Gomberts in Texas/Louisiana

I am seeking info on the Gombert family which lived in New Orleans, LA, in the 1870's, then relocated to Galveston, TX, until the 1890's or thereabouts. The Gomberts in TX seem to have fizzled out or relocated again.

The head of the family was a Marius J. Gombert, born 16 Mar 1825, reportedly in France; listed as grocer in LA, and a merchant, possibly involved in shipping, in TX. A cousin related that he was a sea captain before coming ashore. She also recalled mention that he was from Marsailles, France. Marius died in 1889. His wife, Margaret J. Snell, was from Ireland. They had several children, including a Marius.

My 2g-grandfather, Christoph Gomber b. 21 Feb 1785, immigrated to Milwaukee Co, Wisconsin with his children in 1846-47. In the U.S., they are known by the name of Gomber.

After a 5 years search, I have found his children's births in Perl or Niederperl, Germany. The youngest had their First Communion and Confirmation in Apach, France. These records show that in Europe, they went by the name of Gombert.

Is anyone familiar with Christoph? He supposedly was a soldier in Napoleon's army. His children were named: Frederick, Anna Maria, Michael, Christopher, and Margaretha.

Hello fellow Gombert researcher. My name is Richard Gombert. I started researching my family with my father 15 years ago.
Since that time I have expanded to include the whole surname as my research. Currently I have 40 different lineages ranging from 1 to over 1000 individuals.
Some of these I have been able to combine together into larger lineages (and introduce family members to each other).
I also edit a small family newsletter to keep family members and researchers up to date as to the status and results of various research.
Please drop me a line and let me know if you are interested.

Rich

My father was born to William and Esther Gombert in Lehighton. I believe my grandfather and grandmother grew up in East Weisport (spelling ?). I do know my grandfather owned a bowling alley in Lehighton. Unfortunately I never knew my grandfather, he passed away before I was born. My grandmother passed away in 1972 when I was 6. My father passed away in 1998. I don't have much information beyond that. My mother says there are pictures in the basement but she is in PA and I am in Maryland. My father had a sister named Louis. She married a Blank and still resides in Lehighton. As I learn more I will try and pass on.

thanks

Bill Gombert

I'll need an address.

I am skipping the spring issue this year. I am finishing my besement, fixing up the house, starting to telecomute, and generally too busy.

I will get the back issues together and send them out to you.

Off the top of my head I do not know of a Lamont Gombert in any of my databases.
Herbert John Gombert

This is my father. He was first generation of his family born here in thes U.S. His father John or Jon died when he was a year old. His mother was Elsie Nienstedt. They both came from Germany as young people. I don`t know if they married here or in Germany. My grandmother married twice later in life. She did not have any other children, but had one step-daughter who has since deceased. Oviously my grandmother past away about 30 years ago. Unfortunately I don`t know too much about my father`s people, but I would like to learn if there are any relatives out there. My father married Alice Rose Hood in the Bronx, New York where they lived until 1943 at which time they moved to New Fairfield, Connecticut. They divorced about 1953. I also have a brother from this union, Howard John Gombert, Sr. My married another woman and adopted 3 children. David, Philip and Susan. Philip has died at the age of 13. David`s whereabouts are unknown at this time and Susan is a ward of the state of Connecticut asshe is Autististic. I had an a great Aunt who use to visit us often when I was a child, Lulu Albinger. She taught me how to sew , crochet and knit as a child. I would appreciate any one who may have more information on my father`s family. Both of my parents have died now about 11 years now. They died within a year of each other. They had remarried after my step-mother passed away. Thanks for any help that you may have.

I have information on two differnt gombert lines in and around Carbon County, Pensylvannia. You can visit my genealogy web site at:
http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~gombert

Look at line 10 Philip Gombert and 37 Peter. I suspect that these two families might connect, but I have not found the connection yet.

I also edit a small family newsletter to keep Gombert families members in touch and abrest of the research. Please let me know if you are interested in receiving a copy.

Welcome to the Gombert GenConnect board. I have set this up for Gombert reserchers to exchange information.

My name is Richard Gombert, I am researching the surname Gombert. I started out by helping my father reseach his family. After he passed away I inherited the whole shebang.

At one point I started mailing letters to anyone with the surname. I received several responses, but none that looked like they were my family. Fortunately I did save the information.

After several years I had expanded my knowledge of the family and had found out that several of the letters I had received earlier WERE from distand cousins.

This was several years ago. Since that revelation I have been collecting information on all the Gombert. Currently I have about 40 different families. These range from one or two people to thousands of people. I have even connected several different researchers together.

Please, post any Gombert information that you might have. I will compare it with mine.

I will be alerting all the other Gombert researchers that this has been set up and hopefully more connections will be made.
