I believe my geat grandfather Otto Harms was born in Pommern, Germany. He had several brothers and at least one sister. They came to the US in 1869.

I just saw your old message. I am living in Germany, my family comes from Pommern. I know a lot about the family. There are a lot of names like Otto, Adolf, Ludwig etc. Do you have some more details what you are looking for?
With kind regards,

Lutz

HI, How interesting to find someone with the last name of Harms living in Germany! Everything that I know is posted on ancestry.com under the name of Harm Mangels if you do a search.
What I know is that the first name that we have is Harm Mangles from about 1750. His son Garlich Harms is my Gt Gt Grandfather. Garlich also had a brother Henrich Harms. The boys were born about 1770. Garlich married Hiemke Ladewig and Henrich married Neinke Maria. We don't know if there were more children.
We have pretty complete information on Garlich after his marriage, but we have nothing on Henrich.
There are bits and pieces that we are still looking for to complete the puzzle for Garlich and we are looking for anything on Henrich.
We know that the family moved to Carolinensiel about 1859. The last children were born there.
I have lots of photos and would be glad to share them with you. We have several that were taken in Germany in about 1866. None are labeled, but we have been able to label most of them, by referring to more current photos that we have that were labeled.
If you want you can contact me at Highstakesranch@aol.com.
Won't it be cool if we could find a connection to our families!
Let me know if you have any other questions that I might be able to answer. Cindy

Hi Lutz,

My Harms ancestors in Germany were Dietrich HARMS, born 1590, died 1664 in Stockse, married to Catharine Krumwiede; their son, Dietrich HARMS, was born 1628, died 1710, and married Catharine Glocken. Next generation: Catharine HARMS, born 1654, died 1727 and married Heinrich Niemeyer. Other surnames in that line are: Runge, Schrader,Kahle, Bergmann.

Another HARMS line is: Anne HARMS, born 1633, died 1702 in Steimbke, married Johann Krumwiede. Other surnanmes in that line are: Duensing, Block, Dauel, Dannenberg, Bergmann, Niemeyer.

In both lines, most of the descendants lived and died in Germany (Steimbke/Stockse area). Do my HARMS ancestors match any that you might have? Thanks.... Linda

sorry, but there seems to be no match between our ancestors.

I saw your reply to the Harms family in Germany. I too am looking for ancestors that originated from there. My problem is that I have currently hit a road block. My g-grandparents were George Herman Freidrich Harms (b.1956 in Hamburg-d.1957 Chippewa County, MN) who married Clara Hansen (b.1892 d.1965 Young America, Carver County, MN). They had 7 children: Evelyn Dorothy who married Edwin C. Stender (my grandparents), George Herman (Shorty) Jr, Sylvester (Sal) Freidrich, Gladys Gertrude, Clara (Claris), Gilbert (Coop) Herman, and Walter. I cannot seem to find anyone who knows who my g-grandparents are or where they came from. If any of this is similar to your family I would appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide.
Thank you
Patty Hanser
