I am just curious if anyone believes the ancestry line for Louis Du Bois back to Charlemagne in the book
Duke/Shepherd/Van Metre?

It's listed on page 23 in the book

I would like to believe it. It makes a great story. However I want other documentation. One source is never good enough for me.

The DuBose Society is supposed to have great records, however I have not had the time to investigate. Maybe someone else has.

I think that just about every noble family in Western Europe claims Charlemagne (or Karl der Grosse) among their many ancestors. Given the time that has passed and the limited size of the breeding pool (don't marry below your station), they are probably right whether or not it is the particular path they claim. Since there was a lot of "give the folks what they are paying for" research done by supposed genealogists, I am skeptical of any specific claim that that isn't backed up by more than one source.

my family tree goes back to Chreitien du Bois, he had a son Louis du Bois and on and on. before Chrietien is not substantiated. there is a du Bois family org. Most of the family settled in New Paltz, NY
