I'm sorry, there is no Joseph Heuser in my family history that I know of. I have a couple close matches, Charles Heuser who was born 1/27/1913 and died 8/1986. His father was Augustus Heuser and mother was Kathleen Adams. He resided in Jamesburg, NJ. Another close match was Charles Heuser who was born Charles Jarmen Jr. in North Carolina. Story goes that Charles' mother Margaret Heuser was murdered by his father Charles Jarman in North Carolina in 1969. Charles and his sister Kimberly were adopted by an uncle Charles Kemp Heuser and his wife Mae Locklear. They also lived in North Carolina. Hope this helps.

I am also a Heuser by blood. My blood grandfather, my dad was adopted at six, was Charles Heuser. He commited suicide in 1986 and all knowledge of that side of the family went with him. So now my interest. I am related to the Hotchkins on his mothers side, but his fathers side I can find no info on. His fathers name was Joseph Heuser. I would like to see your family tree in order to see if this person is located anywhere on there. Rumor is Cherokee lies on his side. I tried using HEUSER2009 to search and it lists nothing. any more guidance would be great.
Thank you!!!

Heuser's of Matawan, NJ

I am the great, great grandson of Caharles Frederick Heuser (Karl Fredrick Heusser) born in Hessen, Germany about 1829. He immigrated to the U.S. around 1848. His mother Amalia (1805-1872), his brother Louis (1839-1891), a possible brother Conrad ( b. abt. 1844), and possible sisters Catherine (b. 1843) and Caroline (b. 1848) immigrated in 1858 on the same ship. Amalia, Louis and Caroline were all found residing with Charles in the 1860 Census. I dont know where Conrad and Catherine went. Husband of Amalia may have been named Conrad but have no real evidence. I know the family is from the Hessen area of Germany but cant find a real connection to any other Heuser's in Germany. No record of death cert. in New Jersey for Amalia though she is buried in Rose Hill Cemetery in Matawan, NJ with Charles and Louis. Pretty much run into a wall. If anyone has any info it would be very much appreciated.

:( unfortunately I have moved to a remote area where I get very slow internet and I am unable to load apps such as facebook and myspace. It is a real bummer. I am not able to do any types of multimedia things online. But I can email. I do have a gmail account, so we could chat if you have one. Let me know what you think on that. If it is a go, then I will post a specific ad on craigslist and upload the link and you can reply with some details that I would know I was working with you. (I dont know how comfortable I am posting my actual email address out here.)

Their children included Margerette, Emma, Mary, Harriet, Charles, Elisabeth, Josephine, and Walter. James Q. served in the Civil War and was wounded. He supposedly was wounded in the leg and the doctors were going to amputate his leg. As the story goes he refused to allow the doctors to take his leg so the doctors performed a first of its time sergery and saved his leg. History of the surgery is supposed to be in the Library of Congress.

I was so suprised to see that anyone was looking for any of the Heuser branch they were not real big breeders. My Great grandmother was Anna and her husband was Harry. Harry Robert Heuser was my grandgather and died in Philadelphia in 1955. I know of the child who died there is a picture of her with my grandmother. She is the only child to known to have died of typhus. Aunt Elsie lived in Florida with us. We all come Philadelphia, but the Heuser side of the family moved to N J We all took off for Florida .

My ex-husband is a Heuser. I thought it was interesting that you mentioned the two pronunciations of the name. It was the first time I had seen anyone talk about that particular peculiarity of the name. Only one time did I hear the name pronounced correctly as HIGH-ser when I went to a physician specialist from Poland. Which coast used the HIGH-ser pronunciation?
Anyway, my two daughters, of course, had the maiden name of Heuser. I am sure they would be interested in any history of the name. My ex-husband said that his grandmother traced their branch of the family back to the second ship after the Mayflower. True? I have no idea. He never shared anything else with us. His father's name was Myron and he married a lady named Elizabeth (maiden name unknown). Does that ring a bell with anyone?

Wow Mike, THANK-YOU! The information you posted helped to fill in a lot of blanks and also solved a couple of mysteries! Yes you're right, the Heuser family family from Wisconsin was very unlucky, but thankfully some actually survived! I wonder if an epidemic hit that area around 1881? If you have any more Heuser names, please feel free to list them as I might be able to find where they belong. Thanks again Mike! Kathy

Most of these people are burried in that cemetery. Catherine and John are in the Mt. Horeb Union cemetery however.

For some reason many of the Heusers, including my grandparents, were buried in the Mount Horeb Union Cemetery, rather than German Valley. Maybe because the congregation moved to town about 1919??? The German Valley Cemetery is still used occasionally.

This is not as easy as it looks! The only Thousand connection I have with the Heusers is that Katherine Thousand (b Jan 18, 1890 in Blue Mounds, WI & d May 8, 1978 in Dane County, WI), was daughter of John Thousand and Catherine Scholl and married William Henry Heuser on Oct 25, 1911 in Mount Horeb, WI. They farmed just outside of Mount Horeb - I remember them well as William was my dad's uncle. They had five children - I have their names, DOB, spouses and a few grandchildren, if you want them. I asked a daughter for info on the Thousands and she said knows of none. Dorothea Bilse married Peter Jakob Heuser. Peter was born in 1835 in Hessia and died in Blue Mounds, WI in 1822 (I don't have her dates). He was the son of Peter Heuser and Sophie Schneider. I asked a Bilse friend what Dorothea's connection is to the other Bilses around and she said there is a Bilse conclave at German Valley Cemetery in May and will get back to me. P.S. They are looking for Herman Bilse.....any ideas? And a little church history - the Blue Mounds German Lutheran congregation (aka German Valley German Lutheran Church and now Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mount Horeb) was organized in 1856 and the original group included Peter Heuser, Henry Bilse, Daniel Becker, William Thousand, Ferdinand Steyer, Reinhardt Scholl and Peter Henry Thousand. The three acres of land for the church was purchased from Justus Heuser in 1867. A little earlier history - Peter and Sophie and seven children immigrated in May 1853, leaving Germany by the port of Bremen on the sailing ship Helene. It had 308 passengers. The ship landed in New York on July 2, 1853, and their destination was Blue Mounds, WI, and German Valley (which was once called Hessen Hollow). Peter Heuser, who was a farmer in America, was a stone mason in Germany and he built one of the landmarks of German Valley, a stone house on the Kahl farm, built for Henry Kahl.

Hi
Peter Heuser and Sophie Schneider were my great great grandparents, with Johann Jost (called Justus his entire life) being my great grandfather. I have Justus's family info -- there were more children - 11 in all with two wives, Augusta Fenster and Mary Steyer - one being my grandfather Fred. Others not listed in the previous e-mail are Peter, Pauline (married Fred Williams), Fred (married Ella Rischmueller), William (married Katharine Thousand) and Adolph (married Annie Lukken). Most of these people, including, my grandparents Fred and Ella, lived around Blue Mounds or Mount Horeb, Dane County, WI, during their lives. I have lived here most of my life, too, so I have followed the Justus Heuser family. Justus's brothers and sisters are Anna Heuser(married Christian Erbe), Jacob (married Dorotha Bilse), Marie (married Konrad Schafer), Henry (married Sophia Becker) Katharina (married Christian Erbe- he was just part of the family, I guess) and Daniel (married Katherine Becker). For about 90 years the Heuser name was prominent in this community, however, now my brother and my nephew are the only men with Heuser names around. It is interesting to read about all the other Heuser families -- I would be happy to pass on other info I have (including about the Bilses)

It is possible but they would have been having children for a long time. I have the following children for Justus:

Anna b. 1864
Frank
Catherine
Augusta
Emma
Ida b. 1879
(from the 1880 census)

Wilhelm Heinrich Heuser was born in 1889. It is possible. Were there more children to fill that gap.

Thank you. Allow me to throw another name out there, any idea on the relations of Gotthold Reinhart Gerke?

I have not seen any records on the internet. I have a source who has a printed copy, I will try to find this out for you.

Dee
