There are many Cotas in California. Most are descended either from Roque Jacinto de Cota (Los Angeles and San Diego) or his brother, Pablo Antonio Cota (Santa Barbara). Both were sons of Andreas Cota of Villa de Fuerte (el Fuerte), Mexico. I should like to correspond with any who has documented information on this family.

My grandfather name was Jesus Cota, who came from Alamos, Mexico. His parents were form Spain and well off. My grandfather was picked from amongst his brothers and sisters to be a priest. He elected to give up his quest for the priesthood when he met my grtandmother, who was Yaqui Indian. Her name was Coltilde Guiterrez, and they married. They moved to Yuma, Arizona. He passed away approximately 1939. The problem is we did not get to know his family because they disowned him when he took up with my grandmother. My grandmother with her four children ( Coltilde, Maria, Raymond, and my dad Andrew), came to California. They were migrant farm workers till they settled in Turlock, Calif. I am the first male Cota from my grandfather. I would like some help or if you any information?

My name is Kady Jeske and my line comes down through Guillermo's sister Maria Luisa Cota, who married Jose Maria Claudio Lopez, their son Cornelio Maria Lopez and Maria Rafaela Romero, to son Jose Jesus Lopez and Marcella Borjorges and Jose Sylvestre Lopez and Maria Irene Ybarra. Their daughter Julia Clara Lopez married Guillermo D. Small, the son of Maria Luisa Dominguez and Charles M. Small. To my grandmother Louisa M. Small and Howard Wilding Davies.

Miguel Gregorio chr 9 May 1802 Msn Santa Barbara.
I don't have Pablo Antonio's line. Do you? Would appreciate it, if you do. I do have he was married to Maria Bernardo on 30 Aug 1778 at Msn San Juan Capistrano.
