I too am researching a flanagan line from Sligo, Ireland. I am researching Peter who passed away on 7/2/1890, a resident of Smithville at the time. He married a Seragh McNenamy. One of their children was baptized at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Binghamton, NY on 5/19/1850, born 2/25/1850. Another daughter, Elizabeth Flanagan, was my great grandmother. Maybe it's the same flanagan clan?

My grandmother was Winifred Flanagan, born ca. 1850, County Galway. I have located a cousin in Spurtown/Ballymote,County Sligo: Philomena Deehan, whose grandmother was Winifred Flanagan, but not the same Winifred Flanagan as my grandmother. I am new to genealogy and do not have a lot of information, but I do know that the Flanagans of County Galway are related to Daly (or Daily) maybe of County Cork. I have also located a Maureen Flanagan in Newtowndaly, County Galway, who is related to my grandmother, Winifred Flanagan. Maureen was married to a Flanagan and has several male children. I saw the cottage where my grandmother was born.

My grandfather Lt. John F. Flanagan, NYC Fire Department - born/died NYC 1873/1944 traced his roots to Sligo. Buried with him are Mary 1839/1906 and Thomas 1869/1899 and Margaret Leith Flanagan 1882/1932 born in Ireland - Donegaul. Please let me know if you come across a connection. Thanks

I am searching for information on Flanagan's from Galway.
My Great Great Grandparents were from Galway but I do not have their names. One of their children (my gr-grandmother-name unknown) married into the COULSON family and they had a daughter, ANNE OLIVE who married JOHN MURRAY in England. They had many children. So-ANNE OLIVE COULSON was born of a female FLANAGAN. If any of these names connect, please contact me.
Thanks,
Heidi

Hi Jim,
My mother (Bridget) was a Flanagan before she married, and she came from Ballymote. I'm not sure if there are any Flanagan's of her family left in Ireland now as most either died or left. When we go back now none of the relatives we stay with are called Flanagan
Family connections I am aware of are to Luby, Gallagher and Muldoon (but that was a male Flanagan marrying a female Muldoon so there should not be a direct link that way between the two families).
There are links to Glasgow as a few of them went to work in the shipyards, I think that was between the wars, but I didn't think anyof them stayed, I thought they all returned to Ireland or went to England.
I have some notes at home and I'll dig them out and get back to you.

Hello Angela,
Sorry it has taken this long to get back to you. Life has been a bit wild here lately.
Anyway, wanted to thank you for replying to my msg. and found your info. very interesting. There are so many similarities in our backgrounds that I think perhaps we might have a family connection. The names Maria, Patrick, Flanagan and Murray all come into play in my research and, believe it or not, my father was born in Manchester. Of course, the Ireland connection comes into play here too. There must be some connection. Now, if only I can find it!
Our home burned partially down recently so my paperwork is scattered, but when I get back home and get things sorted, will look further and email you again if that is alright.
It might take awhile, as my husband was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma just weeks ago and we are busy with treatments etc. I have very little info. that might be useful to you in your research unfortunately. If I can be of help, let me know.
Best regards,
Heidi Murray Lutey

Hi,
I am a Flanagan and my father James Flanagan comes from Ballymote and he has two brothers: Joseph and John and a sister Geraldine who married a Gormley. There was another brother called Colm but he died years ago. My granny is in her 70's and is still alive, living in Marren Park, Ballymote. My grandfather was also called James (died in 1969) and so was his father. They are both burried in the newer cemetery in Ballymote along with my uncle Colm and my great grandmother. I have been to Ballymote about 6 times. I wonder if we are related. I know that my grandfather had a sister. I think her name was mary.
