Agnes and Wilbur Conroy (Hanahman) sibling photos from Illinois (Bureau, Livingston, or Lee Co. area) c. 1900

Attached is a great photo of a brother and sister set. On the back it says:
Agnes Conroy and brother, Wilbur.
Then the one of the girl alone says:
Agnes Conroy Hanahman

My grandmother wrote this on the photo before 1960. She had lived in Livingston, Bureau, and Lee Counties in Illinois. She had cousins in LaSalle County.

Grandma is notorious for phonetical spelling so it's quite likely Agnes became a HANRAHAN.

At any rate, perhaps someone will find this that is related!

Hi

I have only just read this message and still hope that you are on Ancestry as i see that it was 8 years ago since your posting.
I am researching my husband's family tree and i see that we share the same family. Francis Conroy and Margaret Ann Pidgeon were his great great grandparents. Their son was Edward Francis Conroy, who was in the army on the rock of Gibraltar. He married a local girl (but her family came from Casares near Malaga) called Estrude Gertrudis Quiros. My father-in-law was one of their many children - Reginaldo Conroy B1912.

I have lots more information of course and hope that we may exchange details etc. looking forward to hearing from you.
kind regards

Christine Conroy

my e-mail address is:
christinemaxwell82@yahoo.co.uk

John Henry Conroy, born 1875 in Massachusetts. Wife Rachel, at least 10 children. Lived in Central Falls RI at 23 Moore St in 1910, 47 Bagley St in 1920 and 1930.

Oldest child of Martin Conroy and Margaret Regan. Martin and Margaret owned and lived at 47 Bagley in 1900 and 1910, John Henry owned it in 1920, so he apparently inherited it.

John Henry was from one of the Conroy/Conry families of Cloonbunny, Roscommon. His grandparents were Dominick Conroy & Margaret Peyton, and Dominick & Elizabeth Regan. Assuming Dominick Conroy was the one in partnership with a Peyton in 1857 Griffith's Valuation, John Henry's great grandfather was also Dominick Conroy.

I am building a Conroy tree from the ones that came from Lorrha, County Tipperary. The tree I am tracing begins with Michael and Bridget (Hogan) Conroy who were married in Lorrha in 1858. Bridget and Michael had 15(?) children of which aboout 9 immigrated to the U.S. in 1891 or 1892 sailing on the Cephalonia from Queenstown Ireland to Liverpool and then to Boston. They settled in fall River MA. My grandfather was Michael Joseph Conroy, DOB Apr 6, 1882.

Hope to hear from you soon with any info you can share about my ancestors

Sincerely,
Michael J.

Hi,

I was checking the posting regarding Ellen Conroy on the Board at the Ancestry.com web site and was really pleased to see your fairly recent posting (April 09). TAB was my great grandfather also. I've been doing research again recently and have a few more details about TAB and TAB II. I hope it's not a repeat of what you already know. Most of it was gleaned from the census reports.

TAB was born March 1870 or possibly 1873 in NY. He married Ellen Conroy in 1893. It's possible they were married in Jersey City, NJ because TAB II (b 1894) and Francis E (b 1896, my grandfather) were both born in Jersey City. In 1900 they lived at 514 West 29th Street, Manhattan. TAB was listed as a bookkeeper. In 1920 they lived at Bay 10th Street, Brooklyn with his family and Francis E's family too. TAB is described as an accountant now. In the 1930 census the family lives at 1317 East 4th Street in Brooklyn. Ellen is the head of household and has two sons, Chas (Charles) and George, and her daughter Beatrice living with her, as well as her daughter-in-law and her son: Grace (George's wife) and George Jr.

I hope this helps shed some light on the family history. If you have details, such as names, birth places and dates of some of your family, I would be interested in adding those to my family tree. Also any other stories or photos that your aunt shares with you would be most welcome. I'm not sure if you can scan the photo, but if so, I would love to have a copy of it.

I've been to Wigan and Orrell in Lancashire where John Conroy and Mary Lynch met and were married. We went to St James church in Orrell and quickly found the graves of John and Mary there. I'm sure Ellen would have been christened in that church too. I've recently figured out from census records that the Black Bull pub must have been in Pemberton and not in Orrell. I don't know if it still exists as a pub but I doubt it. I found that it was on a street called Lord St but that name seems to have changed since that time. I'm trying to locate an old map of the area so that I can see what the name has become. I'm going to drag my husband and kids back up there to do some research one of these days. We live in Bath in the west of England and it's not really all that far away.

I've been trying to get my hands on a photo of Ellen and TAB and their kids that my cousin Diane Brady Losche has (another of TAB's great granddaughters). She lives in Sydney, Australia and probably finds it easy to ignore my requests from so far away.

Hi, TAB was my great grandfather also. I've been doing research again recently and have a few more details about TAB and TAB II. I hope it's not a repeat of what you already know. Most of it was gleaned from the census reports and military records.

TAB was born March c. 1873 in Oswego, NY. He married Ellen Conroy in 1893. It's possible they were married in Jersey City, NJ because TAB II (b 1894) and Francis E (b 1896, my grandfather) were both born in Jersey City. In 1900 they lived at 514 West 29th Street, Manhattan. TAB was a bookkeeper. In 1920 they lived at Bay 10th Street, Brooklyn with his family and Francis E's family too. By this time TAB was an accountant. He seems to have enlisted in the Army in 1904 at the age of 29 years and 10 months. He was in the 11th Cavalry, but it is not clear how long he served, as there are two discharge dates: Sept 2, 1904 and Sept 30th, 1907. Apparently he had light hair, blue eyes and was 5' 3 3/4'' tall - a pretty small guy! I guess you might be able to see that in the photo your aunt gave you. My aunt Dorothy (TAB's grandaughter) was also very small. In the 1930 census he is living at 132 Corning Avenue in Onondega, Syracuse, NY as a lodger and working as a carpenter - maybe due to the Stock Market crash?? The rest of the family lives at 1317 East 4th Street in Brooklyn. Ellen is the head of household and has two sons and her daughter living with her, as well as her daughter-in-law and her son: Chas (Charles), George, Beatrice, George Jr and Grace (George's wife).

I hope this helps shed some light on the family history.

Looking for info on Grace E Conroy who married Ralph Wentworth Dean. They had a son, Ralph Lawrence Dean in Chicago in 1912. In 1920 they were living in Queens NY where Grace worked as a writer for a newspaper and her husband worked as a theatre manager. I can not find Grace or her family after that census.

Grace was born in 1883 in Illinois and her parents were Henry Conroy and Clara Alling. Would like to know where Grace and her family went after the 1920 census and when/where Grace died.

Michael, Martin, Sarah Conroy: Mayo to Chicago

I am looking for information about my grandfather's two brothers and sister who emigrated in early 1900s. They lived in Aughagowla near Westport, Mayo. Their parents were Patrick Conroy and Sarah Walsh.
Michael Conroy born 14Nov1883, arrived in NY 29Apr1908 on ss Campania, Martin born 3Oct1885, arrived NY 4May1911, on ss Coronia. Both brothers were going to Chicago. It is also believed that their younger sister Sarah born 29Aug1893 followed them to Chicago. It's also possible that brothers John (b1887) Austin (b1890) and sister Honor (b1882) may have followed them, although it is thought that later Austin moved to the north of England, and Honor returned to Ireland.

I would be really pleased to hear from anyone who knows anything about these ancestors.
Cheers, J.
I would appreciate hearing about what you find. Ellen Conroy was my great grandmother. My father was Thomas Brady III and my son is TAB V. My Aunt (TAB III's sister) remembers Ellen Conroy and some of her stories about the crossing and the pub in Wigan. She actually just gave me a picture of TAB, the city accountant and 4 of his children: TAB Jr, George, Walter and Helen.

I can be reached at nicholasabrady@gmail.com. Given the length of time between posts, if this email address no longer works, you might also be able to track me down through a legal directory as I am an attorney licensed to practice in Texas and District of Columbia.

I hope to hear from you.
Re: Pittsburgh PA Conroys

Are any of you familiar with Coleman Conroy and his wife Mary? In 1900, they were living at 409 Cabot Way, Pittsburg City with their children Peter, Margaret, Lenora (Nora), Coleman Jr., and Anthony. According to the 1910 census, they also had twin sons, John and Joseph, around 1904.

Nora was my grandmother´s aunt. Nora married William McLachlan (apparently spelled MacLachlan at times too, and I have even seen it as McLachlin), and they had two sons: William (Billy) and John J. (J.J.)McLachlan. Coleman Conroy Sr. was from Ireland and came over to the U.S. in 1880. William and Nora McLachlan lived in Coraopolis, Allegheny County, PA, but we then lost track of them. My 87-year-old grandmother, Janet McLachlan Simpson, would love to find her cousins Billy and J.J. If anybody has any leads for me, I would sure appreciate it. Oh yeah, in the 1930 census, Nora´s sister Margaret, her brother Joseph, and an Aunt Nora McCullough were living with Nora and her family. My email address is russdlentz@aol.com.
Thanks,
Russ Lentz
