I'm looking for a Catherine Donais who lives or lived in Chatham Ontario in the 1980's and also about the time when she was looking for her son that she put up for adoption in Feb. 1960. Her son now is trying to locate her also and is not sure of where she may be living. If anyone has any information could you please let me know.

Thanking you in advance

I hadn't seen that entry there. An entry in the broken branches led me to Charles and his wife Virginie. That was the beginning of the name changes that I found and ultimately led me to find a whole side of my family.

I will look there again. Thank you.

I happened upon a website of The Plattsburgh Sentinel and found Charles' siblings in an obituary: Fred of Holyoke MA (who I believe married Charles' wifes sister) Edward of Plattsburgh, Mrs. Alfred Bushey of Plattsburgh and Mrs. John St.John (the deceased). Now to find their parents!
Hi Rodney,
Could you tell me more.....
Here's all I KNOW about 'my' Antoine:
He was married 1831 Mar 19; the record is from Mackinac County Courthouse; Office of the Register of Deeds; Record #83: "Antoine Delonie and Harriet Gifford were married on the 19th day of March 1831 by the Rev. Samuel Mazzuchille (Mazzuchelli)." I’m assuming both were b. abt. 1811.
2 Children were baptized at St. Anne’s Church on Mackinac Island:
1833 Dec 02 Isabellum Elizabeth Delonay; and
1835 Oct 31 Antoine Doner
His name is written Antoine Delonie (record of marriage); Antoine Delonay (Isabella’s baptism); and Antone Delonoy (Antoine‘s baptism); His wife’s name is written Harriet Gifford on marriage certificate; Margarith Griffith (Isabella's baptism) & Margarittoe Grifface (Antoine's baptism)

I have LOTS on Isabella (who was generally referred to Elizabeth) and Antoine (Jr.); but absolutely NO leads on either Antoine, Sr. nor Harriet. The 1850 census shows Elizabeth and Antoine living with Samuel and Sophia McCalloch, so either Antoine & Harriet had died by then or had left the area.

Does any of this ‘fit’ with your Thomas? Was he from the Northern Michigan area?

Thanks so much,
Judy
Hi Sharon,
Good to hear from you. What I REALLY need is.....still....to know whether or not 'my' Antoine is the same as this one. So far what I've seen is that Antoine, son of Jean Baptiste & Marie-Archange, was b. 01 Sep 1815. That ALMOST fits. BUT---MY Antoine was married 19 Mar 1831 in Cheboygan, Michigan. There's the problem. IF he was b. 1815, he'd be only 16 when married. That's pretty young, even in those days; though it IS possible.
ANYWAY---would you have any info on Antoine other than birth date? I somehow must get past this hurdle before I can be certain he's a part of this family.
Thanks so much.
Judy

Thank you so much for your reply and information. I believe we are researching the same Eleanor/Leonora Donais. The names and ages of her children appear to match. According to my information Eleanor was born in about 1826, and married to Joseph or Jean Baptiste Boudreau (b. June 6, 1824 in Sorel, QC). Eleanor was the daughter of Jean Baptiste Donais and Marie Archange Arceneau.

One of Eleanor's daughters, Mary J. (b. 1852-53, d. 1942) was my gg-grandmother. However, please note that my information on Eleanor originally came from the LDS Family Search and has not been confirmed with any original sources, so I cannot be certain that this information is correct.

I will do some more checking and let you know if I find anything :o).

Thank you!
Karen Nowlin
Hi Karen,
I'm researching this same family, hoping (praying) that this is my "Antoine Donais"'s family.

I found a couple of census entries that will interest you.

1860 Nov 14 Census; Maple Grove; Hennepin Co. MN; Pg# 116 & 117; Dw# 1141; Fam# 975; Beaudreau (spelled Bodreau on census), John 33, b. Can, Farmer, Value of Real Estate $1,600, Value of Personal Estate $700; w/Leonora D. 33 b. Can; Mariah 16; Joseph (Jos) 14; Ellen 12; (next pg.) Mary 8; Anna 6; Christine 5; (Can't read name--looks like Zetelend??) age 3; Sarah 2; + Frank Donnah? (possibly Francois Donais??) 25, Laborer, born Can & Louis Luses/Leises? Laborer b. Can. (Mariah & Joseph b. Can; all other children b. MN

With that in mind that I looked him up on the 1870 census. I found John Baptiste, but no Eleanor/Leonor! Don't know what to make of this. Here's the listing:

1870 Jul 30 Census; Maple Grove; Hennepin Co. MN; Pg# 24?; Dw# 133; Fam# 133; Beaudreau, John 47 Farmer, born Can; Value of Real Estate $3,000; Value of Personal Estate $695; w/Emma 45 b. Can; Christian 16 works on farm (in the 1860 census is listed as Christine & Female; here is listed as Christian & Male???); (next child's name is illegible again, but looks like Whitoraina ) age 14; Sarah 12; Caroline 10; Jenette 7; & John 3/12. (All children b. MN)

I'm sure they're both the same family. Do we assume Eleanor died between 1860-1870? Or could 'Emma' be another form of Eleanor?

Anyway...hope this helps!
Best Regards,
Judy King

I'm VERY interested!! Do you know anything more about him?
Did he migrate to the Mackinac Michigan area (or Cheboygan?) My Antoine (aka Antoine Delonie; Antoine Delonay; Antone Delonoy) was in the Mackinac Island area by 19 Mar 1831 when he married Harriet Gifford (aka Margarith Griffith; Margarittoe Grifface). I've found (so far) 2 children born to them: Elizabeth Isabellam 02 Dec 1833 (again, many spellings); and my Gr-Grandfather Antoine 31 Oct 1835. Both were baptised at St. Anne's Church on Mackinac Island.

Please let me know if any of this fits in with your Antoine. It certainly sounds as if this may be the same person, and I would LOVE to know more about him.

Thanks so much!
Judy King

Donais (and variations), Antoine; Michigan

Hi all,
I see no one has yet mentioned Donais/Deloney/Donet/Doner/Delonais/Donner/Dellone/etc, etc., etc. in Michigan.
My great-great grandfather, Antoine Doner (pick a variation, any variation---I've documented at least 10) was b. 1835 Mackinac Island, MI. He was the son of Antoine Delonie & Harriet Gifford (aka Antoine Delonay; Margarith Griffith). He had one sister, Elizabeth (Isabelle) that I know of. He was married 3 times (that I know of) and the children I've documented so far are:
(with wife Marie Louise Lessieur) Marie Harriet; Elizabeth Cecile; Antoine Edward; Zoe Matilda; Alfred Gullianus Co. MI
(with 2nd wife Magdelene Asselin): Elizabeth Esther Davenport	& Mary Jean LaLonde (Magdelene's daughters/Antoine's stepdaughters); Then Rose Lucy (my Grandmother); Oliver; and Charles (all listed as DONER)

(With 3rd Wife Jennie Taylor, Jennie/Dot J. E. Doner & Laura Doner.

That's the basic info, but the question is, who were the parents of Antoine D.....Sr. HE was b. abt. 1813, possibly in Quebec, possibly anywhere!

I can't seem to get beyond this 'brick wall'. If someone has an Antoine b. abt. 1813 (ANY variation of the surname), PLEASE let me know.

Thank you!
J. King

Hi. I'm a sixteen year old girl in Queens, New York and I live with my mother, stepfather, older brother and sister, and my little brother. I aquired my last name from my father who now lives in wyoming. I was wondering if you know much about the Donais family. I don't know much about my family and would like to learn more about it. I have family all over the country (that I know) like: the New England Area, Virginia, Florida, New Jersey, one in Wyoming and one in Colorado that I know of. That's about all that I can think of. These are my first and second aunts, uncles and cousins. Also my great-grandmother, Doris, in Mass. Well, I have to go. I usually check my email once a week. Please send me, soon.
