Hi Folks, I am trying to make contact with any living descendants of Patrick Flanigan/Flanagan who moved to Australia from Scotland in 1886.
His parents were John Flanaghan and Catherine Duggan both
born in Ireland and Patrick Married Johanna Tobin, from Ireland in Brisbane, Queensland in 1889.

The couple had 5 sons

One son died in 1969

The last one I know of remains in some doubt due to the mother’s first name spelling

Place SYDNEY (If this was Patrick and Johannah’s son he would be aged 32 years old)

The father Patrick is thought to be listed in the following entry and I have yet to receive his death certificate

Death 12245/1904 PATRICK T FLANAGAN parents first names JOHN and CATHERINE
Place ARMIDALE, NSW, Australia (this would give him a possible age of 42 years when he died)

As the sons of Patrick and Johanna would have been quite young when their father died I doubt if they would known too much about their father’s family so it is my hope I can share my findings with any of their descendants. Kindest Regards, Paddy Duggan.

I have nothing aditional on him. All the later census reports state he was born in Virginia. The census on him does not say where parents were from. I have no information on when he left Virginia or where he had been prior to his marriage in Missouri. Sorry I can't be of help.

Do you know what county he was born in? Just wondering if he was related to my Beverly Flanagan. He was born in NC abt 1822 but lived in Henry Co VA. He had brothers Burwell & Alexander, but I can't find their parents.

I'm looking for information on "JN" Flanagan, John N Flanagan, born in Virginia in 1818. He died on 18 Nov 1877 and is buried at the Masonic Military Cemetery in Metropolis, Illinois. He was married to Sophia J. Martin of Howard Co. Missouri in 1843. Her obituary says she was related to Kit Carson. Their marriage is the earliest record I have found on him. They moved to Crittenten, Kentucky and then to Metropolis. I have not been able to trace him back to Virginia or locate any information on his parents.

Looks like you have more info then me.I have a copy of our grans birth certificate and found her sister and mothers place of burial.I have done the Malone/Farmer side but need to fill in the big gaps on our grandmothers side. Mary-Anne Flannigan was my Grandmother, she was born in Glasgow, the District of Milton, Scotland. Birth date is 28th March 1898. She was married twice and had three daughters. There names are Pera, Colleen and Julia. Her mother (Anne McKenzie) and sister(Margaret) all came to New Zealand. Margaret Flannigan married George Harold Knaggs in New Zealand. I have been trying to find information about my grandmothers family for some time and spotted your question.

In my family tree I have John Flanagan m. Matilda Gallaway, and they had a son named Davis James. Possibly his correct name is James David? As I have Euphemia Cook as his second wife. First wife Margaret Cook (Euphemia's sister). I have quite abit of information on the decedents of David James (or James David?) Would you be interested in this information? Who was your John Bernard's wife? Who was your Michael Patrick's wife? What county of Ireland were they or their parents from?

My great grandparents Bernard (James) Flanagan and Bridget (Kilroy) Flanagan had 9 children, 6 of whom lived to adulthood. They were from County Mayo, Charlestown area, and each emigrated (separately) to Phila around 1890.

One son was John (b 1910ish) but I don't know his middle name or his wife's name. He was a painter, had 3 children. John died sometime after 1970 I think, and was buried at Holy Sepulchre.

Another son was Michael, married to a Nancy or Anna, had 4 children. Don't know where he was buried.

I live in Philly and my grand-father, John Bernard Flanagan is buried there at Holy Seph. His father, Michael Patrick Flanagan who came from Ireland is buried at St. John the Baptist cemetery in the Manayunk section of Philadelphia.

MUSCATINE, Iowa -- Patrick M. Flanagan, 66, Muscatine died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at the Genesis East Medical Center in Davenport.

Services are 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Funeral Home. The Rev. Dan Schoepf of Calvary Church is officiating. Pallbearers are David Flanagan, Jeff Flanagan, Matt Lick, Zachory Bierman, Patrick Kent and Jim White. Burial will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Flanagan was born on April 26, 1936, in Richardville, the son of Peter J. and Florence Roussel Flanagan. He was a graduate of Lorac Academy High School. He married Judith Ann Pusateri in 1958 in Dubuque and later married Barbara Jean Brase-Lick on May 14, 1981, in Muscatine.

He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Muscatine Moose Lodge, Muscatine Power Boat Club, N.R.A., Coast Guard Association and the Gun Club of Davenport.

He enjoyed music and played in a band. He also enjoyed model trains, remote control airplanes, woodworking and astronomy.

He was a supply Sgt. for the National Guard and a farmer in the Richardville area, moving to the Muscatine in 1966 to become a corporate pilot for G.P.C. and later a photographer for Kent Feeds.

Survivors include his wife Barbara; two sons, Michael and his wife, Laura, of Ackley, and Sean and his wife, Mary, of Boston, Mass.; two daughters, Laura Kent of Loganville, Ga. and Eve Bermel and her husband, Blaine, of Muscatine; two step sons, Steve Lick and his wife, Marla, of Muscatine and Scott Bierman and his wife, Cindy, of New Boston, Ill.; three step daughters, Lori Boyd of Boulder, Colo., Lynne McLarney and her husband, Justin, of Prescott Valley, Ariz., and Robyn Gilbert and her husband, Alan, of Muscatine; ten grandchildren, 13 step grandchildren and three great step grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, John Flanagan.

I am Anne Marie Flanagan and I too am a decendant of Jeremiah and Molly Flanagan. My grandfather was their son Edward J. Flanagan Sr.(b.1905, d.1982)and my father was Edward Joseph Flanagan Jr. (b.1940, d.1984)[He was known to the family as "Little Eddie"]. I also have two younger brothers, Edward Joseph Flanagan III (E.J.), and Paul Gerard Flanagan.
I now have three children of my own and they have been asking about the family, who we are, where we come from, etc... They find it humorous when they ask how many of us there are and I give them the answer "too many to count"! Any information would be helpful. Thanks!

Hi there. I'm seeking to find out who Isaac Flanagan's parents were. I want to see how far back the Flanagan's go in the US.
He was born in New Jersey in 1808 (I think) then moved to Phildelphia PA, married a Bridget Kelly they had children, Samuel Flanagan, Mary Ellen Flanagan who died young.

Hello, my name is Judy Flanagan, I just started on this website and was reading the posts and this really struck me as familiar,everything written in this post..I know it was posted in 2001 but hopefully you are still a member of this site.
My great great grandfather was Samuel Flanagan and his wife was Mary and they resided in Philadelphia they had a lot of children, Eleanor, Samuel, Mary etc, Joseph Flanagan is my Grandfather and Judith is his wife.
I recognized the lastname Flint as you were at Elwood Flanagan's funeral some years ago I think, I was there as well.

I would definitely be interested in knowing if your Flanagans were originally from Charlestown, Mayo... section of town known as Lowpark. If so, we would certainly be related.

To your point, my Flanagans lived in the Nicetown section of Phila!

Great grandfather Bernard emigrated here in 1888, age 28 at the time. He and wife Bridget had about 10 children. They were members of St Stephen's RC Church.

His father James was a carpenter or wheel-wright.

I don't know how much history my father has on his family but I will check it out. I know whenever it came up he said his "Flanagan" side had been here "since the Indians".
My Father was born in 1943 - His Grandfather and Great Grandfather were both born in Philadelphia. Which goes back to 1860's. (he believes the generation before that was also born here which places them here before the potato famine refugees). I remember my grandfather used to get furious with IRISH jokes being directed at him and he'd always say his family laid the cobblestones Ben Franklin walked on.
He does know there was a lot of family from the Philadelphia area but there was some sort of rift in the family because of a religious feud (someone married a non-catholic and their family was cut off from the rest). He knows he had relatives from the Nicetown section of the city that they did not know.
I do know there is a huge group on that side of our family because every time we go somewhere we run into a distant cousin of my father's. I will check with him and get back to you.
My grandfather, Joseph, had four siblings - Phil, John (was a priest with a Mexican Missionary order), Frank, and His sister was Jean. His father was named Phil.

We might be related somehow. Where were your grandfather's ancestors from? What were their names?

My great great grandfather James Flanagan Sr (b 1844, d 1907), buried in Holy Sepulchre with his wife Margaret (Coleman) Flanagan, was from Charlestown, County Mayo. They emigrated to Philadelphia around 1895.

Their son Bernard Flanagan (my great grandfather) and his wife Bridget (Kilroy) Flanagan are also buried there, as well as many of Bernie's children and grandchildren.

I think Bernie had brothers here too, but I'm not familiar with their names. Could your Joseph Flanagan be related to my Bernie??

Both of my grandparents are Buried there and I believe other members of my grandfather's family.
My Grandfather was Joseph Flanagan married to Ethel Flanagan (I forget her maiden name)
The Flanagan's I know from our family who are buried there are:

There are probably many more Flanagan's their if you factor in the Flanagan women who married and changed their names.

You could look up the 1901 census online at www.leitrim-roscommon.com for Flanagans and see if you can narrow down the family to a certain area. There will be lots of them but it could be a starting point.

I am looking for my grandfather. All I have is the above and nothing else. I know he was married to my Grandmother Salome Alicia De Freze, no date of marriage. They had 4 children, Francis Alaysios Flanagan, George Patrick Flanagan, twins born Feb. 4, 1944, then there was Sallyann Flanagan, b. Jan 12, 1946, then Elanor May Flanagan, b June 25, 1947. I know Elanor has passed already and another son Ronald has passed. My grandmother was married once before this one to a Joseph J. Sinople and had three children with him, which is William Emmett De Freze, b. 1933, Edward James De Freze, then Ronald Jack De Freze, d. 1981.
