Hi, I am a descendent of Johann Christain GAST b. 23 Apr 1726 in Odenwald, Wurttemburg, Germany. I have much the same information you posted, plus a lot of information on the Gasts of Ohio. My grandmother was Beatrice GAST from the Gasts in Delaware Co. and Union Co. But my gg-grandfather, Samuel GAST and Elizabeth (LANDON) GAST died in Prospect, Marion Co. OH. I have a reunion booklet from 1931 with the family history in it. I also have a book completed by Ruth Woffinger on GAST Family History. It has a lot of information on more current GASTs.

Much of what I have on my later GASTs is from research done by my cousin, Rick HUGHES, which includes: Ruth WOLFINGER's book: "The GAST Family 1726-1998". The earlier ones are from Records Of Pastoral Acts at Christ Lutheran Church, Stouchburg, Marion Twp. Berks Co. Pennsylvania". All my sources are listed on my WorldConnect site. http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=paroth

Nice to meet you.

Paul,

Your 7g-grandmother's name was Anna Catherine KNIPE, b. 15 Nov 1771 and died 11 Oct 1863 in Rebersburg, Centre County, PA.

Now my line is:
me
parents: Richard and Anna SINGLETON LAMSON
grandparents: Virgil and Beatrice GAST LAMSON
2gr: Elmer E. and Esther CREAGER GAST
3gr: Samuel and Elizabeth LANDON GAST
4gr: Johannes (John) and Margaret MEYE GAST
5gr: Johann Christian and Margareth BORAH/BORAS GAST
6gr: Johann Christian,Sr and Christina Anna BRANDT GAST

You will find me in Ruth's book. She is the one who hooked my Elmer to the correct father of the GAST family. My grandmother never knew how they connected. I have since found census records that confirm everything Ruth gave me. I also have two copies from pages in two Bibles helping me connect to this family.

Thanks Nancy,

I'll alert my cousin, Rick HUGHES, who did all our GAST research.

One of my sisters-in-law's maiden name is SINGLETON. I think that her father, Norman, was from New Bedford, MASS.

Regards,
Paul

I am looking for info on Gast family in Iowa. Specifically in Grandview. Frederick, son Herman and wife Emilia Roaina Maria (stock) gast. immigrated from germany abt. 1850 to NY and then off to Iowa. Father in germany was christian gast. Mother was possibly mary bishop? Do any of these sound familiar?

Hi LeeAnna,

I have about 8 Christian GASTs, but I don't have any BISHOPs or STOCKs in my GAST line.

My GASTs entered Philadelphia, PA from Rotterdam on the ship "Neptune". They then settled in Tulpehocken, Berks Co. PA. From there they spread out to Blair, Centre, Dauphin, Huntingdon, Lancaster & Northumberland Counties in PA. The majority of the ones I have settled later in Prospect Co. OH. though some of them moved to Le Claire, Scott Co. IA.

Regards,
Paul

I am a decendant of Frederick V. and Amelia Rosina (Stock/Stoke) Gast. Although I am from CA, I spent yesterday attending their, and decendants graves in Grandview, IA. Are we related? If so, I don't know much more further than their parents names.

Hello Nancy,
I'm new to this, and given the age of your message, you may have already discovered the following, but I am a descendent of John Nicholas Gast, b. April 21, 1760, who was a son of Johann Christian Gast, b. April 23, 1726 in Odenwald, Germany. Johann Christian Gast was a brother of Mr. Roth's Johann Nicholas Gast b c1724 and they were sons of John Adam Gast, b c1694. Both brothers arrived aboard the ship "Neptune", according to my family records. Also according to my family records, Catherine Knipe b. Nov 1771, was wife of my 3-ggrandfather John Nicholas Gast, b. April 21, 1760. John Nicholas was a nephew of Johann Nicholas and thus would not be in Mr. Roth's direct lineage.
