Do you know anything about your Thomas Cunliffe?

The Thomas in my tree was born in 1858. He was raised in Ashton-in-Makerfield by his parents Peter (1818) and Catherine (1821 - nee Sanderson).

I don't have a wife recorded for Thomas and wondered if it might be your Catherine.

Your message states that Catherine was born in 1874 and that she married in 1875? Please have another look at those dates and let us know

If anyone has any information on the Mellett family believed to have come from Co. Mayo. My grandmother Catherine was born about 1874- fathers name James Mellett. I would appreciete any information of any brothers or sisters. Catherine married my grandfather Thomas Cunliffe in Ince in Makersfield Wigan in 1875.

There is a Williiam McClean but I do not have much info on that line. My husband says some of the MccLeans lived in Knowsley Rd St Helens.

In St Helens there were two distinct families of Cunliffes, one was a mining family and the other in the glass industry both from generations past

Hi,

I am searching for a woman, last name Cunliffe who was likely born in Alberta Canada in 1925. At some point she and her mother moved to British Columbia. She was born out of wedlock.
Her mother was born in England in 1904 and was educated to grade 6.

She had one son, who was put up for adoption, he was born in Vanouver BC in 1942, she then had at least one more girl and I believe 2 more boys and I am not sure, but the paperwork of her first son points toward them being given up for adoption too.(all during the 1940's)

Do you know who this may be? Does it ring any bells with your Cunliffe's life?

I am trying to find information on Maria CUNLIFFE who married HEnry THOMASSON in Liverpool in 1806.

Henry was a pawnbroker and Maria continued the business when he died (bef 1841)

In 1841 she had children Ann Woodvine, Maria, Henry, Alice and Helen living with her, but she also had had John Cunliffe and William

In 1853 she was living at 44 Field St, Everton

Sorry for the long delay in replying.
I do not think the Cunliffs are connected other than they looked after the Middlehurst boys who survived a massacre in America. Why the Middlehurst relatives did not take the boys in we do not know, perhaps there was just not enough room.
So sorry, cannot help further.

I have Cunliffe's Yates's and Fairhurst's in my tree.

Alice Yates (1872 from Old Owl's Nest, Haydock, Lancashire) married Joseph Cunliffe (1870 - 1922 from Coppull, Lancashire) in 1889.

Alice Yates's parents were James (1840 from St Helens, Lancashire) and Ellen Smith (1850).

I don't know if my Yates family is connected to yours?

Well, it would be nice to find someone researching the Yates line. My father William Lingings was born 1899 in Tyldesley, Lancashire to William Lingings and Nanny Yates, da of Cunliffe Yates and Ellen Fairhurst (who was married first to a James Jones of Wigan.) Cunliffe Yates was b abt 1837 (but I have never found his birth registration or christening) to John Yates and Nanny Harwood. My father's family moved to British Columbia, Canada in 1911 when he was eleven years old. He later lived in Alberta where he met my mother - I was born in Alberta in 1936 and moved to Hawaii in 1958 where I met my husband who was in the USN. Since 1961 I have lived in Kingsport, Tennessee. I haven't worked on this in quite some time. If you wish to contact me directly, e-mail me at jmj405@chartertn.net. of Mt. Lebanon, died Friday, April 18, 2008. He was the beloved husband of the belated Carolyn Evans Cunliffe; loving father of Frank H., of Philadelphia, Susan C. Skowron, of Fox Chapel, and John R., of Oak Hill, Va.; father-in-law of John Skowron; and grandfather of Anne, Jordan, Robert and Carolyn. Mr. Cunliffe was an investment adviser for 50 years and was currently working for Hunter Associates. Mr. Cunliffe was a past elder for First Presbyterian Church of Pittsburgh and most recently had been attending Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church. He was a veteran of World War II, where he was stationed as a B-17 pilot in England. He flew 11 combat missions before being shot down by enemy combat action. He received injuries for which he was awarded the Purple Heart. He later flew for Air Transport Command. He was a past president for the 388th Bomb Group Association, member of the Delaware Medal of Honor Society, member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, and volunteer for Sharing and Caring, an organization that serves hospitalized veterans. He was an avid philatelist from childhood and was a member of the Club de Monte Carlo, American Philatelic Society, American Revenue Association. Friends will be welcome from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at BEINHAUERS, 2630 W. Liberty Ave., Dormont, 412-531-4000, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday. Henry Cunliffe - Lancashire

While perusing the Belfast News-Letter February 1, 1828 issue 9459 I spied the following announcement:

BIRTH EXTRAORDINARY. - On the 13th ult. and early on the following morning, the wife of Henry Cunliffe, of Rawtenstall, in Rossendale, Lancashire, a journeyman sizer, was safely delivered of THREE MALE and TWO FEMALE children! They were all perfectly formed, and each lived about ten minutes after its birth. The mother is doing well.- Sun.

I am not researching this family and I have no other information, but I couldn't pass this notice by without posting.

I don't have Richard Cunliffe (b 1816) in my tree but I do have Cunliffe's who married into my Pilling branch (too many to name here).

My Margaret Pilling(b 1859) married a Thomas Twist (b 1857)from Haydock.

Thomas and Margaret Twist had children Mary (1875), Ann (1877) and James (1881). All born in Haydock. Do these appear in your tree? There may be a connection with all these Cunliffe, Pilling and Twist branches.

Could you tell me anything more about your Martha(1817)?
I have a Martha (1840), born at 83 Lodge Lane A-I-M. Her father was Joseph Cunliffe (1813) born in Orrel, Wigan, Lancashire.

I don't have any siblings recorded for Joseph. I wondered if your Martha might be one? His father was Joseph (c1778) from A-I-M.

I have a lot of info on the cunliffe family, which i am happy to share with you. In 1861 you will find the family in old folds row, haydock. Their name is spelt cundliffe.
Have you found the family in the earlier census's if not let me know and I will tell you where to find them.

I come from Thomas, he married Elsie Naylor. On their marraige certificate Elizabeth is a witness. They had three boys and a girl. One of the sons was Gilbert Cunliffe my Grandpa. I remember Elsie well, but not Thomas. Unfortunately I only have one picture of Myles when he was quite old. But I know very little of his family. I didnt know Catherine was also a Cunliffe. Do you have any further information you would be willing to share with me?

This is my family. Thomas & catherine both had the same surname - Cunliffe !! Which makes it harder to trace although I have gone back to 1700 with catherine.
Which of Miles & Margaret's children do you come from ? We come from their daughter elizabeth.

Miles Cunliffe born 1853 is my 2x great Grandfather he married a Margeret Leech, who alrealy had two what appear to be illigitemate children. Miles when on to have a further 11 childern. Searching for info concerning. John Spencer,b-1840...Married Jesse Kidd? Children Edward, Fred, Richard, Frank and possibly Belle. His poarents may have been Henry Cunliffe and Elizabeth Spencer b1813. John probably came to NY from liverpool in 1845 but not sure.

There is a Cunliffe Gang, ended up in New Jersey,then Hartford...John Cunliffe DOB 1840..
Son were Edward, Fred, Richard, Frank and daughter Belle. There was some indication Edward seperated from family becuase of some type of scandal...and no one ever heard from him again. He would have been born around 1869 Give or take a year.

John Cunliffe and Jane Mountain

I'm looking for information about this couple who are listed in the marriage records for Charles City County, Virginia: August 7, 1660, John Cunliffe and Jane Mountain. I'm trying to find out if this John is the one who came to Virginia, then later came with his son Peter to Newark in 1678, re-named John Cunditt. I've read some other posts that make the suggestion that John Cunditt first came to the Tidewater area of Virginia, then went back to England, then came to New Jersey. I'd like to know more about this John Cunliffe and Jane Mountain.

I am looking for a Sally or Sarah CONLIFFE or CUNLIFFE from Kentucky, dates unknown, but she would have been in Alabama with her husband, Alfred MEREDITH in 1873 when their son, John Thomas MEREDITH, Senior was born. In 1880, their son was living with his aunt/uncle Ellen and John LUCAS in Limestone, Alabama.
