John Culp married Mary McGuire 8 May 1801 in Franklin Co., VA. Surety was provided by John McGuire (brother) and they were married by Horatio Burns.

A John Culpason appeared in the 1810 census for Franklin with a male over 45 and a female over 45 (no children). They lived near Patrick/James/Thomas Slone, known associates of McGuire's.

Does anyone know if John Culp and John Culpason are the same individual?

Does anyone know anything else about John Culp and Mary McGuire?

I can share lots of info on McGuire's but am new to the Culp line.

Jim

POW/MIA Korean War

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Allegheny County, Pennsylvania as his home of record. His remains were never recovered. Our government has no family contact at this time for this soldier

Soldier: CLAYTON JAMES CULP
Born: 1929
Date of loss: September 19, 1952 MIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
yes, there were a lot of culps in this area. some like my grandfather willie culp lived in dorchester, s. carolina.

the people you are looking for sound very familiar, especially fred culp. i think he was my grand uncle. i did a year of research in 1980 to 1981 on the culp family line to see how far back i could go. it was surprising to find free black men who had endentured themselves, paid off debt, now
holding their own land during slavery.
Looking for any connection between my Culps and the Philip & Eleanor/Joshua & Laura Culp lines. My Culps descend from Abraham Culp (b. abt 1755) who appeared slightly northeast of Allegany Co NY in Ontario County (now Yates County) NY in 1800 and remained in that vicinity buying and selling land and appearing on tax rolls until abt. 1816. By 1820 3 of Abraham's sons (Cornelius, Joseph, Jacob b. 1780-1789 PA) had moved Westward with other Ontario County residents and appear in the 1820 Switzerland & Dearborn County, IN censuses.
Another Culp line descends from John Culp (b. 1765-70 PA, possibly Abraham's brother) who settled in Ontario Co. NY by 1802. (John is known to have married abt 1792 in Philadelphia, and is said to be son of a Jacob Culp.) John's line moved on to Niagara Co. NY abt 1810 and then some to MN and MI, where they settled.
The naming patterns are similar in all 3 lines, they lived in the same general part of NY state, and the surname is consistently spelled CULP from 1800 on. I would love help finding some thread that connects them all.

POW/MIA Korean War, CULP

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Allegheny County, Pennsylvania as his home of record.

Soldier: CLAYTON JAMES CULP
Born: 1929
Date of loss: September 19, 1952 MIA
US52179802
E Co 38th Inf Rgt, 2nd Inf Division

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (76 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find these families. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating these families.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
I am trying to locate the where abouts of a Albert M. (Allen)Culp/Kolp of Heidelberg Twp. Lebanon Co. Pa.
The name Albert & Allen as well as Culp & Kolp were used both ways in the census records. The last I find him he resided in the 1880 Census in Heidelberg Twp. Lebanon Co. Allen was the son of Cyrus & Mary Mummau Culp They lived in various places in Lancaster & Lebanon Co. Pa. I have searched all over for Albert and his family to no avale! Some knotations states went west, some stories state went to live in Harrisburg or Pittsburg, but cannot find anything on Census records after 1880.
Does anyone have anything on a Albert Culp/ Allen Kolp having been married to an Elizabeth S. being from Lebanon,Pa.
Rebecca, I too am looking for a George Culp. He would have been my gr-gr-uncle. (I think). Anyway, his parents would have been Philip and Eleanor Schoonover Culp. The age of your George would have been about right. My George had 2 brothers, Cornelius and Joshua and two sisters, Margaret and Catherine. He would have been raised by Cornelius, along with Joshua and Catherine. If any of these names sound familiar, please get back to me. Actually I am looking for info on Catherine, but cannot seem to find her anywhere.

Thanking you in advance
Lorna

Re: looking for curry l culp birth records

I did find a marriage record for Curry L. Culp in Jefferson County, Alabama. She married in August 1936. There is also a marriage record for Emon W. Holloway with the same certificate number, so I assume these are the right people. You might try sending for the certificate, which might have parents names on it.
Vol 6, certificate #3595

I also found a Curlie Lee Culp in the 1930 census, age 18, in Jefferson Co, AL. Her mother’s name was Ella, but she had remarried to Earnest C. Bisildima/Bisildine so her Culp husband must have died.

Alabama death records show the death of Curry D. Culp on 10 Jul 1911. I went to the family trees and found a Daniel Curry Culp who died 1911, and he had a wife Ella and a daughter Curry Lee. So that is obviously the right family. This tree has the Culp family traced back into the 1700s. To see it, go to: http://awt.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=:31931...

It appears as if the George W. Tunnell living with the family in 1930 was probably Ella’s father. He’s listed as a stepfather, but they possibly meant father-in-law. There is an Ella Tunnell in the 1910 census with parents George W. & Margaret A., in Kincheon Twp, Chilton Co, AL.

Good luck!
Lois

Perhaps accessing the Marshall Co, KY census will give you the additional information you're looking for. Good luck!

They are my 5xgreat grandparents, and we have been unable to trace their ancestry back another generation (we believe Nancy's father may have been a Tilman Culp, but know that was a popular name due to the original emigrating ancester, Dielman Kolb).

Thanks,

Laura

Jesse A Culp

I am looking for information concerning Jesse A Culp (my great-great-grandfather) from Chilton County, Alabama. He served in the Confederacy. Some of my research indicates that he might have been a POW, but I haven't been able to confirm this. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Jan

I just found your replay from 2000. My greatgrandmother is Anna Culp Williams, the daughter of Jesse A Culp. I am interested in obtaining more information about the Culps, especially Jesse. I've gotten some information off the Internet, but would like to have anything about his service in the Confederacy.

Thanks,
Jan Oliver

I am not sure that they are the same Catherine Culp - mine was located in southern Ohio/Dayton area. :( If you look at the reply to your previous post, I hope that helps!
