enters the registry details as they weren't too reliable on spelling!). That's where the names Martha and Sheppherd come from. If you require any further details please ask. I wasn't sure how relevant this would be to you.

William Hird & Margaret Stephen are my ancestors. My line goes from their son David (b.1817 in Peterhead) married Margaret Adam (b.1817 in Lumphanan, Aberdeenshire) (m.1849 in Echt, Aberdeenshire). Any other info on William Hird/Margaret Stephen would be great. ie birth,death dates, parents names, etc.

William Hird (1781) & Margaret Stephen, married 1800 in Peterhead, Aberdeen.
William's son, William Hird (1800) married Jean Fraser in 1835.
William and Jean had Jean/Jane (1835), William (1837), Margaret (1838), James (1842), George (1846), John Anderson (1849), Alexander (1856).
My line follows on from John Anderson.

Update.

Further research has shown that George's mother, Jane did not marry George Bilton. She actually died 10 May 1855, after George's birth in April 1855.

Also a typo - Sarah Ann married Harry Hunter (not Hinter).

Seeking Descendants of Henry.

His parents are Thomas Hird (b.1793 Middle Rasen, Linc) and Mary Hewitt (b.1798 Snitterby, Linc.

He married in 1862 to Elizabeth Shepherd Coulson (b.1840 Gainsborough/Louth, Linc. He worked as a butcher in Grimsby in 1881.

Child - Martha b. 1862 Grimsby, Linc. She worked as a teacher and was unmarried in 1901.

A death index for Henry Hird found in 1903, Grimsby but I'm not 100% sure that its him (just a few Henry Hird's around at that time!).

Would love to find any descendants of Henry. I have lots of Hird info to share.

His mother is Jane Hird b.1823 Wadingham, Linc
At the time of his birth she was married to George Bilton, but Geo Bilton is not listed as father on birth record and young George never took the Bilton name.

He married Hannah (Lee??) in 1872 and had at least 2 children
- Sarah Ann b.1879 Halifax, Yk. She married Harry Hinter in 1898 and had Nellie b. 1898, Halifax and George A b. 1900 Halifax.
- Ethel b.1886 Halifax, Yk

I have been trying to trace the Hird descendants and would love to hear from any Hunter/Hird/Bilton cousins. I have heaps of Hird data to share.

Thanks to Allan Hurd, I can confirm that the 3 men are brothers. Their father is William Hird b 1756, Faldingworth, Linc.

His parents are Thomas Hird b.1793, Middle Rasen, Linc
and Mary Hewitt b.1798, Snitterby, Linc

Ben married Ann Barker in 1859. They had 2 children Joseph and Thomas in Wadingham, in 1860 and 1861. I belive that Ann and the children all died during 1861.

Ben then (1864) married Elizabeth Sophia Brain b.1846 Kings Cross, London.

Children include
- Joseph Christopher b.1866 Hamstead. I believe he married twice and had kids Christopher Joseph b.1890 and Florence G b.1901 to different wives.
- George Thomas b. 1867 Camden Town. I believe he married Emma ? (b.1864 Gt Grimsby, Linc) and had Miriam E b.1897, Florence Ada b.1895, Mabel Rosetta b.1897 and William Benjamin b.1899.
- William John b.1869, Islington. I think he married Hettie Frances Jenkinson b.1869 Islington, in 1891.

- Ella M b.1872 Islington
- Ada Emily b.1874 Islington. I believe she married William Dunkley b. 1872 Whitwell, Hertfordshire.

I am trying to find all the Hird's descended from Benjamin.

I think his father was also William b.1756, Yorkshire.

2. John Hird b.1791 m. Elizabeth ? b.1794 Ingham, Linc

3. Thomas Hird b.1793 m.(17.May.1814) Mary Hewitt b.1798 Snitterby, Linc

Can anyone shed light on where I might find birth record's (and whether they actually give names of parents in this era). I was very disappointed to find that the marriage cert from Thomas Hird (my ancester) had no parents listed.

Also if you think you know a sister of the above men I'd love to hear from you.

chris It looks like we may have the same family. I also have George William as the brother of my grandmother Ellen who was born Arkengarthdale 1889, I have George down as the next child born, but have that they moved to Copley Durham shortly before he was born.My grandmother was visiting her uncle Thomas Hodgson in Arkengarthdale on the 1901 census so does not appear with the family in Woodland Barnard Castle. Yes, we are related: you are my half-fourth cousin. Our common ancestor is Benjamin Hird, born Haworth, Yorks circa 1779. You are descended from Benjamin's first wife Olive Rowbotham, born Macclesfield c. 1780. I'm descended from his second wife, Jane Gore.

The name Samuel Hird is in my tribe. My g-g-grandfather was Thomas who I think was baptised Haworth 1782 son of Samuel. His son James certainly used the name Samuel for at least one of his children. Might be connected ?

My husband's great grandfather was Christopher Hird bapt. at Grinton on 24 June 1863, the son of Christopher Hird & Eleanor Birkbeck who married at Grinton on 18 December, 1849. This Christopher in turn was bapt. on 21 September 1823, the son of William & Elizabeth Hird of Grinton.

Christopher Hird (1863) was a farmer of Fremington (between Reeth & Grinton).

Would love to hear from anyone related to or having information on this line.

I have traced two members of my family, Benjamin Hird (b. 1779) and his brother Robert (b. 1787) to Haworth. I have extremely strong evidence to other Hirds in the Keighley and Haworth area through a letter sent by Robert to his cousin Benjamin Midgely in New Zealand, that makes them likely siblings to Dinah Hird (Mr Midgley's mother).

Anyone out there with links to this family?
