This is a rough outline of my Hird families from West Yorkshire. Please contact me if you have any ties with this lot.

Samuel Hird c. 1675 m. c1698 to Unknown. Had children Thomas, Ann, Martha, Samuel and David. All christened before 1709 Bingley. No info on any except Thomas.

Thomas Hird b. 10 Sep 1699 d. 1751. He married Mercy Waterhouse 1729. Only known child Timothy.

Timothy Hird b. 1745 Cottingley, Bingley d. 1817. Married Martha Hey 3 Aug 1777 Bingley. Children Joseph (1), Timothy (2) and David (3). Some other children died as infants names unknown except for Martha b. 1788 d. 1788.

(1)Joseph Hird b. 1799 d. 1803 Bingley married Sarah Leach, no known children.

(3)David Hird b. 1787 Cottingley married Jane Hesling and had 11 children all born Cottingley, Bingley.

Martha b. 1810 m. Joseph Pollard. No known children.
Timothy b. 1812 m. Dinah unknown ch: Hannah, Tamer, Walter, Willliam.
Thomas b. 1814 m. Betty and then Mary ch: John, Henry and Sarah Ann.
Abraham b. 1817 m. Sarah Whiteacre (Whittaker) ch: Ruth and Ellen
Isaac b. 1819 m. Ann Clark no known children
Sarah b. 1821
Jacob b. 1825 m. Ann unknown ch: Annie, Mary Jane and Alice.
Susannah b. 1828 never married.
Mary b. 1829
Elizabeth b. 1832 d. 1835

I have no trace of Joseph, Sarah or Mary.
The others I have marriages for and have managed to trace them and their descendants through the census records through to 1901.

Other names which tie into this line through the female marriages are Alfred Baxter, Percy Whittaker Pollard and Daniel Dalton.



(2) Timothy Hird b. 1783 Bingley d. 1868 Mickelthwaite. He married Sarah Binns c. 1800 and also had 11 children.
Isaac b. 1802 m Mary Hartley then Sarah Walmsley ch: Amelia, Emma, Charles, Francis, Timothy and George.
George b. 1804 m. Hannah Simpson ch: Eliza, Henry, Thomas and Sarah.
Martha b. 1807 m. William Roper no known children.
Mary b. 1811 nothing known.
Abraham b. 1813 m. Sarah Hartley then Elizabeth Davey ch: Jane, Sarah Elizabeth, Martha Ann and John Thomas.
Anne b. 1816 m. Thomas Pickard no known children.
Rebecca b. 1819 d. 1820
Sarah b. 1891 d. 1838
Hannah b. 1821 m. John Seed ch: Sarah, Thomas Alexander, Annie, Mary Jane, George Alfred, Elizabeth, John, Emma and Clara.
Ruth b. 1824 never married.
Elizabeth b. 1829 m. James Gregson Roper ch: Mary C, George William, Sarah Lydia, Herbert H, Lydia, William, John Gregson, Thomas Percival, Edgar Henry and Fred Whitewood.

Other names through the female descendants of this line are Thomas Hanson, William Bland, John William Berry, Arthur Spacie, Mathew Naylor, William D. Kendall, Richard Edmondson, George Croft, Matthew H. Darling and his brother Frank Darling (they married Elizabeth and Emma Seed).

At the moment I am researching my Hall family history. My Grandfather's sister married a Charles Harrison Hird, born 1877 registration district Keighley. On Census Charles birth place says Bingley.

If you have any connection, or have come across Charles in your research, can you please let me know.

I do have a Charles Hird b. 1877. Dont have a middle name listed for him but that doesnt mean he didnt have one.

Were his Wife Annie and children (that I know of) Florence b. 1899 and Dora b. 1901? If so then this is the same Charles and I would love to follow it up with you.

Nice to hear from you. I have been in touch wih Richard Hird who I believe you know. Your Charles is different to mine. Mine is Charles Harrison Hird born Bingley, reg district Keighley 1877. It's funny how yours and mine are so close together.

My Charles H married Esther Jane Hall in 1899. I couldn't find them in the 1901 Census, then found shipping info for Esther and daughter Eleanor Annie going out to Concord N.Carolina to join her husband. They had a son named Jack approx 1904. I then found Esther on the 1911 Census a Widow in Edmonton N.London with her two children and parents. Somewhere between 1903/4 - 1911 Charles H died..if not, they were separated and Esther just saying she is a Widow, but I think Charles died. Whether in N.Carolina or England I don't know as yet. Very difficult; N.Carolina death records didn't start until 1913. Births from 1904, so haven't found Jacks birth yet.

I have not been able to find shipping info for Esther's return to England. Whether she came back with just the children or as a family I don't know. Charles could have died in N.C or England. I would like to find out.

As far as your Charles is concerned, I found him in Newington London in the 1901 Census. If you don't have this info let me know and I will send it to you.

My Charles parents were Samuel Hird and Mary Harrison.

I have just found Esther's death in the records and have sent for a Certificate, I hope it helps me in some way. I have found a few possible Jack Hird deaths, but still looking.
