My gggrandfather William Golden was born 7 Jan 1823 in Ohio. He married Lydia Dunham on 7 Nov. 1837 in Erie, Ohio. One of their children was my ggrandfather, Guy Vance Golden. My information is from family Bible. I have no other info on Lydia. Can someone help?

Wm. N. GOLDEN m. 1848? OH, Lydia DUNHAM.

I suspect that somewhere along the line, the marriage date was copied incorrectly. If Wm. was b. 1823, he was fourteen in 1837, & if Lydia was 47 in 1880, she was four in 1837. The FamilySearch database of the 1880 Census has in Cheyenne, Barton, KS: GOLDEN, W. N., 57, PA OH OH; wf. Lydia, 47, OH NY NY; ch. b. OH: Ida CLEVELAND, wid., 22; Fredrick, 17; Cora, 12; son b. KS, Vance, 3; grandson Harry CLEVELAND, 9 mos., KS.

RootsWeb WorldConnect: William Nyce GOLDEN (7 Jan. 1823 - 19 Aug. 1900) served in Co. H, 139 OH Infantry, m. 7 Nov. 1848? OH, Lydia DUNHAM, & had

Monroe, b. 22 D 1849
Eugene, b. 17 Mar. 1852
Frances Jane, b. 24 D 1853
Rosa Emma, b. 3 D 1855
Margarita Edith, b. 24 N 1857 [Ida, m. CLEVELAND?]
Fredk. Tucker, b. 1 D 1862
Sam Smith, b. 16 S 1864
Cora May / Claudy Maud?, b. 31 D 1867, Dover Twp., Fulton Co., OH; m. 30 D 188_, Puyallup, Pierce, WA, Geo. B. AKIN, b. 1 Apr. 1856, Byron, Shiaw., MI.
Guy Vance (12 Aug. 1876, Barton Co., KS - 29 N 1917, Eatonville, Pierce, WA) m. 29 S 1897, Pierce, WA, Dianna Frances MILLISON, b. 22 May 1881, Cumb. Co., MD.

In 1880, Beaver, Barton Co., KS: James DUNHAM, 32; wf. Sarah J., 28; son Lewis, 7, & dau. Rachel, 5; all b. OH.

The GOLDEN side is traced far back on WorldConnect. William was of Margaretta, Erie Co., OH, 1850, only heads of household on WorldConnect index.

USGenWeb > OH > Erie County: Census of 1850, #56. Silas F. DUNHAM, b. ca. 1810; Andromeda, b. ca. 1812; ch. Edwin R., Eldron, Ellen, & Elnora. With such a rare name for Ohio, that must be Andromeda BENTLEY, who m. 29 D 1836, Huron Co., OH, Silas F. DUNHAM, s/o Aaron DUNHAM, b. ca. 1785, VT, & Mehetable WOOD. Aaron also had John M. DUNHAM, b. ca. 1822, Marcellus, NY, m. Deb. A. McCloud Van WINKLE. In Roxand, Eaton, MI, 1880: DUNHAM, John M., 58, NY MA MA; wf. Debora, 52, MI NY NY; ch. b. MI; Carlie 22; Silas E., 17; Geo. B., 13; Rosa B., 10. [Who knows? Aaron was supposedly b. VT, but John's parents b. MA?] Silas F. DUNHAM supposedly died in 1878, MI [RootsWeb].

A quick search of Huron Co., OH, showed Martin KELLOGG of Bronson Twp., Huron Co., OH, s/o Lucy DUNHAM & Martin KELLOGG. Martin, Jr., b. 1786, Bethel, VT, supposedly died in 1892, aged nearly 106. RootsWeb Family Trees has more. Lucy was of Thomas of Micajah, back to John of Plymouth Colony, if you believe the chart, which doesn't have the right birth place for the immigrant.

The children of Silas F. DUNHAM are listed online as b. Erie Co., NY, but I think it should be Erie Co., OH. Have you checked the 1850 Census, Florence Twp., Erie Co., OH?

Thanks for your response! I have the Golden line back to the 1600's, but I still can't find anything on Lydia Dunham other than her marriage to William Nyce Golden. I've looked up many Dunhams in Ohio, but none list a Lydia. I'm beginning to think perhaps she was born somewhere else and traveled to Ohio to marry Mr. Golden. So I'm at a stalemate on the Dunham line.

Wm. N. GOLDEN m. 1848? OH, Lydia DUNHAM.

If Lydia was married in 1848 at a very young age (ca. fifteen if you believe the age on the 1880 census), it's most likely that she was related to one of the families living in the vicinity. Which other DUNHAM families have you found in the area?

I don't have Lydia's exact birthdate, but her youngest son, my GGrandfather, was born in 1876, many years after their other children, so she may have been quite young when she married. I can't afford Ancestry.com, so I haven't been able to access complete census records. I have found the following:
1850 Census, Florence Tp, Erie Co., OH--Silas and Andromeda Dunham, born 1810 & 1812, children Edwin, Eldron, Ellen, Elnora. Since they seem to have an "E" thing going, it's not likely they are Lydia's parents.
1880 Census, Groton Tp, Erie Co. OH -- Ralph & Alice Dunham- o.p.4, n.p. 94 and o.p.5, n.p.38A.
1880 Census, Margaretta Tp, Erie Co. OH-- Dunham, Ahab o.p.31 n.p.94C; Enoch Dunham, o.p.38 n.p.97B.
Marriage Records Erie Co, OH 1815 thru 1838--
Dunham, Davis to Anna Widner 23 Jan. 1817
Dunham, Jonathan to Margaret McNutt 29 June 1826
Dunham, Jonathan to Laura A. Allber 8 Mar. 1835.
Any of these could be her parents.
William N. Golden and Lydia Dunham were married in Erie Co, OH; but their youngest son Guy was born in Barton, KS, in 1876--I'm not sure when they moved.
I really appreciate you taking the time to help me with the Dunham family--thanks so much!

Thanks for the info! I didn't realize that William & Lydia had moved out here to Washington. Now I can request death certificates and see if any parents of Lydia are listed. And my family info had listed William as born in OH, so now I can look for him in PA.
I notice your name is Dunham--are you related to Lydia? I'm having a dickens of a time finding her family
Thanks again!
