I am so sorry that I haven't gotten back to you before now. I have moved and have had a hard time getting everything back in my computer. I really want to know about the Charette's because they were my mother's family. She passed away in 1958 and I don't know anything about them. Thank you for any information you can give me.

Hello my name is Heather. I'm taking a geneology class right now and I'm researching my mom's side of the family. She is a Charette. My grandmother and grandfather are Ida and Gerard Charette. They live in portage, Maine. My grandfather's parents names are Adelard and Catherine Charette. I was also able to find out that Adelard's father was Henry Charettte, but I'm having some problems going any further. I'm stuck here because I found two Thomases and I'm not positive on which one is Henry's father. Any help would be wonderful. Thank you!

I have 2 old family pictures from just over 100 years ago, from 2 branches of Charette families in the Gatineau, Québec area. While I have some information, most of what I have are questions.

First picture contains Adolphe-Delphis Charette, his second wife, Rosalie Gagnon, and a mix of children.

The page is here:
http://charette.no-ip.com:1234/Charette/img/b/2/b24368d42436...
Direct link to the image here:
http://charette.no-ip.com:1234/Charette/images/b/2/b24368d42...

The 2nd family picture I have is Dina Charette, daughter of Thomas Nathalie Trudel, with what I assume is some of her siblings. The page is here:
http://charette.no-ip.com:1234/Charette/img/b/2/b243391feff3...
Direct link to the image here:
http://charette.no-ip.com:1234/Charette/images/b/2/b243391fe...

If anyone is from either of those branches, please reply or get in touch with me as I'd love to better identify the people in these pictures.

Stéphane Charette, stephanecharette@gmail.com

Hello Cassie........we are a huge family with various spellings of the name Charette. I have Charette's in my lineage but I am a Charest as the name changed to become more Americanized. My family (as did most) started out in Quebec, Canada and moved on down to the States. There is also an Association for the Charette-Charest Family. They would be happy to help you! Email me directly at lindamcdowell3@msn.com and I will forward your note to our genealogist! Happy Journey, Linda

Hello all and to cyoung.....if your husband Thomas is a decendant of Jean then he and I are related....but I must be missing some info in my tree as I don't find any Thomases within the last few generations. I'd like to share info, if you'd like to email me at lindamcdowell3@msn.com. Also I have an elusive grandfather and great grandfather...grandfather's name was Joseph Arthur Rene Charette, changed later to Rene Joseph Charest, b.18 Jun 1913 in Salem, Ma, mar. Mary Sico. He apparently left his wife and child and moved to NY, Corona area, I believe. I was told he committed suicide there in 1944. But I cannot find any records of his death. He had a sister named Alice. My great grandfather was born Joseph Napoleon Charette, later changed to Napoleon Charest, b.1887 in Quebec, mar. Alphonsine Morin in Salem,MA , left her and I was told he returned to Quebec. No records on him either. If anyone has any info on either or both please reply!
Thanks for all your help!
I finally found the link. Ten generations back Rene's paternal ancestor and Tom's paternal ancestor were brothers sharing the same father. In regards to Arthur, Sophie and Thomas Charette had a son Arthur who was the brother to Tom's great grandfather Leonard. So, Tom from NY, if you have any other information about your Arthur, such as birthdate, spouse's name, maybe I could help you..

Hello
My Grandmother's maiden name was Melvina Charette.

Her father was Cyprien Charette N: 15 march 1862 ,POB: Hemmingford ,QC . Son of FX Choret and Roslie Roy.

Her mother was Rose Delima Richard N:18 OCT 1861, POB Hemmingford ,QC Daughter of Narcisse Richard and Sophie Rougier.

I believe she was born in Hemmingford QC but I have no birth documents on this.

When she was young her father Cyprien Charette died. Her mother Rose delima(Richard) remaried to Alfred Remmilard Feb 1892 Hemmingford QC..She died shortly after. Family tradition is that my grandmother then went to live with her Grandfather. I never knew if that meant paternal(Charette) or maternal (Richard)however I have always suspected it was her paternal grandfather for a couple of reasons. My grandmother married Louis LaMountain of Altona NY which as I'm sure you know is very close to Ellenburg ..they did not travel far in those days to find spouses....and the numerous Charettes in the Ellenburg NY area.

Feel free to contact me if you wish............ernest_lamountain@yahoo.com..........
regards
Ernie LaMountain

Please excuse me if you tried this already but:

About the time your line disappears in Canada, try the same first name and change the last name to Choret. also try to change the English to French first names. I have had to "mix and match" like this and found some good links to many many more generations. (ie John Charette : Jean Charette : Jean Choret : John Choret could well all be the same person depending on who is keeping the records)

Yes, this branch was/is VERY prolific and quit longevity. We keep getting back to the same areas in Canada and there we stall. Cannot find birth/baptism of August ~1861 or Esther ~1865. Any thoughts.....???

I'm not sure of which Thomas you are speaking. There are quite a few Thomases in the Charette/Choret/Chaure line. I'm no authority by any means, and there are much more informed people to be asking, but you definitely need to give more than just a first name for me to know of which Thomas you speak. It also seems that there is more than one Mathieu from what I've seen. I've seen a Mathieu and a Robert Mathieu, but I'm am not positive that they are even two separate people. Censuses may call the same person by two or more different names on different year's censuses, so it can be quite confusing. Also, quite often an ancestor's baptismal name is different from their given name. Camile, Rene's great grandfather always claimed his name was just Camile Charette,(only one L) with no middle name, but on his baptismal record it showed his name was Joseph Camille Charette (Joseph being his first name and Camille,(with 2 L's) his middle. I found his name listed on different censuses as Camile, Carmile, Cammel, so you see it's not easy tracking down these Charette's (smile) I have seen one Charette ancestor's last name listed as Charette, Choret, Charest, Sharett, Shaurette, and God knows what else on different year censuses, military records, and birth and marriage records. I guess it was however the information taker thought it was spelled. The only way I knew it was the same person was through dates of birth, wife's name, parents names, or children's names and ages.

Thank you, you have been a big help! Between the info you have provided, and that of my friend, along with the info I already have, I now have both Rene's and Tom's direct lines back to Mathieu and then Thomas Chaure! With the info you have given I may very well be able to help someone else who has asked for help with her family tree. Thanks so much!

Lynda:

Thank you for your response! The line from Maria down to your husband would be GREAT! I only have Maria and her husband Leo Sharrow and nothing further on that line.

As for the rest of the line, yes, I would love that too. I would like to compare notes with you. Can you accept GEDCOM? if so, let me know. Yes, I have heard of the Amerindian connection with the family and I'll look and see what I have in my notes. I am looking forward to hearing from you. My e-mail is gothisson@verizon.net.

Respectfully,
Tony
