Do you have a Charles Portland Chase. His name appeared on my ggreat grandfathers death certificate as his father (which was a suprise to us since our surname is Lindsay) The funny thing is we are in Ohio back to mid 1800's, The names SPC Lindsay, Chase Lindsay, & Charles Portland Lindsay appear. Might be a connection to Salmon Portland Chase. My great aunt who is 74 said she remembered something about a govenor or senator of Ohio connection. Any ideas or info? Thanks Sandy Lindsay

My gr-gr-grandfather was Solomon Portland Chase (Lindsay) Family rumor is that he was the illig. offspring of the gov. of OH. We think maybe Lindsays adopted him or something. I am dead in my tracks with this relative. I read a book that stated SPC as having an EYE for the ladies. We are in Columbus OH & have been back to his birth of 1861. Any ideas, Maybe a book with info or maybe we have similar given names in our lines. Hope someone can help. His death certif. states parents "unknown" by his wife. No birth certif avail. His sons death certif. lists his father as Solomon P Chase. Thanks Sandy

Do you have the line for Dudley Chase Brown who my grandparents always said was related to Salmon P. Chase? He married Angenette Peck in 1860 but I have no other information about him, other than my mother (85 yr.) said that we had relatives in New Hampshire.
Thank you,
Pat

Salmon P. was the son of Ithamar Chase. He and his siblings were raised in part by the Bishop of OH (?). He was a descendant of Aquila Chase, Ens. Chase, Samuel Chase and Ithamar Chase. I believe I am descended of one of Ithamar Chase's children. They were carpetbaggers and landed in Indiana, Ohio, Missouri, Alabama and Virginia. The 1880 census for Missouri (not destroyed in the great fire)lists a Charles Bradford Chase and head of household; wife Libby Ann Chase, sons Leo Dudley Chase, William Chase, Fannie Chase (listed in census as a son - her nickname was "Frankie," Grace Chase and Pearl Chase, who were twins. Also listed in the census is Joseph Chase, who is listed as the father of Charles Bradford. Does any of this mean anything to anyone? My grandmother was Pearl Chase who left the very heart of the Federal government to marry a man who supported the Confederate movement in Franklin, VA.
