Am researching the James Dolan family, 1850's from Moore Countyy Roscommon Ireland. Any connections? Have hit a stumbling block with his wife's name.

Hi,
My G G Grandfather was named James Dolan and was married to Mary Cathrine Killian, they were from County Roscommon also.
I wrote to the Stokestown Historical Soc. and mail me some baptismal info. If you think this is the same line let me hear from you.

The James Dolan I am looking for information on was born about 1825. He was from Cloonulty. Co. Roscommon. There were 3 children that I know of Catherine born about 1846, Kieran born about 1860 and Nellie born about 1867. I followed his land records and the land was passed to Kieran. Catherine Dolan's marriage certificate states that she was from Cloonulty and her father was James. There was no mother listed. I have Nellie's mother being Elizabeth Feary however this may have been a second marriage for him. And her age and birth date are fuzzy as have found that many fudged their age upon arriving in the US. She died in Boston in 1928. If you can be any help I would appreciate it.
Thank you,
Ellen

Hi
I'm curious if you James Dolan might have a brother John born around 1830. John emigrated to Connecticut between 1848-1850 and married Winifred Dwyer. Their son's name was James...
Thank you.

I have no idea who James parents or siblings were. I have not been able to go back any further than I have as all the Moore Parish records were destroyed from that time period. There were other Dolan's in Cloonulty and there were many Dolans in Roscommon as well. It was civil registration marriage record of his daughter Catherine that gave me the name of her father (James) and residence. Civil registration started about 186? before that they had church records. Sorry I couldn't be more help. If you could find the area (Cloonulty-Cloonown etc)or Parish from Roscommon they were from you might have more luck. Perhaps a marriage or birth record sometimes it will say an area and not just Ireland or a County in Ireland. Dolan was a pretty popular name. Who your Dolans came here with could also give you a clue.
Wish I could help.

Hi:)

I'm very interested in hearing more of your John Dolan who moved to CT and married W Dwyer. Do you know what part of CT and the names of their children???

Any Terrance in your line?
If so, I have another branch to fill in for you:)

Thanks! Pattie

Hi Pattie,

I know very little of my GGGrandfather John Dolan except that when he first emigrated he lived in Windsor, CT for a short time. He married Winifred Dwyer in the early 1850s. They had several children: James Francis (my Great Grandfather), Sarah (Sullivan), Mary (Vail) and Ann. After my grandfather was born in 1859, the family moved to Hartford, CT. John died November 1, 1882 at the age of 51. Winifred lived in Hartford until 1915. My Ggrandfather eventually changed the spelling of the name to Dolin.

I do not have a Terrance - at least not at this time. I noticed in your other post that you had called counties in Litchfield, CT. Your town Ridgeford, sounds like Ridgefield - which is a town in CT. Also, when I was searching my John Dolan - at times, in census, the spelling of his last name was Doolan...might want to check that as well.

Good luck.
