Hi.
My father is called James Flanagan and he is origionaly from Ballymote, Co. Sligo. His father was also called James Flanagan and so was his grandfather (my great grandfather). I know that my grandfather had a sister and I'm pretty sure her name was Mary. I think they had a fall out years ago. I actually have a tiny photo of her. It looks like it was taken in the 40's / 50's and her hair is dark. I will have to double check with my dad but I'm pretty sure her name was Mary. My father has a sister called Geraldine who married a Gormley and two brothers, John and Joseph. There was also another brother but he died years ago. Members of the family are burried in Ballymote cemetary.

Hello, my greatgrandfather Peter Flanagan was born in County Sligo in August 1858. He had a brother named Edward. They both moved to Lowell Massachusetts around 1879. His parents were John and Catherine(?). Does this help you at all? I'm looking for the actual village they came from.

Thanks,

Hello, the Peter Flanagan of Sligo I am researching was born in 1858 and had a brother named Edward. They both moved to Lowell Massachusetts about November 1879. Their parents were John and Catherine.

Peter married Jane Gray in 1889 in Lowell. If you run across this Peter while researching your Peter, please drop me a note.

I'm planning on taking my mother on a trip to the actual village or town the Flanagans came from once I find it.

Thank You,
Mark Avey

I'm a descendent of James Flanagan, who we think left Co. Leitrim in the early 1800's and settle on the slopes of Benbulbin in the township of Keilty. He married of Honera McGoldrick of Rosses Point. They had 9 children including my great-grandfather, Michael (born 1821) and Terrance (born 1821). Terrance left for America (we think, New York)and Michael had 7 children including, my grandfather, Thomas who was Mayor of Sligo and Patrick Joesph Flanagan who was also Mayor of Sligo.
