I am seeking any information relative to Joseph Dedic's parents and siblings. My great-grandfather, Joseph Dedic, was bron June 29, 1858 in Limilkov, Bohemia. He married Anna Pocenik in 1883 and they later lived in Novo Mesto. In 1907 they emigrated to the US via Ellis Island; they settled near Foley, Minnesota (Gilmanton).

How wonderful to hear from you!! We are related. My maternal grandmother, Josephine, was Richard's older sister. Richard was the youngest of five children. I have information on each of grandmother's siblings except Richard...probably because he moved out of state. I would appreciate it if you could provide me with his birth date, birthplace, who he married & when (I think her name was Hazel, right?), and when he died. I am happy to share with you any information that I have on the family!

I have no information at all on Joseph Dedic's parents/family nor on his wife's (Anna Pocenik Dedic's) parents or family. I have contacted many of the local relatives and no one seems to know.

The timing of your response is wonderful as Mom and I are having some of Anna Dedic's family over for lunch tomorrow. As you may know Anna & Joseph were siblings of Richard; they were twins born on July 22, 1888 in Nove Mesto, Bohemia. They were born 4 years after my grandmother.

Do you know on what ship and when your grandfather came to this country? I assume he came with his mother and sister, Anna. I do have copies of the ship's manifest from Ellis Island showing that Joseph Dedic Sr. and two of his sons, (Joseph Jr & Frank) came over on the steamship "Rhein" which departed from Bremen, Germany on June 2, 1907 and arrived in New York Harbor on June 15, 1907. The records show that they were going to the US to join Joseph Dedic Sr's cousin; however, I don't know who that was. I have been unable to track down when Anna, the mother, and Anna, the daughter arrived. Can you shed any new light on this?
