Dolans of Mayo, Ireland

My great-great-grandfather Martin Dolan left Ireland for England with his children about 1862 (as far as I know.) The family appears to have lived at various locations in the Westport-Castlebar area. There were not too many Dolans in Mayo - at least after the famine. Does anyone know anything which would throw any light on them?

John Dolan, Warrington, England

Here is what I have on the Dolans

Felix Dolan b. c1816 in Ireland d. 07 Mar 1889 in Faxon Twp., Sibley, MN
Married c. 1856 in Taunton, MA to
Mary Elizabeth Clinnin (Clemens?) b. 1831 in Ireland
d. 11 Mar 1907 in Faxon Twp., Sibley, MN
Only one known adopted child:
John H Dolan b. c1855-58 in Taunton, MA d. ???? in MN??

Note: I think Johm may have been Mary Elizabeths son from before her marriage to Felix. I have not pirsued this line of research but she may have been a widow with her married name being Clemens. Or her maiden name was Clemens and her married name was Climmins.

John H Dolan b. 1855-58 in Taunton, MA d. ???? in MN?
Married c1878 in Faxon Twp, Sibley, MN to
Mary Anne Doheny b. 1858 in Faxon
Three known children:
Alice b. c1880
Rose b. c1882
Joseph F. b. c1884

Your message has Felix as being in Susquehanna, NY. This should be Susquehanna County, PA which is in the far NE corner of PA, across the Susquehanna River from NY. MY Grimes and Doheny ancestors from Tipperary settled first in Susquehanna, PA when they came from Ireland. They moved to Jessenland Twp., Sibley, MN in 1852-53. A number of other Irish families from PA followed them to MN. Felix was one of these. The towns in PA were Middleton and Friendsville,
If you have different info please let me know.

Trying to locate Michael Charles Dolan, born 1944. Fathers name Charles Louis Dolan of Flint Michigan. He is deceased. My mother has been told that Michael possible died very young. His father was married at the time to Helen Clara Welch and they had two daughters Jeanne born 1939 and Susie born after 1944. I am not sure where Michael was born. I assumed it might be in Michigan, however, my Grandfather Charles was in the military at the time and it could have been over seas.. No idea of the mothers name. Thanks!

I'm not sure if your family is the same as mine. My gr great grandfather was Patrick Dolan. He was born in 1827 in Ireland, came to the US probably around 1850-54, married Mariah Haney and lived in New Baltimore, New York until his death in 1890. My great grandmother, his daughter, was named Catherine. It sounds as if your John Dolan is too young to be part of this family since he was born in 1911 but perhaps there is a common ancestor?

William had 4 children...Frances, my grandmother (married Francis X Burke), Gerald, and twins Evelyn & Elinor (neither married ~ Elinor contracted polio as a child, and Eve took care of her her entire life). Gerald (Jerry) and his father had some sort of disagreement and he left home. I have not been able to find him and would appreciate any info about my great uncle.

His father was born in Egypt North Carolina, year unknown. Dad was born in 1922 so I guess his father could have been anywhere from 18-50? at that time. I know of 2 other families here named Dolan, I went to school with a boy named Edward Dolan, and there was a professor at the University of Puget Sound also named Dolan. If anyone knows anything about NC, Florida or Alabama Dolans (possibly Scotch-Irish) I would love to hear from you. Thanks

Trisha
