I presume you are RVing by the way you talked. We have a 38'Tahoe with triple slides. We plan on rving full time when we retire, but anyway.
What I have found is:
Issac Samuel Dowd born Nov. 1832 in South Carolina. Father--possibly Robert Dowd of N.C. and a mother Martha?? Our history relates that she was Indian, but have found no proof. They were married about 1855 in Alabama and he died after 1900 in Texas. Nancy was born about 1836 in Alabama and died 3 april 1895 in Texas. Her father ,I believe, was Harris Howard and mother--Lola. I found them in Pikes Co. Ala. in 1850.
I found Issac and Nancy in 1850 in Dale Co. Ala. in 1860 in Burleson Co. Tx. in 1870 in Burleson Co. Tx. in 1880 in Goliad Co. Tx dist. 1 then in 1900 Karnes Co. Tx Issac was all alone age 67 and then in 1910 also Karnes Co. Tx. I have their children and what I know if you want to exchange. Could you send me a family group sheet from Robert W. Dowd down to yourself and family. I'll do the same and send it to your home address in Maine. I've got copies of the census records and this is my theory on Issac. I believe his father was Issac or james. Their was an Issac Dowd in 1820 in Kershaw Co. S.C. then Martha appears in Dale Co. Ala. in 1850 just her and 3 kids-----Isaac Samuel 1850 says age 22 and Elizabeth S.J. age 17 and Sarah W. age 12. all born in S.C. I found documents of an Emanuel Dowd died 1778-1779 will probated in 1779 and wife Sarah with these children--Wiliby, James, Sarah, and John born 1755. Emanuel bought land in 1772 in Duplin Co. N.C. It is in the will book of that conty. It also listed Emmanuel in New Hanover Co. as a taxpayer. The Blackshear's and the Dowd were in the same county at the same time during that time period. Did I tell you my maiden name is Blackshear.? We come from the Nancy Lucinda "Lucy: Dowd that married Albert Peikert. I'll wait to hear from you to write more............Glenda

Brenda, so sorry I've taken so long to reply. This is what I know. My grandmother, Myrtle Dowd Johnson, was the daughter of Robert W. Dowd and Anna Laura Bone. Robert was Isaac S. Dowd's oldest son. Growing up my grandmother always told me that her father was Irish. One greataunt (Fannie Dowd) said her father told her the O of O'Dowd was "droppped in the ocean" coming from Ireland. I always assumed by that statement that they were recent immigrants. But, I don't think so now. I've never heard the story of Isaac's wife being Indian. I have found some of the censuses you listed. Did you find the 1910 Cottle Co. Texas census for Robert W. Dowd? My grandmother and her siblings are listed. I was told by my grandmother that her father's name was Robert Winneford Dowd. I'm just guessing at the spelling of the middle name. But I've found Winnefords and Howards together, leading me to believe that Nancy Howard had a Winneford in her background. I'm I right in believing that Isaac was born in Charleston, SC. I couldn't find anything on him at the local genealogy center there, doesn't mean it's now there though. I agree with you, I think that Isaac's father was also an Isaac. I found several Isaac Samuel Dowd's going quite a ways back. It does seem like an unusual combination of names...
Please contact me with your email address and I'll try to send you what I know of my grandmother's family and the families of her siblings. I don't have a lot of information. Have you been in touch with BRENDA PETTY. She is also a descendent of Lucinda Dowd. Thanks again. Yvonne Kendley quest@clinic.net

Received your response to my posted message. Will write you soon and send you some of my research on the Dowd family.
While reviewing the Land records of the BLM*Bureau of Land Management, I found that an Isaac Dowd,a Martha Dowd and a James Dowd all recordedi.e. homesteaded property in Alabama in November 1858. I'll send you a copy of this record.
Based on the information you sent me this could very well be Isaac Dowd and his parents.
Also, I assume you have reviewed the 1850 Alabama
Census with Isaac, his mother and his sisters...
There is also an 1855 Census with Isaac and his wife Have you uncovered that yet
I find this information about recording this land in late 1858 puzzling because there is a record of an i s dowd in 1860 burleson TX census that could be Isaac and family. So, I wonder why a person would put down roots and make an abrupt move to Texas in such a short span of time
