Hi Jane do you remmber we corresponded in 2003. We are related through AA Philips Sr. My grandfater is Herbert T Philips. I have recently started to look into family history again. On this web site page I found Mary
Stocker & Rev Joshua Chase http//freepages.geneology.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~challis/Challis%20Family/pafg89.htm. Anne(Anna,Ann)Stocker Chase shows there as one of their children. I can't seem to find any record of her marriage to Nehemiah B. Shorey and their children which would should include Julia Ann Shorey, as you know AA Philips Sr.'s wife. (Does the B. in Nehemiah's name stand for a family name "Breed"?) I can make all the connections back to Acquila but here is where I get lost. Also there ia a major mistake in listing John Chase marrying Rebbecca Folansbree. According to 2 sources that I will send you later his wife was Elizabeth Bingley (1st) and then Lydia Challis (2nd). All records show Thomas Chase as marrying Rebecca Folansbree! It is the only way the rest of the our tree makes sense, that is up to Anna Stocker Chase & Nehemiah B Shorey. Everything else I have reference for. If we can verify that Julia Ann Shorey was their daughter I will have the tree complete back to Aquila with references to prove the connection! Anne
I also have a Harvey Chase from NH. I have noticed that Harvey was a very popular name with the Chase's. They seem to have used the surnames of family as given names. I would like to know more about the Harvey's and how they fit in??

His father was Harvey Chase, and grandfather was Henry Chase. This went back up to Wiseman Chase. I would like to hear from any of the other decendants of the family tree. I would like to know how Salmon and Samuel P. Chase fit in the family tree. Thanks!

Hi Colin
Thank you so much for that information. It has been really hard to find info but I shall keep trying. I have a three month old son and I have named him "Chase", so it would be nice if I could find more out. I had heard that James' mother was cherokee, which would be really cool. And yes I too am piebald! My Grandfather (Sam Hollis) looked like he might have native american indian in him as did many of his brothers. Anyway, thank you again.
Valli

Hi again. Like you I have also heard of the American Indian influence. Its no suprise because our family seem to have an open mind when it comes to national identity. My dad called us a pieball family. Meaning, many cultures one family. Pretty cool especially when our kids are marrying outside their own cultural and national identities. I remember reading about an American High Court judge who was a Chase. He fought for the freedom of black slaves. So its pretty cool that our family had that attitude.
I only traced my roots back to James Alvin and St Lucia. However, there were thousands of Chases in America and Britain still to be researched, but I left it at that. I found my origins go back to France, then to England, America and finally New Zealand. I must say I am doing a book on my immediate family.I know other cousins who were kids of my dads brothers of sisters. Henare (Harry) Chase my grandfather had six wives and 56 kids. So you can imagine the long process of putting everything in perspective. I think I can answer some of your questions because I do have a the generations of my grandfather to my gggggreat grandfather James Alvin. I wrote down their wives names, but I have to find the work I did 10 years ago at Poly and Uni on the Chase Whakapapa. So if I find it I will send the names. By memory I think her first name was Caroline. Take care and keep on looking. colin chase

Salmon P. was the son of Ithamar Chase. He and his siblings were raised in part by the Bishop of OH (?). He was a descendant of Aquila Chase, Ens. Chase, Samuel Chase and Ithamar Chase. I believe I am descended of one of Ithamar Chase's children. They were carpetbaggers and landed in Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Alabama and Virginia. The 1880 census for Missouri (not destroyed in the great fire)lists a Charles Bradford Chase and head of household; wife Libby Ann Chase, sons Leo Dudley Chase, William Chase, Fannie Chase (listed in census as a son - her nickname was "Frankie," Grace Chase and Pearl Chase, who were twins. Also listed in the census is Joseph Chase, who is listed as the father of Charles Bradford. Does any of this mean anything to anyone? My grandmother was Pearl Chase who left the very heart of the Federal government to marry a man who supported the Confederate movement in Franklin, VA.

I don't know if you have found any additional info or not, but I would be interested if you did. I am looking for as close to an exact date as possible on when they were married. I found in a family reunion invite that John and Priscilla were married in 1837. That is all the info I have. I am a descendant of Amos, the son who traveled with John to Utah.

Thanks!

Chase of Massachusetts

My Great Grandfather was a Leon Wilson Chase born Nov 21, 1884 in New Bedford Massachusetts. His mother's name was Hannah Mariah (surname unknown), and his father was either Wilson or Harry Chase, I am thinking Wilson. I have been told that his father was a Seaman and was lost at sea not long after Leon was born. If anyone has any information for me I would really appreciate it. My grandmother is his illegitimate child, so she does not have a lot of information to help me, but we are both very curious. Thanks, Jillian

Interesting information. Not sure how or if the Oliver you cite is related to the Oliver (b 1733)who married Hannah Wood. This Oliver was the son of Oliver (b. 1700) who married Priscilla Round. The 1733 Oliver had 8 children b. in Swansea, none named Johnathan. Many of this family moved to E. Killingly and resided there for many years, but most likely as mill hands and to the best of my knowledge none of these Chases were Quakers.
I'm still trying to identify the maided name of Phebe who married Oliver (b.1761); both are buried in the Chase cemetery in East Killingly.

Hi Dawn,
I am related to Nathan & Mariah Chase of Athens Co, Ohio by their daughter, Victoria M. who married Silas H. Thomas. Nathan's first wife was Phebe, she died between 1853-54, Nathan & Mariah were married in 1858, he died in 1867 or so.
I think Nathan & Phebe had 2 more daughters, Hannah was a daughter, age 21 with them on 1850 census in Trimble Twn. Also a Diantha Chase has come into the picture as a daughter, almost 99% sure. She was born in 1815 or so, she married Alexander McAboy in Meigs Co, Ohio.
Do you know anything about this family?
Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Sharon Durham

I am curious as to why you mentioned Deering, New Hampshire ?? Do you own this Chase family bible ? When exactly did Edward Chase live in Deering ?As far as I remember there is no library in Deering. There is not much of any public buildings in Deering. My maternal grandfather was minister of the Deering church for many years. Rev. Stanley Jordan Keach married my grandmother, Lola Rawson --- and it is my grandmother's side that have Chase. My Great Grandmother was Grace Vivian Chase and was born on Leap Day in 1888. (I have her birth certificate to prove it).

Now some overly religious folk may condemn me for saying this, but I am accustomed to dodging slings and arrows.

Grace V. Chase had an aura of myst , that is to say that she was "gifted" ... mystical. No, she did not practice magic --- as far as I know anyway. Living in a "church" family I have become aware that "those that are called" share a kinship with "those that have been touched" and "the gifted".

Back to Aquila Chase ... I believe that I saw more than one Chase family book when I volunteered at the New Hampshire Historical Library --- WHICH IS IN CONCORD, N.H. However, I do not remember seeing any family bibles and i do not remember my grandmother, Lola Rawson Keach mentioning any family bible that her mother -- Grace Vivianne Chase Rawson may have had ... or even knew about.

What I DO remember, is "aunt Wyla" (Rawson) mentioning that she had researched our family and that we go back to King Richard (the Lion Heart) ... and that our "progenitor" was CROMWELL Chase. Unfortunately, I did not get the chance to look at her work before she died and her brother claims that there is no book.
