Hello, Paul.
I'm new to this, so please excuse me if my protocols are incorrect. I am a descendent of John Nicholas
Gast, b. April 21, 1760, who was a son of
Johann Christian
Gast, b. April 23, 1726 in
Odenwald, Germany. Johann Christian
Gast was a brother of your
Johann Nicholas
Gast b c1724 and they were sons of John Adam
Gast, b c1694. Both brothers arrived aboard the ship "
Neptune", according to my family records. Also according to my family records, Catherine
Knipe b. Nov 1771, was wife of my 3-ggrandfather John Nicholis [Nicholas]
Gast, b. April 21, 1760. John Nicholas was a nephew of
Johann Nicholas and thus would not be in your direct lineage.
Of additional interest to you may be a piece from my family history that indicates John
Garman may have been Maria Catherine Gast's second husband. I say "may" because the sister of
Johann Nicholas and
Johann Christian is unnamed. According to my history, "a sister had arrived earlier [than the two brothers], settling in
Berks County, where she married a Henry
Shaffer. She was captured by the Indians and was a prisoner for two years. Her husband was killed at the time of her capture. She later married a Tom
Garman and was no longer heard from."
Regards,
Bill
