John Darwin Chase

I am a descendant of John Darwin Chase (b.1815, d.1902, son of Abner Chase and Amy Scott) and his first wife, Priscilla McHenry. According to my information, Priscilla and an infant son did not come to Utah with John and the Mormon pioneers. I would like any information anyone might have about her and this child. Also, there is a Darwin Chase who is mentioned in several prominent records in LDS Church history during the Missouri period. Some sources say that this is John Darwin Chase. However, my records show that my grandfather, John Darwin Chase, was baptized into the LDS Church in New York after the Missouri period and that he came directly to Nauvoo. I would appreciate any information that anyone could share with me. Thank you. Camille Dowler

Where were your Chases origionally from ? My Grandfather was born in 1865 in Ontario Canida and he had a younger brother named John. I do not think we are the same family but you mentioned there were several John Chases in the L D S records. My family came from Canada in covered wagons in late 1860-early 1870.s.They setteled in Brookfield , Missouri. Do you have any info. on them ? Grandfathers name was William E> Chase and his Father was also William E. Chase. Great Grandfather was married to Margaret Ann Harrison. Would appreciate hearing from you. I to am a decendent of John Darwin Chase and Priscilla Ann McHenry. I show that they were married on the plains. (No Date) But, as you can see below this don't seem to make sense because of the birth date of Amos. I show one child, a son, Amos Chase born in Nauvoo, Illinios 17 Sep. 1841. I show another son born to them about 1843. Amos would be my 2nd great grandfather. The record I have show John Darwin with wife #2, Almira Higgins, married 17 Sep 1846 and wife #3, Elizebeth Jane Tuttle, married about 1853. Elizabeth Jane Tuttle was the mother of John Darwin Chase's daughter-in-law, (Amos's Wife) I show Pricilla McHenry born 31 Jul 1818, died about 1863.

I dont know if you have found any of the information you needed on the son of John Darwin Chase but what I have is his second sons name is James Chase, the date of birth is 09/06/1843 in Nauvoo Illinois. She started on the trip to Salt Lake but returned to Nauvoo with James, I read somewhere that he later made the trip to Salt Lake. The son who travled with John Darwin was Amos. He married Almira Higgins on the trip to Salt Lake and left Amos with her while he served in the mormon battalion. (2nd company I think). He later also married Elizabeth Jane Tuttle. I hope this helps. I am a descendant of Amos.

I don't know if you have found any additional info or not, but I would be interested if you did. I am looking for as close to an exact date as possible on when they were married. I found in a family reunion invite that John and Priscilla were married in 1837. That is all the info I have. I am a descendant of Amos, the son who traveled with John to Utah.

Thanks!
