Looking for Rhode Island descendants of John Conboy and Bridget Lyons of Strokestown, Co. Roscommon, Ireland.
Known that a number of sons daughters settled in Rhode Island.
Children: George, Thomas (wife Maria Rogers), John, Luke, Edward, Michael, Patrick, Catherine (husband Dominic Rogers) Anne (husband James Lenehan), Bridget (husband Patrick Carlos) Sarah (husband Charles Reilly) and Maria (husband Thomas Quinn). Some of the sons were policmen in Ireland and supposedly served as policemen in Rhode Island as well. I have recently been contacted concerning Charles Reilly wife Sarah Conboy - St. Theresa's Church in Providence, RI was their parish they are buried in St. Ann's Cemetery in Cranston, RI. What is your fathers name? What was your grandfathers wifes name? My great grandfather had many children from what i have been told.

my grandfather had nine children - he died
in 1928 or 9 - his parents came over from
sligo via wales in the 1850s - he was born
here and became a streecar conductor in nyc -
my grandmother's name was anna douglas burn
- she was scotish and i'm told her family
was here since the 1820s -she died around
1968 at 86years old

John Conboy married Bridget Lyons 17 January 1847 in the Strokestown Roman Catholic Church. Witnesses were Michael Conboy Catherine Lyons. I do not have a date of birth, but I would assume he was at least 18 when married which would place his birth somewhere around 1829 or earlier.

John Conboy, son of the above John Conboy his wife Bridget Lyons, and brother to my ancestor James Conboy, was baptized 22 October 1858 in the Strokestown Roman Catholic parish.

My great grandfather was born 1840 according to his death certificate. Where is strokestown? He would have been 18 yrs. old. Did they wait that long to baptize there children?

Loralee, it is customary to baptize children in the Catholic Church as soon as possible after birth.
It doesn't sound like your John Conboy and my Johns connect. However, John is a very common name there were a number of Conboy families between Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim Roscommon.Good Luck in your search.

Thank you for your reply. My John Conboy came from Sligo. I am at a hult because i have no information on his parents. He was born in 1840 in Ireland. That is all that is on his death certificate. My grandmother told me that he was from Sligo.She has sence died and a cant ask her any information. My brother is suppose to get me all of her pictures and paperwork. Maybe i will find something in it to help.
