Anyone have info on the following Dubois/Woods prior to 1911 (sorry for the length):
Mary (everyone called her Stella) was the oldest and then there was Albert,
Blanche (married
Lucien Pilon,
Syracuse, N.Y later
Arizona), Loretta (married Joseph
Quinn,
Cardinal), and Maurice (married Anita Kenville). The obit of Joseph
Dubois (
Woods) gives his children's names as
Dubois with
Woods in brackets. I believe my grandmother had a hard time getting a birth certificate for when she reached pension time because of the name issue. The obituary I have is hard to read - here's some details from it: J. Dubois (
Woods), died suddenly of a stroke; he stayed at his home for a long time at 16
Maple Ave. He died on a Sunday at Hotel
Dieu Hospital,
Cornwall. It says he "was better known in
Cornwall as Joseph
Woods", born in Longueil, Quebec 77 yrs ago - I think the date of his death is Aug. 1956 or 57. It also says he is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
Dubois (my mom always thought he was an orphan and his wedding certificate gave different names). The obit also says he "was the last survivor of his original family". The obit goes on to say that he came to
Cornwall "50 yrs ago".
Rose
Delima Boyer was only married once but Joseph's marriage to
Delima was his second. This was not generally known in the family until Auntie Anita, Joseph's son Maurice's wife, let it out. No one knows who she was or where she was from. A whole chunk of Joseph's life is missing for us - from birth until the 1911 Census in
Cornwall and his ensuing marriage to
Delima Boyer. On his marriage licence, Joseph states his parents as
Magloire Woods (deceased) and Genvieve Battineau (deceased). He is a man of mystery and I would love help solving this puzzle!
