Hard Times Family Newsletter

Bill Hard Jr.  (View posts) Posted: 31 Jul 2000 11:08AM GMT
Back in 1988 my father, now deceased, and my uncle started a family newsletter researching our heritage. They worked on it for years, and it was continued by my uncle after my fathers'passing. All told 22 issues were published. I might be able to offer assistance to some of you researching ancestors, particularly if your tree starts back in Conn. or Vt. Issues are no longer being made at this time, but with enough info who knows???

If you start the newspaper let me know. Can you give methe story of how the Hard name got started and where they origionally came from. MY great grandfather was charles from Ohio. His father was Edwin H. Hard. I'd like to find their lineage to others and find all cousins down this line..carolyn

Hello...I was surfing the geneaology on AOL and put in the last name of Hard, which is a Great Great Grandparent's name. Of course, I don't have my Family history handy. By memory, I recall that it is Charles Nelson or William Nelson Hard of Vermont. I will find this history to be sure, but do remember reading the Hard Times Newsletter in it. My Great Aunt in Fla. gave us this family history. I know that longevity was a big thing on this side of the family and will be looking forward to getting any additional info/sharing info with you as I am new to this, but very interested.
Thank you...Doug Swanson

I recently received an email requesting more information about the Hard family newsletter, which a relative mistakenly thought I posted here. I straightened them out but at the same time thought I would say hello. My name is William Lawrence Hard Jr. I live in northern San Diego County and my Father William Sr. lives in Sandy Hook CT. I will have to get off my duff one of theses days and spend some time looking over the family history. Well back to work, just thought I would say hello. Bill

I will gladly help as possible, however I have way too many pages to scan in and mail out than my time permits! If you have a specific request for some info I will gladly look, otherwise I could start with the first issue if you'd like. Or better yet, maybe an introduction to our side of the family, if you'd give me a day or two.

Hi Bill,
That sounds great. Email me at: morgantein@msn.com . I have a private "Hard Family" page. There are over 60 of us now, and we have all pooled our info. You could see what we do (and don't) have so far. Cindy

An introduction

Bill Hard, Jr  (View posts) Posted: 30 Aug 2000 8:42AM GMT
About 15 years ago on a trip home to N.Y. with my then lady friend my family and I sat in our house looking at old photo albums of our family. Unfortunately there were many pictures of people we didn't know by name, taken around the turn of the century. The bad part was there was no one left, especially on my mom's side, to tell us who these relatives were. It was her mothers photo album, and probably her mothers before that. Well I put a bug in my dad's head about not losing our family heritage, etc., and lo and behold, he and my uncle started the Hard Times family newsletter. Now I don't know how long my uncle had the interest, but they spent an incredible amount of time gathering info to accomplish what they did. We have stories, letters, old newspaper clippings, microphiche(sp?) files, you name it. Like I said, I have every issue, but it will take quite a while to scan it all in, but we'll go from there. Just to let you know a little about me, I live on the gulf coast of Fl.with my wife Karen, am 49 yrs. old with, unfortunately I think sometimes, no kids to pass this all on to. Alas my brother has none either, both parents are deceased, so our line will stop sometime in the future. But it will be fun sharing what we do have with our relatives, however distant they may be. Will be in touch soon!!
