Sorry, I did make a mistake in refering to Sarah Howe, it was Lydia that I found on the death certificates.

I have been trying to sort out the St. Joseph Co., Drakes for 40 years. How fortunate for you to have had your grandfather to help you. I am a descendant of some of the Drakes in St. Joseph county, perhaps unrelated, but I am searching for any and all data to sort them out.... I would love to receive any documentation you might have and will be glad to reciprocate.
Thank-you for responding so quickly.
Judith Weeks Ancell
jancell@spro.net

Most of my research was done almost 50 years ago when I was still in Highschool, with the help of my grandfather Jasper N. Drake, but I have comfermed all of it throught birth, death, and marriage records. I have an Abraham Drake born March 15, 1767 and died Feb. 25, 1843 who was married to a Lydia Howe in August 23, 1792 in Ipswish, Essex, Mass. But not a Sarah Howe. If I can help you with any of what I have feel free to ask. I don't mind sharing my information if you want what I have but may I ask who you got my information from?
GayLynn Davidson-Green

I also wonder what, if any, information you might have on the Leavitt family of New Hampshire I have been trying to figure out this family and have had some real problems on finding sources.
Tyra Spann Drake (1842-1916) Children: Oliver, Daniel, Asia?, etc

My gggrandfather was Tyra Span Drake (1842 MS-1916 AL). Had 3 children by Matilda Woody: Charles S., Mary D., and Alice Viola. Married Mary Temperance Owen 1869. Children from this marriage: Oliver Cromwell (my ggrandfather 1871 AL-1953 TX), Daniel O. (1872 AL-1953 TX), Azzar Council or Asia Council (don't know if male or female 1873 AL-1956 AL), Frank (b-1875 AL), Alonza Mitchell (1877 AL-1965 AL), George (b-178 AL), and John E. (b-1879 AL)

Oliver married Rinnie Jane Morris 1899, lived in Arkansas then moved to Minden LA. He met her at a boarding house. She left home and rented a room from Oliver's brother, either Frank or George, I think. Does anyone know anything about Oliver or his siblings? I know he worked in a lumber mill. There is a Drake Store in Minden. Does this connect to Oliver?

Any information would be appreciated.
Thank you
Sherry

Upon inquiring of my family history for a college project, I was given a copy of my family history that contains Benjamin Drake's name who was married to Mary Runyon. He was born in 1683 or 1684 in Piscataway, New Jersey and died in 1763 in Hopewell, New Jersey.

His father was Rev. John Drake, married to Rebecca Trotter. He was born in 1655 in Portsmouth, New Hampshire and died in 1790 (will probated 1740, essex co. N.J.)

His father was Capt. Francis Drake. Born in 1615 somewhere in England and died 24 September 1687 in Piscataway, New Jersey. He was married to Mary Walker.

I do not, however know how accurate this information is as it goes back to these earlier times.

George Drake from PA to KS

I am of no relation. I happen to be from Clarion Co., PA and currently live in Hays, Ellis Co., KS. I came across an old newspaper article for Aug. 26, 1899 in the Hays City Republican. Anytime I see the mention of PA in the old papers I save the articles to share. Many people settled or lived here & moved on that were from PA.

The article is one where he is running for the candidate of sheriff. There is a picture of him in the article. It says he was from PA, had lived in Johnson and Linn counties in KS also. Had gone back to PA & returned to KS two years ago.

I know nothing more on him, so he may have moved on.

If anyone is interested in him I will gladly share the article.

Early 1800 Drakes in Hunterdon and Franklin County Pa.

I am a descendant of Elijah Drake of whom is in the 1850 Pa Census married to Rahamma. Recently I discovered his marriage record in early Path Valley Presbyterian Church records of Franklin County. 1823. It appears to me that there are other researchers hung up on this same family, in the same area. I am working on an idea that Asher Drake is the father of these Drakes in this part of Pa. His sons being (at least) Elijah,Christian,Phillip,Jacob and possibly Asher. There is also an Abraham that seems to fall within all this mix. Those I have named report that they (in most cases) were born in N.J. and appear to show up in Pa.at the same time. Throughout the decendency of the family lines an Asher is sometimes named.
I could not find out how to post so I saw NJ in your post. I am searching for A.H. Whitfield born about 1825 in N.J. somewhere. He came to N.C and was on the N.C. census in 1850. He is my great, great, great grandfather. I don't know what his initials stand for either. He married Rachel Arey in Fayetteville, N.C, Cumberland County. Her father, Joseph Arey was born around 1895-1900 in N.J. as well. He married Salina Stairt in Fayetteville as well. I am stuck with all three surnames, Whitfield, Arey, and Stairt. Any help out there. A.H,'s daughter, Ellen Day Whitfield married John Aurelius Lambeth in Fayetteville. I have the Lambeth line going. Can anyone help me? Thanks
Sue-Vail

I think I can answer my own query now - if this might help anyone. I don't think any of Thomas Drake's descendants went to Maine as far as I know. The Drake Family I am researching descends from Sir Bernard/Barnard Drake, a possible cousin of Sir Francis, as per Sir Francis. These Drakes were in Weymouth and Taunton, Mass. before Oliver Drake, a marine and also patriot at "The Battle of Bunker Hill," moved to Maine in 1782. His son Elisha Drake married Abigail Roberts. Their youngest son Moses F. Drake is the one I'm looking for information on. He married Phoebe Halstead in Henry Co., IL; they lived in IL, Iowa, and Washington State. Moses died in Portland, Multnomah Co., OR March 6, 1905, but no one seems to know what happened to him after that - no known burial place.

Drake Families of Dutch Origin in Pennsylvania

Hi everyone,

This is a long shot, but I am wondering if anyone has encountered a Stephen Drake in the course of his/her research. My 4th great-grandmother, Susanna Drake (once referred to as Nina) married Philip Shaffer in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania in 1810. Susanna was the daughter of Stephen Drake. I've come across several Stephen Drakes on the internet in Pennsylvania, but none with daughter Susanna/Nina. Susanna Drake had the following children: Rev. Stephen Drake Shaffer, William Henry Harrison Shaffer, Laura Ann Shaffer, Elmina Jane Shaffer, Mahala Shaffer, John Calvin Shaffer, Leatha Louisa Shaffer, Eurania Ellen Shaffer, and Simon Shaffer. If anyone has any information or leads on this family, the help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Kate

David Hughes Drake, Civil War Veteran

I am looking for information on David Hughes Drake, born 13 November 1833 in Talbotville Royal (registry office in Fingal) - aka Five Stakes - Southwold Township, Elgin County, Upper Canada (now Ontario). His father was Phineas Drake, his mother was Catherine Hughes Drake.

That is all I know about him except from the family verbal history which tells us he joined the Union side in the American Civil War and did survive. When he came home, his father - a very staunch royalist - threw him out of his house and the family for having anything to do with the American Army. Apparently he then moved to Cincinnati where he ran a hardware business and raised his family. He returned once to Canada in September of 1910 to attend the funeral of his brother Dr. William Howell Drake of Kingsville, Gosfield Township, Essex County, Ontario (who is my great grandfather).

I would like to find David's Civil War records and any information about him and his family. I am particularily interested in contacting his descendents.

I may be contacted at info@norcross.ca.

Thank you for listening.

Looking for family background on John Drake. According to the 1850 US Federal Census he lived in Erin, Chemung, New York. His estimated birth year was 1812 in New York. He was living with his wife Elizabeth and children: George, Frances, Harmon, Mary and Elizabeth. The 1870 US Federal Census has him living with his son George in Salem, Olmsted, Minnesota. With him are his son John, daughter Susan and daughter Sophronia. There is no mention of his wife Elizabeth but in the 1880 Census she is listed as widowed and living in Byron, Olmsted, Minnesota with son John and daughter Sophronia. In 1881 Sophronia is single and living in Morden, Manitoba Canada with the T.P. Murray family. She married Albert Hutchinson Morden and had a daughter Francis, sons Albert and Clarence. Her brother George also ended up in Morden Manitoba sometime between 1882 and 1885 with his young wife Ellen and his children Dora, Frank, Ida, Albert and Charles. His profession is listed as carpenter.
If anyone is familiar with this family and can provide me with more information I would really appreciate it.

I have learned my ancestry and mapped it out following the trail of another Joseph Drake who was the son of a Reverend Bamfield or Bamfylde Drake who in 1726 was a stoway on a ship from Plymouth to New York at the age of 9. Following four generations after that my grandmother Uarda Drake married an Irishman named Smallen and give birth to my dad Gordon and then I came after that. My grandmother remarried during the depression hence giving me my last name. Feel free to e-mail me

Claudia Walker Drake was the sister of my great grandfather, David Iranius Drake. She was born in Texas (likely Argyle, Denton, Texas like her siblings) on the September 12, 1889. The family home was in Keller, Texas for years. She married John T. Osborne in about 1909. They had twins together that did not survive. They were also buried in Mt. Gilead cemetery, but their bronzed double headstone was stolen years ago, according to my cousin. Claudia died May 24, 1933. She had breast cancer.

Claudia's parents were Thomas Walker Drake and Marcelia Geneveria Fishback.

I'd be happy to share photos of Claudia and this family. I have a wonderful group shot of this family, but I'm not sure that Claudia is in it. Perhaps she took the photo!

Re: DRAKE Vida Verda 1892-1984

Verda was my great grandmother on my father's maternal side. I have numerous pictures of her from the time she was 11-12 years old until she was an old woman. She was born on 09 February 1892 in Lewis County Washington and her family moved to Fort Worth Texas when she was quite young. She lived the rest of her life in the Fort Worth area.

Her parents were Wilber J. Osborne and Mary Elizabeth McMahan. They were both from Roane County, Tennessee, but her father was born in Ohio. Mary's family moved from Tennessee to Wagner's Creek, Oregon in about 1880-1881. Her mother's sister lived close by in Talent, Oregon. Wilber followed shortly after and likely by rail. I have a short autobiography from his brother, who also moved west, who said that he had traveled by train to California I believe, and then by boat up the coast. I presume that Wilber did the same. Wilber and Mary were married in Oregon in March of 1882.

Mary's father, Joseph F. McMahan, died scandalously in April of 1883 at his home on Wagner's Creek. There are newspaper accounts of the event and I'd be happy to share this information with other relatives. His widow, Josephine Edwards McMahan, and family moved north to an area near present day Mossyrock, WA. They settled the area and Wilber Osborne ran a general store there.

Her "real" name was Vida Verda Osborne, but she mixed those names up however she pleased from the records I've seen. She often referred to herself as Verdie in census records. She married David Iranius Drake of Keller, Texas around 1909. They had five children together and then divorced. I have many letters that she wrote to her husband when they were estranged during their relationship. I also have some that she wrote to his sister, Claudia Walker Drake, who married Verda's brother, John T. Osborne. Verda never remarried.

Verda was a missionary in New Mexico for many years after she had raised her family of two girls and three boys. She was fondly known to the many that loved and adored her as "Granny."

Please contact me for photos and any other information on this family.

My name is Erik (I'm 42)and my relation through the Drakes goes through my grandmother Uarda Drake via Forest Drake (her dad)who died 1975. Forest was the son of a Joseph Edwin Drake. In 1729 a Joseph Drake was a stoway on an English ship bound for New York.In the early 1800s he went west and ended up in Minnesota. This is what I remember (my mother has the rest of the information) Also Joseph Edwin Drake was a member of the Oddfellows. E-mail if you wish.

In resonse to an enquiry by Nancy Stingley posted 26 Mar2000. I only now came upon your post. I too am a decendant of Nancy Harriet Drake and Wilson Wise. My Gr-Grandmother was Laura May Wise. Nancy's parents were Nathaniel Samuel Drake and Elizabeth Nixon. This much info has been in our family records for generations.
http://www.xroyvision.com.au/drake/researchs/29.htm
This web site shows this couple and nathaniel's ancestors back 3 generations.
http://rteaston.tripod.com/drake-line.html
This site picks up Abraham Drake and Deliverance Wooden and goes back many generations.
I believe this is reliable information as I have seen a number of web sites with the same names. The Fitz-Randolph name is particularly interesting and can be found by googling it. Feel free to e-mail me at cousinbilly@msn.com if you want more info.
