I am searching for any information what so ever on my Dowd line. My grandfather was George Tillet b: 1885, his brothers were Alfred b:TX, Ed, and Henry, he had more but I don't know their names. Their father was Gunn Dowd born in Alabama abt. 1852. This is all I know about them. If anyone can help I would really appreciate it, I'm at a brick wall with this one. HELP!!!!

It might be possible, my Ed Dowd is believed to be one of the oldest children. His parents and his grandparents moved all over. I have only traced as far back as S.C. the other day, until then I thought they were only in TX and CA, but since I have found they were also in Mississippi and OK and then my grandfather that went to Arizona. Your Ed could also be an uncle to my ED, my mother used to talk about how her dad would talk about his uncle ED, that was one of the younger brothers of his dad Gunn. I will start looking in NC also, maybe we can find a link. Do you have any other information about your Edward like where he died or lived at any point? If you would like I will give you what I have on my Dowd line, just let me know.

Georgia,I don't have alot of info.my grandmother's maiden name was Beulah May Dowd b.9-12-1900 d.12-29-1981.She lived in Buffalo,NY from 16 on.I only learned of her parents name when she died. They were Edward and Ella Dowd. She was born in Trinity,NC.She left home when she was 16 and never had anything to do with her family again other than I have pictures, who I am not sure who they are.I was told prior to her leaving home she lived in Auburn,NY as far as I know. She had 3 brothers and she was the oldest.I know only one brothers name and it is Maurice aka.(Bunt).Something happened and she never would say anything. She told my father that she had a mother who birthed her and that was as far as it went.It is really odd.Curious to learn the facts and why.BEV

Bev, I just found a 1900 census for my g grandfather who was the father of my g uncle Edward Dowd. It turns out my family was wrong about him being the oldest because in 1900 he was just 12 years old. I'm sorry but it seems he couldn't be the Edward your looking for. Good luck in your search.

I am most curious about your family names. Especially George Dowd and Alfred Dowd. My grandfather was born Alfred Dowd - his father - according to adoption records, was George Dowd. George was married to Mary ? according to my grandfather's adoption records. George and Mary had another child, Mamie, born around 1890. My grandfather, Alfred, was born around 1893. Court records state Mary (the mother) died in late 1893 and that her husband, George, if living, had fully abandoned his children.

Alfred and Mamie were taken from the Samaritan Home in Cleveland, Ohio by two different families who adopted them. Does this fit with anything you've found. I appreciate your response.

Are you still looking for information on Gunn Dowd's family? I am a descendant of Alfred and Amanda, and have a little information. If you are interested, please let me know.
