She was believed to be the niece of Drusilla Butler who married Samuel England. Anna Crete Butler was born in 1866 in Iowa with her parents being born in I believe Ohio. The name Crete is so unique, I never dreamed it could be a last name. Family tradition says that she may have candian french. Does anyone have any clues for me. CS

Hello Mary - I sent a long message but I don't know if it got through as I just got notice of a non-delivery but not sure which oe. I keep this one short. My record of Jean Baptiste Cret married 27 Feb 1775 to Marie Therese Robidoux showed quote vf Agathe Robillard unquote

Before that on Lundi 3 Feb 1772 I show Jean Baptiste Cret married to Amable Robillard who died the same year 9 Dec 1772. JB's brother Charles attended.

One other twist to the story is that both marriage records show JB as "fils de feu Louis Cret & Charlotte Maheu de Beauport."

Do we have the same family, with errors or are there 2 separate lines. Have you any ideas Mary or can anyone else comment. Any help would be appreciated.
My husband is descended from Charles-Marie Crete, the son of Louis Crete and Marie-Josephte Maheu. The information I found did in fact list Jean-Baptiste as their son, born about 1750. He is the only one of their children for whom I only have an approximate birth date. I suppose it is possible that he could have been born in 1740, and his parents married in 1741. Not unheard of. Here is what I have:

Name:	Louis CRETE

Birth:	30 Nov 1711	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Death:	8 Mar 1758	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Burial:	8 Mar 1758	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Father:	Pierre CRE(S)TE (1671-1719)
Mother:	Marie DROUIN (1684-1751)
Marriage:	5 Jun 1741	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

Spouse:	Marie-Josephte MAHEU

Birth:	31 Dec 1721	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Father:	Pierre MAHEU (1694-1751)
Mother:	Louise-Suzanne GIROUX (1694-1749)

Children

1 M:	Louis CRETE
Birth:	4 Feb 1742	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

2 F:	Marie-Josephte CRETE
Birth:	12 Apr 1743	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

3 M:	Eustache CRETE
Birth:	20 Sep 1744	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

4 M:	Charles-Marie CRETE
Birth:	Jan 1746	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Spouse:	Catherine PRIMEAU (PRIMOT)
Marriage:	6 Nov 1775	Chateaugay, Quebec, Canada

5 M:	Pierre CRETE
Birth:	19 May 1747	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

6 F:	Marie-Louise CRETE (Died as Infant)
Birth:	10 Aug 1748	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Death:	27 Aug 1748	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

7 M:	Jean-Baptiste CRETE
Birth:	abt 1750

8 F:	Marie-Jeanne CRETE
Birth:	19 Apr 1751	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

9 F:	Marie-Charlotte CRETE
Birth:	1752	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

10 F:	Marie-Louise CRETE
Birth:	8 Aug 1753	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

11 M:	Joseph CRETE (Died as Infant)
Birth:	19 Jul 1755	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Death:	13 Dec 1755	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

12 M:	Joseph CRETE
Birth:	1756	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

13 M:	Michel CRETE (Died as Infant)
Birth:	29 Dec 1757	Beauport, Quebec, Canada
Death:	17 Jan 1758	Beauport, Quebec, Canada

If you have this same line I can give you other information to be checked eiher backwards or forward in time. Joyce

I am looking for my ancestors and there is some confusion. It appears that several generations of the family were illiterate, and the spelling may have been changes from Crete to Crate (since I can find no listings for a Crate family in Quebec). The Crate family were from Ormstown, Chateauguay, Quebec, and my oldest known ancestor, Joseph Henry Crate Sr. was born about 1860 (a guess based on the fact that his son, JHC Jr. was born in 1881). I have no wife, parents or other dates listed. can you help, or do you know someone who can?

mary mal4@st-andrews.ac.uk

I too am looking for that family. The branch that came to America changed its name to Crate about 1900. The farthest back I can reliably get is Joseph Henry Crete born about 1860 in Ormstown, Chateauguay, Quebec. Does this name ring a bell? I would really like to expand this branch.

Adelaide Crete m. Jean-Baptiste Lagasse (Lagace), abt 1840, QC

Help, I am looking for information on Adelaide Crete who married Jean-Baptiste Lagasse (Lagace) around 1840 in probably Saint Hyacinthe, Quebec. Their daughter is Anastasia Minier dite Legace, born 6 March 1843. I think Adelaide's sister is Marie Elizabeth Crete born 1821, married Damase (Thomas) Forcier in Saint Hyacinthe 7 September 1841. M. Elizabeth died in Stewart Minnesota 16 Jan 1917. Does any of this make sense to anybody?
