Forbes, 78, Lone Tree, died Sunday, June 8, 2003, at his residence from a prolonged pulmonary illness.
Services are 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home, Lone Tree. The Rev. Dr. Richard Johnson will officiate. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery. Following the burial, a luncheon will be held at the United Presbyterian Church.
Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Lone Tree Senior Dining or Lone Tree First Responders.
Mr. Forbes was born May 2, 1925, in Lone Tree, the son of Vernie and Ida M. Nelson
Forbes. He married Gladys M. Idle, May 11, 1948, in
Iowa City.
He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church. For many years he was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose. He was a lifetime farmer and he spent many years helping out with 4-H and FFA projects. When he could, he always went deer hunting.
He and his wife were able to celebrate their 55th wedding anniversary.
He was a sports fan and enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and the Hawkeyes, plus his grandchildren's games. He liked to watch birds and squirrels. He enjoyed all of his family, especially his grandchildren.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Dennis W. Forbes and wife Julie of Lone Tree, Daryl D. Forbes and wife Doreen of Biggsville, Ill., and Donald R. Forbes and wife Johnna of Lone Tree; two brothers,
Lyle Forbes of Lone Tree and Warren H. Forbes of West Liberty; one sister, Florence Rath of Riverside; and four grandchildren, Chad and Amy
Forbes, both of
Illinois, and
Hailey Forbes and Jordan Burk, both of Lone Tree.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Brookhart and Beulah Boyd; and three brothers,
Daris, Lester and James
Forbes.

She was a homemaker.
She was a member of the Rebecca's and the Fremont Homemakers. She enjoyed her flower and vegetable garden and spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren.

Forbes, 72, Anytown, USA, formerly of Lone Tree, died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004, at the Albert
LEA Medical Center, Albert
LEA.
Services are 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 4, at the Lone Tree American Legion. The Rev. Terry Digmann will officiate. Military rites will be provided by the Lone Tree American Legion Post 457. After the military rites, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion.
Private family visitation will be held on Tuesday, Aug. 3. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home. The Sorden-Lewis Funeral Home, Lone Tree, is handling the arrangements.
Mr. Forbes was born Sept. 23, 1931, in rural Lone Tree, the son of Elmer Wilson and Martha Oberman
Forbes. He married Mary Lou Mills on Oct. 24, 1953, in
Nichols.
He was a 1951 graduate of Lone Tree High School. After graduation, he served with the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict.
He trucked for Hanks Trucking, Jones, Harriett and Stevens Sand and Gravel and Fuel Oil in
Iowa City, Farm and Fleet out of Muscatine and
Iowa City and then Ace Line Inc. Trucking out of Des Moines.
He was a member of the John L. Mumm American Legion Post 457 in Lone Tree and was a past member of the
Iowa City Moose. He dearly enjoyed spending time traveling across the United States and camping with the Good Sam's Camping Club where he served as ambassador.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Terry
Forbes and wife, Annette, and Glen
Forbes and wife, Kathleen, all of Lone Tree; two daughters, Deb Ford of
Nichols and Tammy Digmann and husband, Terry, of Anamosa; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Louise Meerdink and husband, John, of Muscatine.
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Simpson Memorial Home in West
LIBERTY.
Funeral
Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 2008, at the
Cedar Valley United Methodist Church, rural West
LIBERTY. Burial will be in Oak Ridge Cemetery, West
LIBERTY.
Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, March 6, 2008, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home, West
LIBERTY. A memorial fund has been established.
Mr. Forbes was born August 4, 1923, west of Conesville, the son of Ida Heath and Vernie
Forbes, the seventh of nine children.
He attended Big Springs Country School near Conesville through the eighth grade. He farmed with his dad until he married Viola Krotz on November 25, 1942, in
Iowa City. She preceded him in death.
He was a hired man, and they rented farms in the Conesville area until 1961 when they moved to West
LIBERTY.
They continued farming in the area until 1976 when Warren retired from farming, moved to town, and began a job at the West
LIBERTY High School as a janitor. He worked at the school for 10 years and retired in 1987. He became a resident at the
Simpson Memorial Home in September 2006.
He was a member of the
Cedar Valley United Methodist Church. He enjoyed his many years farming, especially raising livestock. He also liked playing cards, gardening and spending time with his family.
He is survived by two sons, Larry of
Cedar Rapids, Duane and wife, Jean, of West Liberty; one daughter, Reta
Callahan and husband, Don, of Dysart; eight grandchildren, Lynnette Ragatz, Melissa

Iowa City, following an extended illness.

He was a graduate of Lone Tree High School.

Westfall July 21, 1973, in
Iowa City. They later divorced.
He was a farmer and a past member of the West
LIBERTY Jaycees.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and collecting antiques.
He will be deeply missed by his son, Todd A. Forbes and his wife, Shelly, of Riverside; two daughters, Michelle D. Daufeldt and her husband, Matt, of West
LIBERTY and Nicole B. Forbes of West Liberty; five grandchildren,
Hailey, Spencer, Macy, Tanner and Taylor; his parents; a brother, Kevin
Forbes and his wife, Lisa; and a sister, Gwen

Allene Florence
Buster was born May 20, 1921, in Grandview, the daughter of Glen Kelly and Irma Clara Schafer
Buster.
Allene received her teacher’s certificate and taught all eight grades of school. On June 25, 1941, Allene was united in marriage to Lester
LaVerne Forbes in Kahoka, Missouri. Allene was a member of the St. Mark’s Methodist Church in
Iowa City and enjoyed fishing, gardening, country music and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.

Iowa Hospital surrounded by his family following a brief illness.
Funeral
Service will be 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Lone Tree American Legion. Russ
Forbes will officiate. Burial will be at the Lone Tree Cemetery with military honors by the Lone Tree American Legion Post No. 457. Following the interment, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Lone Tree American Legion.
Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 12, 2009, at the Lone Tree American Legion. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established at the funeral home in memory of Bob. The Sorden-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services of Lone Tree is handling the arrangements for the
Forbes family.
Robert
Forbes was born October 9, 1948, in
Iowa City, the son of Lawrence and Evelyn Curtis
Forbes.
He was a 1966 graduate of Lone Tree High School.
In 1968, he married Janet Thomas and they later divorced. He married Maria Dalton on May 1, 1980, in Lone Tree.
He proudly served his country from 1968-2008 in the United States
Army and
Army National Guard, serving during Vietnam and Desert Storm.
He was currently working as the Water Treatment Plant Operator for the city of
Iowa City and had previously worked for the city of Lone Tree for 12 years.
He was a member of the Lone Tree Fire and Rescue since 1983, the Lone Tree American Legion Post No. 457 since 1972 and dearly loved to fish and bowl. .
He will be deeply missed by his wife, Maria
