My great great grandfather was Edward Harrison Gast of Gainesville, Alabama. He was born in Ireland and and was married to Ellen Sharan. On the back of his tombstone was an inscription that reads, "Pierre du Gast - sieur de Monts - viceroy to King of France to New France 1603. Does anyone have a connection to this man? Please email me with any info.

Hi,

I am also looking for a Gast relative, Rosa Belle Gast born around 1870, married to a Sam Jacob Carroll. I had seen the info about your Gasts on the board here, and started doing some research. Most websites concerning Pierre du Gast are Canadian or French. I went to a site, I think it was Geneanet, and was able to find his family tree. It was in French, but from what I could make out, he was childless. It did show him having a sister. Your ancestor may have come from an unrecorded brother or other close relative.

HI Donna,
First of all, thanks for your reply. I would like to know where I can find Pierre's line.
My Gast line had a Belle Gast, but I think this one married an Oswalt. I really don't have much info on the Gasts except that the imigrated from Ireland, son William died at Gettysburg and the inscription on the back of my gggrandfather's tombstone regarding Pierre's nobility.
Does any of this fit with your Gasts?

Phyllis

Hi i'm Luc dugas and i'm from gaspé peninsula in quebec. From what I know there was also a Abraham Du Gast That lived in acadie (new Brunswick and nova scotia) And it semmed that Pierre discovered acadie. So I think that is origins are from france and you might get a lot of info on sites from acadie. But in 1755 all records from acadie where losted or destroyed by english during the deportation.
Hope this will help you
