I only recently located my DuBois family line. I had always wondered about my great grandfather's middle name. I decided to once more look at his line and discovered that the line went back to Seigneur de Beaufermez on the DuBois line. I had heard that someone on this site on another was able to research back to 815 AD. I can tell you that if Peter DuBois is in your line, he had served in the Revolutionary War as a lieutenant to George Washington, and also help to start a town in New Jersey

A book has been written and will be published very shortly by the Office Généalogique et Héraldique de Belgique about the du Bois family. It appears from it that the roots of the Belgian du Bois do not originate from France, nor have any connection with later generations of du Bois, either in France or in the USA as first thought. Indeed " our " du Bois came from what is today Belgium and their original name was Flemish ( van den Bosch ), later translated in French into " du Bois ".

I am related to the Louis line he had a bros jaques that you mentioned.Their father was Chretien beyond Chrietien can't be substaniated. There is a DuBois family organization on the web. It is that family that you and I are related to. My line goes like this.

Thank you for your comments. The info you gave me corresponds to what I already had, but it appears that my family, despite the similarity of first names, does not have the same origin. A book published 2 years ago by l'Association Royale, Office Généalogique et Héraldique de Belgique, states that the belief of identical origin is erroneous. This book deals with the 3 noble branches of my family, which may be traced in the early 1500's in the Flemish part of what is presently Belgium. At that time the name was Van Den Bosch ( Du Bois in French, or Of the Wood in English ), soon translated into French Du Bois, and then Du Bois.

Jacques: Are you the guy who sent me an e-mail with an AOL address. If so, let me know, because my attempted reply was bounced back to me as a nonexistant address. Have you contacted your relatives in Brussels? Do you know about Kino's personal history in Canada? There is to me some mystery why Kino came to northern Manitoba and did not move back to Belgium. You obviously read my Addendum web page on the issue, unless somebody else spoofed your address! I have talked to people who knew Kino but I never met him myself. He was truly a character in local history.
