The LDS has the Philadelphia marriage index from 1885 onward on their site. It lists last names and year of marriage with index number. By cross-referencing you can determine who married whom and send off to the City of Philly for a copy or record.

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

My grandmother shared with me that Annie Kelley emigrated to the United States alone in order to avoid an arranged marriage. From what my grandmother remembers, Luke and Annie had a very happy marriage and enjoyed entertaining. I've heard bits and pieces about some of the other people you mention and wanted to thank you for putting it together in this way.
I hope your part of the family is happy and healty!
A.

Desperately looking for our missing gg-Aunt Brigid/Margaret (Gannon) CONBOY. Given first name is Brigid, but was called "Margaret" once arrived in Philadelphia about late 1890s or early 1900s. Her nephew's WWI draft registration card record shows in "nearest relative" that she likely married a CONBOY, and family writings state that she had at least one daughter, whom she also named "Margaret". (Daughter Margaret might have married a LEINHAUSER in Philadelphia.)

Brigid/Margaret, born in the 1860s in Mayo, Ireland, had a brother Austin Joseph Gannon (1871-1941, married to a Heneghan/Hannigan) as well as several sisters who also came to Philadelphia.

Do any Pennsylvania (Philadelphia, most likely) CONBOY descendants have a record of one of their ancestors being a Brigid/Margaret GANNON??? We have not located any of this gg-aunt's descendants but have a strong foothold on her siblings'. M.

I am a descendant of John Benedict Conboy (1866-1917) of Roosky, Ireland. His father according to the Mormon Website was George Conboy. I am too trying to link our Conboy member to the Conboys listed on the Griffiths page. John emmigrated from Ireland in 1888 to Manhatten, NY and married Veronica Hogan. John owned JB Trucking and Warehousing. The Conboy's according to family members were Irish Catholics that owned land donated from the King of Spain to Ireland and given to the Earls of Leitrim as return of favors. The family rode horses at night chasing people off their land.

Any insight is truly appreciated
James Conboy was from Sligo, Ireland. There is rumour that he first went to the USA and then moved to Toronto, Ontario approx. late 1860's. Married Sarah Smith, from Ireland, in Toronto in 1869. He was a market gardner and two of his sons became doctors -- Fred J Conboy, dentist, and later Mayor of Toronto in 1940 -1944. The other brother was Dr. Richard Smith Conboy, a well respected physician in Toronto. Anyone know of this family?

My wife is descended from New York City Conboys. Here's what I have: Michael and Delia Conboy, her maiden name unknown, were born in Ireland, county unknown, in the 1830s or 1840s. Their son, Peter P. Conboy was born in the US in 1861. He married Lillian Moore presumably prior to 1885 in NY. They and their children lived in NY and then moved out to Valley Stream Long Island. Lillian lived into the 1930s. Their children Henry, Peter, Lillian, Helen and Estella. Lillian was my wife's grandmother, who died in 1955. Estella married William Buchler. Any connections or knowledge of Michael and Delia's home county in Ireland? Thanks in advan ce for any help.
--steve trincanati

You're welcome. I hope you can get his certificate as it should give his address then you will know exactly where his parents were living.

I know what you mean about some of the Irish Births not being registered. My Mum wasn't either (1916 Dublin City) or her Mother's sister Martha 1884. Luckily we have their baptism certificates.

I also found 2 of my Gran's (Brady) siblings on the IGI records on the LDS website, got copies of those and discovered that one was born in Coolmine Co Dublin and the other in Rathmines, Co. Dublin.

Have you searched on there too by entering just the parents names, and Ireland to see if anything else comes up?

Thank you for your reply. I have downloaded the application and will mail it. I have just received his naturalization records which confirm his birthdate. I just hope his parents registered his birth. For some reason, my grandmother's parents never registered her birth and there is no cert for her. I also could not obtain baptismal records for her from County Mayo.
Thank you again.
As you have your Grandfather's DOB you should be able to get his birth certificate from Ireland. You can apply by post and print off the application form from their websites. One for Northern Ireland and one for Southern Ireland. See below:

NORTHERN IRELAND GRO:

http://www.groni.gov.uk/index.htm

The Beginnings of Registration

In 1845 legislation came into force which provided for the registration of civil marriages in Ireland and for the regulation of all non Roman Catholic marriages. It also created the Office of the Registrar General who remains to this day responsible for the collation and custody of all birth, death and marriage records.

Further legislation, which became operative in 1864, provided for the inclusion of Roman Catholic marriages, together with birth and deaths. A comprehensive registration system was now in place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
SOUTHERN IRELAND (Eire) GRO:
http://www.groireland.ie/
Our records of marriages other than Roman Catholic marriages date back to 1st April 1845 . Records of Births, Deaths and Roman Catholic Marriages date back to 1st January 1864
Regards...Teresa
I am looking for information on my grandfather Thomas P. Conboy from Clooneen (Shanly) County Longford. The 1901 Census lists Ellen as the head of household with sons John, Michael, Thomas, and Christy and daughter Kate. I believe that this Thomas is my maternal grandfather. He was born in 1892 left Ireland around 1911, lived in NY and settled in Philadelphia, married Marie Meer from Attymass Parish ,County Mayo. He worked on the railroad here in Pennsylvania and died around 1959. His WWI registration shows county Longford as his place of birth. His brother Michael's registration shows Cloneen, Longford as his birthplace. In the US Thomas and Marie had 4 children, Kathleen, Christopher, Marie and Helena. Any info would be appreciated, especially the name of my Ggrandfather who had died before the 1901 Census.I would like to obtain a birth cert for my grandfather and am not sure where to begin.
Thank you for any help at all.
Briget Conboy's family from Ireland -where?
My Gt Grandfather Michael Brady married Briget Conboy in the RC Chapel at Rathmines in Co. Dublin in1872. Their ages were registered as 'minor' ..............Her Parents were Patrick Conboy and Maire?Staford. Patrick Conboy was a Coachman. ....... I have no idea where the Conboys came from in Ireland.... although Bridget and Michael lived their life mainly in Dublin City......... Briget was living at 25 Charlemont St, Dublin City, Ireland in 1927 when her husband Michael died. Did Bridget Conboy have any siblings? Does anbody else have Conboy children with the same Parents that would like to contact me...Please?
Regards...Teresa
Mary CONBOY and William HOLMES
I am trying to find information on a "Mary Ann CONBOY and William HOLMES"
Mary Ann CONBOY was born on 11th April 1903 and she married "William Holmes" on 3/3/1922. In St. Patricks Roman Catholic Church, Mohill, Co. Leitrim, Ireland.
Mary Ann Conboy was one of the children born to "John and Julia CONBOY ( nee Gormley)" who lived in Lisdadnan, Mohill. Co. Leitrim
William Holmes was son of Herbert Holmes. William was born in 1895, in Ireland. At the time of the wedding his Father was known to be living in Aldershot. Hampshire, England
The witnesses to the marriage were "George Smullen and Emily Lyons."
Does anyone know if the Holmes were from England or were they emigrants from Ireland?
Did Mary and William stay in Mohill, or did they leave to start their new lives in another country?
There are some Bridget Conboys on LDS site but as I have no idea who her father was or where she came from....I'm stumped. I'm hoping to find something out when the 1901/1911 Dublin City Census comes on line in the next couple of years.
we don't know much about the Conboys, except that Thomas Conboy came from Rosscommon. He must have been born about 1800-1815. There may have been some aunties called Bridget and I know there was one called Honor but I'm not sure if they were Conboys or not. I think these two were nuns, though.
Angela
Hi Angela
Do you have a Bridget Conboy in you family then who was born c.1856?
As from the birth certificates that I have of her children (Bradys) and her husband, Michael Brady's Death certificate, she was in Dublin from 1874-1927.
I know that some of her children came over to London
after they were married from 1928 onwards. Apart from that I have no other information on Bridget.
Other married family names of her daughters (the ones that I know of) are...Pollard, Thorpe, McDorey and Rooney.
Regards...Teresa
