Check out the Kalkaska County, Michigan board. Has obituaries of Orange's father Sherman Hinds/Hines, Orange's wife Susan and his brother George. I have a tiny connection to Sherman's 2nd wife Sylvia Pemberton who either divorced Sherman or died circa 1882-84.

She was a former employee of Lorree Footwear.
Dorothy loved spending time with her family.
She adored her grandchildren. She is survived by one son; Douglas Hinds and wife Carol of Punxsutawney. Three daughters; Betty Alcorn and husband Beryl of Brookville, Wanda Smith and husband Dean of Brockway & Debra Larson and husband Paul of Punxsutawney.

Rollin Hinds who m. Maryanne, was my great great grandfather. Their daughter Clarissa Elizabeth Hinds was my great grandmother and Clarissa Hinds married Henry W. Walker and had my grandmother, Alma Elizabeth Walker who m. my grandfather, John Levi Birchard. Have you found out any information on Rollin Hinds yet? I believe Maryanne's mother's name was Hope and that's all I have. My mother had a tea pot that had belonged to Aunt Hopey is what they called her.

Hi Glenda, My research of my ancestor John Hinds has hit a brick wall. He married Mary Walpole in Sydney in 1843 but I have no idea where he came from. He described himself as a mariner. He does not appear to have been a convict. He died in 1855 and his death entry tells us nothing.

I have some information on Marten David Hinds and Elizabeth Jane Jumper. I have 6 kids. One you did not list is Grace. I can not find any info on Earle. Mary Gladys married W. Brown Rose and I do not think they had children (I have obit). I have obit for Lois and do not believe she ever married (I have obit). Ben Marten married Sarah Francis Cabaniss and had 2 children (I have obit). Ruby Frances did not marry and died in Terrell State Hospital (I have death cert). Grace married William Robert Thrasher and had 2 children (I have obit).

Hope this gets to you.....My great great grandfather was William Singleton Hinds. My great grandmother, his daughter was Lorena and she married Early Copeland. I understand he is buried in someones back yard and there are only two or three graves there, one day am going to find it and take pictures. I do have a picture that I am told is of him. One of his daughters married a Mr. Stocking.

My father is Karl Hinds from St. Ann Jamaica. I know he has quite a few siblings but I don't know them all. The only ones I know is a brother Sidney and a sister Jean (precious). I met another brother living in England when I was a child bit I don't remember his name. I've always been curious about this my father's side of the family.

My Hinds are from St. Ann but I was told that the family orginally came from Trelawny. My grandfather came to St. Ann from Falmouth, he had 3 other brothers, I am not sure how many sisters but to date there are still family members residing in Trelawny.

Patrick HINDS, bootmaker, Charleston, SC 1750s-1780s

Searching for information on Patrick HINDS, a well-known boot maker in the Charleston, SC area from the 1750s through the American Revolution. I suspect he may have been born in the 1720s and died in the early 1780s. Early in life, he may have been associated with the Church of England, but later in life may have become a Baptist.

The reason for my inquiry is that my eighth great grandfather, Johann Paul TRAUT born 30 June 1726 in Saarbrücken, Saarland, Germany, arrived in the Port of Charleston with his young wife Anna Katharina onboard the snow Anne on or about 1 Oct 1753 as indentured servants of Patrick HINDS. I assume this Patrick HINDS to be one and the same as the shoe maker and boot maker that gained some attention during the American Revolution.

WAPELLO, Iowa -- Edna Marie Hinds, 87, formerly of Wapello, died Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2000, at the Fort Madison Health Center in Fort Madison.

Services will be at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. The Rev. Harlan W. Winter will officiate. Burial will be at the Wapello Cemetery.

There will be no visitation.

She was born Nov. 13, 1913, in Morning Sun. She married Wilbur J. Hinds Feb. 20, 1934, in Wapello. He died March 29, 1986.

She graduated from Wapello High School in 1931. She was a homemaker and worked at the Tillmann Motor Company in Wapello as a bookkeeper. She enjoyed gardening.

She attended the Presbyterian and Methodist churches.

Survivors include two daughters, Ruth Matteson and her husband, Eugene, of Donnellson and Doris Nelton and her husband, Charles, of Ames; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; a sister, Wanda Harris of Morning Sun; a brother, John Hupp of Wapello; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wilbur; a sister, Frances; and nephews.

My grandfather was Frank Clinton Hinds and died in 1969, Jack County, buried in Barton Springs cemetary beside Della Hinds, his wife, and Private Leon Hinds (his son). He had at least three daughters - Leoma Wood(Leon's twin), Lena Brisco, and Lillian Strickland (my mother). I think there were at least two more girls who had a different mother but I cannot remember their names. If you would like additional information please ask.

My greatuncles came from Hindsboro. They grew up in Macon Co., Illinois, and then settled in Hindsboro. I visited there many times as a young girl, spending many summers there with Floyd & Fern Harbarger. Floyed owned the Mobil Station there. Rink & Gladys Harbarger lived across the street from them and Rink, I believe, had a fertilizer business there. I played a lot as a young girl with a cousin, Connie Harbarger. I was just looking at a 5-generation family photo with her in it; howevwer, it has her labeled in the picture with "Bob" Harbarger, and I would have sworn her father was "Neil" Harbarger. I lost tough with her many, many years ago.
Does anyone have any information on the Harbargers? I'm pretty sure Rink's (Raymond Glenn's) sons, Raymond Robert (Bob), Richard Neil (Neil), and William Glen (Bill) have all passed away. He is buried in Northwood, Iowa. Where he died. Our grandmother is also buried there. Her name is Grace. Her maiden name is Rees. They had many children. They moved there from near Pleasanton, Kansas. They had a farm there and sold it. This date is death that you have for him is nearly correct.

My great-grandfather was George W. Hinds. He is buried at Lake City, Tenn (formerly called Coal Creek, TN). I seem to remember that he died Dec. 1, 1900. I have seen his grave but can't remember details as it has been several years ago. I don't know the name of the cemetery but it was not being kept up (it had lots of weeds and needed to be cut). We had to park in someone's driveway to walk up to the cemetery. I do know that his first wife died (I come from her line). I don't know his 2nd wife's name. If you think that this is the GWH that you are looking for I cn ask my cousin about it since he keeps up with such things.

My great-grandmother's sister was Sophia Hart of Roane County, TN, who married George W. Hinds/Hines. I've seen a picture of the head stone of George W. Hinds/Hines. He is buried in the Cave Creek Cemetery. Sophia's name is also listed on the stone but there is no date of death listed. Does anyone know her date of death and if she is buried there? Thank you for responding, but I don't believe this is your Esther. This Esther's maiden name is Hinds, married name Allen. These Hinds girls were born and raised in Rhea Co TN. I did some research on the family to see if they were connected to mine in any way, since I couldn't explain why my family had these things. I e-mailed one family tree maker who had these ladies in their tree, but they didn't respond. There were several trees that had them and instead of trying to contact each one, I thought I would try the message board.

My great grandmother was Esther Eulalia Hinds. Her maiden name was Williams. She was born in 1890 and her first child was born in 1914. The timeline fits for graduating in 1912 and having her first born two years later. I just don't have a date of marriage for her so I am not sure if at that time she was married and going by the Hinds name or not. She was born in Iowa. If no one else claims the Commencement Program I would hold it and see if it is the Esther Hinds in my family. If not I could forward it to the gentleman collecting other Hinds information. Several of us have established our descendancy from Joseph through good paper trails that have been verified by DNA. If you are a descendant of Joseph, do join in our DNA project on Family Tree DNA. Another member of this project has a good paper trail back to James Hinds of Salem but we are not related to him at all.

Wills-Kathleen Lamb in her notes she left at McClung Historical Collection in Knoxville, TN said that between 1942 & 1945 Mrs. E.T. Ingram Sr, whose parents were both HINDS, told her (Kathleen Lamb) that she had always heard that her HINDS family had started out in Salem, Mass. & went to Long Island, New York & then into New Jersey before going to North Carolina & then into Tennessee.
DOES ANYONE HAVE PROOF OF JOSPEH HINDS FATHER-Some want to say James HINDS but he may be from another group of Hinds??The McClung Historical Collection in Knoxville lists James HINDS as the son of James HINDS (wife Ruth) the immigrant in Salem, Massachuseetts-was married in 1730. Said James moved to N.C. before the Revolutionary War from Morris County, N.C. 2400 Tennessee Pensioners, Revolutionary War & War of 1812 compiled by Zella Armstrong, lists a James HINDS 1818 age 96-also in 1840 census; served in Virginia Line" drew pension in Grainger Co. TN. said James Hind's children were John HINDS born 9 June 1745 d. TN (Knox or Roane Co)in 1810. He resided on Beaver Creek in Knox Co. During the Revolutionary War he held the rank of captain & served as adjutant to Col. James Martin from Randolph Co. N.C. in 1779. Said their children included Sylvanus, Levi, John, Simeon, Susannah, Asa, Abigail, Moses, Louisa & Keziah. The vertical file at McClung Library says JOSEPH HINDS m. abt 1730 possibly Essex Co or Morris Co. N.J. RUTHA BALDWIN who d. bet 1759-1763 in probably Mendham N.J.--Lovina Norton says on the internet that it was Rutha HIGGINS who he married & that she was b. abt 1718 Guilford Co. N.C. married abt 1730 Elizabethtown, Morris Co. N.J.

I have many listings of records showing JOSEPH HINDS in Morris Co. N.J. (Morris Co was taken from Hunterdon County in 1739.) By 1761 Joseph HINDS had moved to North Carolina. IN 1761 he married Susannah McConnel in N.C.. Mar 1763 he buys land in Rowan Co. N.C. (which became Guilford Co & now Randolph Co. N.C.) Apr 14, 1772 there was a Will on file in Guilford Co. N.C. It was probated Aug 1772. His will mentioned his wife Susanna, his wife's daughter Ann McConnel and also Prudence Roberts & his sons Joseph, Simeon, Levi & John.

I hope to hear from anyone related to my JOSEPH HINDS SR.

My JOSEPH HINDS SENIOR was born abt 1700 in Elizabethtown, Essex Co. N.J. d. bet. 14 Apr 1772 & Aug 1772 Guilford Co. N.C.--N.C. Wills-Kathleen Lamb in her notes she left at McClung Historical Collection in Knoxville, TN said that between 1942 & 1945 Mrs. E.T. Ingram Sr, whose parents were both Hinds, told her (Kathleen Lamb) that she had always heard that her Hinds family had started out in Salem, Mass. & went to Long Island, New York & then into New Jersey before going to North Carolina & then into Tennessee.
DOES ANYONE HAVE PROOF OF JOSPEH HINDS FATHER-Some want to say James Hinds but he may be from another group of Hinds??The McClung Historical Collection in Knoxville lists James Hinds as the son of James Hinds (wife Ruth) the immigrant in Salem, Massachuseetts-was married in 1730. Said James moved to N.C. before the Revolutionary War from Morris County, N.C. 2400 Tennessee Pensioners, Revolutionasry War & War of 1812 compiled by Zella Armstrong, lists a James Hinds 1818 age 96-also in 1840 census; served in Virginia Line" drew pension in Grainger Co. TN. said James Hind's children were John Hinds born 9 June 1745 d. TN (Knox or Roane Co)in 1810. He resided on Beaver Creek in Knox Co. During the Revolutionary War he held the rank of captain & served as adjutant to Col. James Martin from Randolph Co. N.C. in 1779. Said their children included Sylvanus, Levi, John, Simeon, Susannah, Asa, Abigail, Moses, Louisa & Keziah. Other childdren of James Hinds were Chanetto b 16 Nov 1731; Hannah b 2 Jun 1734; Joseph b. 17 June 1735; Simeon (Rev. War soldier) b. 15 Mar 1742, Levi b. 25 Aug 1742 & Mary b. 6 Feb 1748

The vertical file at McClung Library says JOSEPH HINDS m. abt 1730 possibly Essex Co or Morris Co. N.J. RUTHA BALDWIN who d. bet 1759-1763 in probably Mendham N.J.--Lovina Norton says on the internet that it was Rutha HIGGINS who he married & that she was b. abt 1718 Guilford Co. N.C. married abt 1730 Elizabethtown, Morris Co. N.J.

I have many listings of records showing JOSEPH HINDS in Morris Co. N.J. (Morris Co was taken from Hunterdon County in 1739.) By 1761 Joseph HInds had moved to North Carolina. IN 1761 he married Susannah McConnel in N.C.. Mar 1763 he buys land in Rowan Co. N.C. (which became Guilford Co & now Randolph Co. N.C.) Apr 14, 1772 there was a Will on file in Guilford Co. N.C. It was probated Aug 1772. His will mentioned his wife Susanna, his wife's daughter Ann McConnel and also Prudence Roberts & his sons Joseph, Simeon, Levi & John.

I have some documents that I would like to give to interested family members. I don't know how my father (now deceased) came to have these but they seem to be unrelated to our own family:
1. 2/10/1908 note from 13 y/o Cordelia Hinds of Rhea Co TN to "Aunt Ann". Cordelia explains she is Ann's brother's grandchild, Dave Hinds' girl.
2. 1912 Commencement program, Grandview (TN) Normal Institute with names of Esther Hinds and Olive Hinds underlined.
3. Oct. 1898 newspaper article re Co. E 1st TN Infantry reunion. Many names mentioned incl A. N. Hinds and J. J. Hinds.
4. 6/23/1912 letter from Martha McAfee, Dequeen, AR to Mag Mynatt, Long Lane, MO
5. 3/5/1911 letter from Martha McAfee to cousin Maggie Mynatt, Conway, AR
6. old undated newpaper article re 12/24/?? wedding of daughter of Jasper Miller of Charity MO to Clyde Wingo, Springfield, MO.
