Julius Gottschalk in Kansas

Julius Gottschalk is buried in Pine Lawn Jewish Cemetery in Fort Scott (Bourbon Co) Kansas. Judging by the style of the headstone and the grave's location in the cemetery, I would say he was buried there in the late 1800s.

Pine Lawn served as a regional Jewish cemetery, being the only one in Southeast Kansas.

I don't know when or where he was born or died -- other than he must have died in SE Kansas or perhaps SW Missouri. I have no information about family.

Any information, tips, hints, clues would be most welcome!

MTIA!

LOL How funny :) I haven't been on this in YEARS but still have the same email so was notified of your message. Yes I am Jerry's daughter....I thought that's who you were. I've seen some pictures of your dad on facebook recently and can't get over how much he looks like mine. So sad that we've never met and I haven't seen your parents since I was very young. I never did find any more info on our grandparents. The search came to a dead end for me. I haven't done anything with it in a long time. Especially now that you have to pay for it :)

Kristin

Parents died during voyage and were buried at sea. 4 children were quarantined
1850, New York. Two sisters died within the week. Jacob was ill and escaped quarantine under the skirts of a relative. She was sure she would never see him again alive if she did not take him out.
I am looking for a Gertrude Gottschalk who would only be carrying Gottschalk because it was her surname with her first marriage to William F Gottschalk. They would have resided in Michigan at the time of their marriage. I understand they had a general store in Chapin Twnshp., MI. Also, I understand they had one child together. Any information would be greatly appreciated. William F. Gottschalk was born 1899 and so I am guessing her approximate age would have been close to his. The marriage fell between the 1920's / 1930's.

I have no idea how I found or came to this photo. But I am in search of a Gertrude Gottschalk (which would have lived earlier in Michigan). Her maiden name I do not know. Also, she would have married a William F. Gottschalk and I have been told she had a child with him. They later divorced and he remarried and had another child. Which would be my mother. I saw the photo and am grasping wondering if there is a connection to "Trudy" and how are the other two women related? How old is photo? Daughter would have to be born between 1925 and 1944

Hi,

My family also has the dearly-held belief that we are related to Louis "Moreau" Gottschalk.

We are descended from Andrew Gottschalk of New Orleans through his daughter Julia. So far, my research has found no connection whatsoever. I would love to hear about what you have found about Andrew and his family.

I had suspected Gustave was one of Andrew's children from a prior marriage. IMO he is likely the Gustave listed on an 1838 passenger manifest with Andrew and several other Gottschalks.

I was told that Anthony Gottschalk was born before 1800 in Hamburg Germany. He married Lena Maxin who was born in Berlin Germany. I believe that they married after they arrived in the US. They lived in NW New York state for many years. Lena was also married to Herman Lant. I don't know which husband was first. Children include my grandmother Edith Gottschalk (1892-1962), Kate Gottschalk, Anna Gottschalk, May Gottschalk, Edwin Gottschalk, John Gottschalk, Herman Lant, William Lant, Ann Lant, John Lant Long. Most of the family were shipbuilders and commercial fishermen. Does anyone recognize this family. I've enrolled in the Gottschalk list serve but so far haven't had any hits.

Dear Gottschalks and family,
I was scrolling through some old messages and saw yours. When you first posted it the name Herbert meant nothing to me as I was looking for someone I thought was named Hans. I very recently learned he was actually Herbert John Gottschalk, Born in Germany November 8, !911, came to US through Ellis Island December 1923 with father, Hubert and mother, Wally (nee Fischer). I think he is a brother who lived with parents until Wally's death in NY area, then to California area. The SSDI search had him in Santa Clara until his death in 1983. I would love to get info on his history.
Sincerely Gloria

I am looking for Hubert Gottschalk who came from Koln-Lindenthal,Germany sometime between 1920 and 1930. He was naturalized in 1930 in Bronx, New York. He also resided in Patterson, NY and last NY address was in Putnam Lake. Sometime while in NY he married a woman named Wally who may have had a young son. She died in April 1939 and he remarried in 1840 to Hermine van der Erve and had 2 children. They all moved to Florida 1948 and remained there until Hubert and Hermine died. Their living children would very much like to learn any early history on Hubert and Wally both, and hopefully find her son, as he may be a half-brother.Thank you
